Each year tens of thousands of people die in car accidents. If we dropped the speed limit to 15 mph, I'll bet that number could be cut in half. I'm no doctor but from what I've read the vaccine trails have produced promising results. If there is no vaccine then I guess it will be herd immunity the old fashion way, many more people will die but those that survive will gain some sort of immunity. Even if you catch it twice it would likely be milder and eventually it would be like the seasonal flu. And yes the treatments will get better. We certainly have to accept risks but if 200K+ people died from car accidents in 9 months you can be damn sure there would be changes made.
I have a friend who works for a Top 5 Big Pharma here in VA. According to him, there will be a vaccine sometime next year. These are a few of his posts on another board. I edited a few names to protect anonymity.

5. It will take at least 2 vaccines per person. If 50% of the US gets the vaccine he considers that a major victory. But that's not herd immunity of course.
6. He did not have a good take yet on if the vaccines would last a long time or a short time, meaning is this like a measles vaccine (once in a life) or a flu vaccine (annual)?

I'm politically mercenary, but a humanist at heart. I've had several respiratory illnesses in my time, one somewhat serious. I wouldn't wish that kind of suffering on anyone for any reason. For the sake of the power and importance of his office, I wish him well.
