Redfield says that we should now start to see COVID deaths drop nationwide.

https://www.foxnews.com/health/coronavir...c-director

“Redfield attributed the projected drop to people following mitigation steps to stop the spread of novel coronavirus, including adhering to social distancing measures, wearing face masks, shutting down bars, limiting dining and controlling crowd gatherings.

Redfield said it takes time for the numbers to reflect these efforts to stop the spread of the virus. "It is important to understand these interventions are going to have a lag, that lag is going to be three to four weeks," Redfield said in the JAMA interview.”

I didn’t realize it had been only a few weeks since we implemented shutdown measures, but OK.

Redfield also emphasized the need to get flu shots. This winter will be unbearable if we have to deal with “Flovid”. Please get your flu shot. I don’t regularly get one, but I am getting one this year.
Connecticut will be opening schools after meeting coronavirus metrics.

“Connecticut is currently trending at a 0.8% positivity rate for Covid-19 and is well within the self-imposed metrics to reopen schools in two weeks, Gov. Ned Lamont said Thursday.

In a news conference, Lamont said the seven-day average per 100,000 people is the key metric he is using to evaluate safely reopening schools. As of Thursday, that statewide percentage stood at 2.1 new cases per 100,000 population.”

Not sure I buy his theory. Granted, it is anecdotal, but I see people being less compliant over time, not more.

Massachusetts is now mandating flu shots for school.

I occasionally get a flu shot, if it's convenient. But, I absolutely loathe the government mandating a shot that it 60ish% effective.
Good luck with this.

I didn't vote for this clown. He can mandate it for his family, he ain't mandating it for mine.

George Orwell was trying to warn us -- not inspire us. Our state leaders are a complete embarrassment.

Nevertheless, and despite the authoritarian overreach, I plan to be first in line for the vaccine. And once injected, I will happily burn every one of my masks.

I don’t think the Commissioner of Health is an elected position. So I’m pretty sure I didn’t vote for him either. Even though I think it would have a better effect with more people vaccinated, I am not in favor of mandating it. Neither COVID nor the flu shot. They need to sell the benefits vs. the risks. The article quoted a poll that said one in three people will not get the vaccine. That’s actually down from the last poll I saw that said 50%. Pence says we will have a vaccine by the end of the year. I’d be a little leary of a vaccine developed that quickly. I’m sure other people are too. If they can show how the vaccine was developed and provide testing that testifies to its safety and efficacy, then more people will get it.
Once they get a Covid vaccine, most of us will be so far down the line. It will be healthcare workers, first responders, military, elderly, teachers, students, athletes, trash collectors, restaurants servers, then us at the back of the 330 million line.

I know it’s not an elected position. That was part of my point. I won’t allow some appointed bureaucrat of a government agency tell me what vaccinations I’ll be required to get.

Yes. Not quite normalcy but much more so than what we have. Maybe you could call it a sense of normalcy? It looks like what they did certainly worked for them for the most part (they failed with LTCs, as did we). And they have universal health care and paid sick leave. But no college football. Take that Sweden!

Yeah, I agree. I've never been in favor of a mandated vaccine, unless it really is a plague like event where 1 in 3 are dying. I'll get a vaccine when it's available though. But you're right that the messaging is important. From what I understand regarding the speed of the development is that all the trials are being conducted as normal. The government is basically underwriting any losses though which makes the process faster then normal. Usually companies want to make sure it's viable and marketable before each next step so they don't sink money into a loser. With that risk gone then they will move from one step to the next but nothing is being shortcutted as far as the trial requirements or approval to make sure it's safe and effective. Effective is defined as around 50% effective, hopefully we get a little better than that.
I'll consider getting the vaccine after it has been around for a year or so.

I don't know how I feel about the mandate but it would be nice if there weren't people that thought vaccines caused autism and whatever else the anti-vaxers make up. The country would be a lot safer if people got vaccines. We have diseases that the world irraticated for a reason that are started to sprout back up because "vaccines cause autism."
If you're not sick, there is no need to get tested.

If you have been in close contact (within 6 feet) of a person with a COVID-19 infection for at least 15 minutes but do not have symptoms:
You do not necessarily need a test unless you are a vulnerable individual or your health care provider
You should monitor yourself for symptoms. If you develop symptoms, you should evaluate yourself under the considerations set forth above.
You should strictly adhere to CDC mitigation protocols, especially if you are interacting with a vulnerable individual. You should adhere to CDC guidelines to protect vulnerable individuals with whom you live.

If you do not have COVID-19 symptoms and have not been in close contact with someone known to have a COVID-19 infection:
You do not need a test.
A negative test does not mean you will not contract an infection at a later time.

https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-nco...rview.html
It would seem to me, that if the CDC is not recommending testing unless you are symptomatic, there is good reason to believe you're not a big threat to the community. I also find it interesting that they say you should "adhere strictly to the protocols" but then emphasize "especially if you are interacting with a vulnerable individual." Sounds to me like perhaps we could get rid of these stupid protocols for most of our regular day-to-day activities.
It would seem so.
