We obviously don't but we still have around 750 people a day currently dying from COVID (that annualizes to about 273K deaths/year). On an average year about 2.8M people die in the US. So if anyone is suggesting that something that causes a 9.75% increase in total deaths whether driverless cars or pandemics is acceptable then I'm going to have to disagree.

Can we just take away the keys from the > 80 generation, who are responsible for roughly 90% of the increased rate?

LOL. In some cases both literally and figuratively. Unfortunately it seems easier said than done.

LOL. I was yelled at for standing and cheering at an ODU FB game by some one in their 50/60's and you have the audacity to take the keys away from >80 folk. I guarantee you that your name will be brought up at the county kitchen buffet. 05-mafia and honestly not every > 80 person is responsible for that rate. I saw somewhere today an Appy State kid died and i can't imagine what that family has to deal with. Really sad.
Good luck taking the keys away from an independent 80 year old man that fought in Korea over this. Lol.

What worries me is I think there are people who are completely comfortable with this way of life and would take you up on this offer, while wanting the government to force this way of life upon you and me, too.

I mean, yeah, Im not really uncomfortable. I have to wear a mask when I go inside...ok. I don't go inside peoples homes that I normally would. Order more curbside pickup than typically eaating in restaurant.
Um....valid points all around.

I’d like to move to start a new thread if that will help the multiple post issue. Bit9? Would that do it? Make a “Covid Part 2” thread?

I’m glad things are going well for you, I truly am. But, you do recognize that not everyone is ok with this, right? And, their opinion (which I happen to share) is no less valid than yours.

For example, my wife and I have to take turns watching our daughter play her volleyball matches because the gyms are only allowing 50 people in. With players and coaches, that leaves one parent to be able to watch the match. On one hand, maybe it’s not a big deal, but to me, it is. My kids are only young for.a short period of time, and it bothers me greatly that I can’t be there for every game.

Here’s the interesting thing to me, I’m not even convinced the gym understands the rules they are supposed to be following. I thought we’re allowed gatherings of up to 250. But, maybe the gym doesn’t feel like it could create social distance with that many. But, if masks work, I thought we don’t have to have social distancing? The messaging from the leaders (Fauci, CDC, Trump, Northam, all of them) sucks.
The wife just told me POTUS and FLOTUS tested positive. Asymptomatic at this point.

I get it. But, your viewpoint on how this has affected you makes a difference on how bad you believe your life is at the moment.

Like as a parent, I know it sucks to miss live game action. We take videos and watch later as a family. Is it ideal....absolutely not. Does it suck? Absolutley. Is it the end of the world, no.

This is the best you've got? Please point me to some scientific evidence that I as a healthy individual, should not be allowed to attend my daughter's games.

Some citizens are more equal than others. It's science.

Not to be crass, and not to derail this into politics, but it is 2020. What happens if Trump dies and millions of ballots have already been cast? It would be one crazy situation.

That's easy. Unless you took a test immediately before the match you can not prove or even assume that you are a healthy individual. Plenty of scientific evidence showing presymptomatic carriers are known to be big spreaders.

Here we get into the argument of how you restrict healthy people on the assumption that they could be sick. This has never been done in the history of our nation. It feels a lot like arresting people who you think might cause a crime.

I just read an article about it but can't find it. It's messy. The RNC would hold an emergency convention to name a replacement candidate but the states would have to each allow the ballots cast for Trump to count or something. A shitshow to say the least.

Restrictions have never been put on healthy people in the history of our nation? Really? No restrictions at all? I'm old enough to remember a time when you could take the same plate you just ate off of back to a salad bar. As a perfectly healthy person that should be my right. I'm not old enough to remember the Spanish flu epidemic but a lot of the same restriction were in place.

The Spanish Flu had a death rate that is 10x that of COVID.

The NYT reported early this morning that they were indeed symptomatic.

But given that the subject has spent the past 3 3/4 years discrediting everything that has come out of there, who knows?
