If you're getting top 150 recruits there is cheating. That is the game that everyone does to get that level of recruits. The AAU circuit is corrupt, shoe companies are corrupt, coaches, etc. It would be dumb for a high level recruit not to take money when there is a bidding war.

You might want to rethink that. We have 3 Top 150s so far. Lomax lived with Penny for years, Harris has wanted to play for Memphis since he was a little kid, and Jones called us and asked for a visit, out of the blue, right after he was released from A&M, who wanted him gone.

Plus, with the FBI sting ongoing, that has to have a big impact on business as usual. And I know for sure that Penny was told to do it all above board, b/c we still have P5 aspirations.

Pretty sure A&M released Jones because he wasn't going to qualify...

where are you getting these rumors from??? ... it makes zero sense to sign at a college in april if you aren't going to qualify
i also googled..there is nothing about it on the internet, i even checked the a&m's forum they are mad he decommitted and memntion nothing about qualifiying

you arent a troll so you must be getting tis from somewhere

I saw it mentioned on a UC board, but I misspoke. It was said that he couldn't get past admissions at A&M, not that he couldn't qualify. But regardless, I know Cronin sniffed around for a bit back in the fall but passed due to character concerns..

I'm literally repeating what I've read on the kid. I couldn't care less to be honest. The league does need more talent so hopefully he develops into a great player.

A&M had a lot of characer issues last season to a point if they hadn't made a deep run like they did the coach might have lost his job.
Jones is seen as a character issue. He's not going to commit a crime but might violate a team rule or two during his time lol. A&M simply didn't want to add anymore issues on top of their situation so they where fully supportive on finding him a place to land.

Because while it’s a juicy conspiracy theory, it’s just not true. Multiple direct sources from parents of recruits said Tubby and staff were not contacting and recruiting as hard as other staffs. His own son confirmed it in an interview saying their philosophy was to let a recruit know they are wanted and if they don’t commit after that, the staff moves on. They didn’t feel the need to continuously recruit because the kid should want to play for Tubby and they shouldn’t have to beg.

Ask SMU folks, I'm in position to know, not interviews w/players parents. Everyone in the industry, who recruits for a living, knows Penny poisoned the water. Tubby did spend much time on these kids cause they weren't coming bc of Penny.

Funny Penny wanted to hire Larry Brown and then took two PGs 5'10 and under. LB would have laughed at Penny
Memphis is my pick to win the 6’ and under league next season.

nic moore was 5'9, your best player under brown.

his most iconinc player was an undersized point guard
also noting that lomax is 5'11

While I think Lomax will be good (if not great), I’ve stood next to him and talked to him, and without some kind of lifters in his shoes, there is zero chance he’s over 5’10”.

Agree. I think Lomax is 5'10" and Harris is 5'8". Having said that, I htink peeps are way over-focusing on that aspect. Lomax is a prototypical PG. His height is fine for his role.

As for Harris, that dude can fill it up from anywhere. The only issue would be if both were on the floor together, our D could get posted up, but we could play some zone, as well.

But with SIX good guards on the roster now (those 2, Martin, Brewton, Jones and Hardaway), we have plenty of opportunity for various guard combinations.
It would obviously be in memphis' best interest to redshirt one of them but that probably wont happen

why would they, their best interest is to play both

lomax according to penny is a elite defender..pennny says he always put him on the best offensive player of whoever they are playing (and note they play in elite aau vs 5stars)

harris is considered one of the best scorers in the nation .. he was basically a 3 inch shorter trae young.. you dont get to be a top 100-ish player at 5'8 140lbs without some skill
why would you want to redshirt either?? these are going to be some of the highest rated recruits in the aac if we pretend uconn isnt in the league

harris is a liability of defense, but so was trae young...you just build around it

I think the point was it's hard to build around when presumably one of your next best players in this same class is also under 6' that you would like to play beside him. Even if he is a great defender that's a match up most schools will look to exploit and have 6-5 types they can put at SG one of them will have to guard. If they can't play together I don't really see the concept of why you sign them especially in the same class because one will likely end up on the bench and eventually transfer. They would have to be pretty amazing to overcome the fit issues IMO.

Well i would want to redshirt one to gain a fifth year of eligibility. seems fairly obvious01-wingedeagle I just dont see enough minutes to go around for both of them. I would prefer have one play 25-30 minutes a game and redshirt the other, then both play 10-15 each.

Again, i dont think it will happen because it probably isnt in the best interest of harris and lomax- who have nba aspirations. just saying from a memphis perspective.

He is very much in the know. Lots of connections all over in the AAU circuit and various coaching staffs. He can tell you his background, but its impressive. PonyStark knows his stuff. Will have some very hot takes at times, but knows his stuff.

And on Nic Moore, Jank brought him with him from Illinois St. That wasn't LB's doing. LB was never about recruiting small guards and if he did once in a blue moon he would surround them with 6'5+ guards.

FWIW, I think Lomax will be a real solid PG. His style will translate. I am less sure about Harris. Scoring against good 16-17 year old HS PG's (no matter the level) is different than scoring against 19-21 year old college PGs and Wings. The size, speed and physicality differs drastically. Not saying he can't be one of the exceptions, but I am much more skeptical. That's before even discussing who he is going to guard.
