It will be interesting to see who we get in 2019. We’re involved with several highly rated recruits and as pesik astutely noted, we only have so many scholarships. Although I will say you never know if a scholarship might open up the way kids transfer these days.

Wiseman, Watford, Jeffries, Dandridge. Maybe one more.

Chillious complements Dooley's energy
Quote:"This is a league full of guys who are hungry and they play with a chip on their shoulder,” Chillious said of the American, which in addition to UConn has Wichita State, Cincinnati and some others as brand-name programs. “We have to make sure that when we recruit players we want the highest level of player possible, but they have to also understand that this is a league full of guys who go out and play like they ate raw meat and gunpowder before the game. You better be a dog.”

Pirate fans are really expecting something new from this staff.

That's gotta sting some Memphis fans, I imagine, to see WSU listed as one of the name brands and no sign of Memphis anywhere.

So, an assistant coach at ECU disrespected Memphis basketball? Man, I'm going to lose sleep tonight over that one. I guess DJ Jeffries' decommitting from Kentucky today will help me sleep better.

It must've rankled you enough to garner a response.
Did someone say hiring Penny was a bad idea???????

I don't think we get Hurt. I think we get the other 4 + one, though.
For 2019. James Wiseman. DJ Jeffries. Trendon Watford. Plus Malcolm Dandridge and one more. Plus returning Jones, Lomax, Harris, Wingett, Enoh, Boyce, Lance Thomas, Isaiah Maurice.

From Kentucky sports radio:

"But this news does reiterate one thing that I’ve both written and discussed on my podcast throughout the last few weeks: After watching Penny Hardaway on the recruiting circuit the last few weeks, I truly believe that he is going to be a real force going forward on the recruiting trail. Not just with kids from Memphis or his former AAU program, but with many of the best players from all over the country.

But in the short-term? I was blown away by Hardaway’s presence on the recruiting trail these past few weeks. And I truly believe that he could end up as a thorn in the side of the Calipari’s and Coach K’s of the world, if not an outright, equal competitor."

We are now officially under Kentucky fans' skin. Everybody here should be happy about that.

Calipari knows full well the potential for success at Memphis under the right coach.

That is going to be one stacked team! Got a feeling there's going to be some angry, bitter folks posting on here from the Wichita and Houston areas over the next few years. Maybe Orlando too.

TBD Still .. so far what has happened is exactly what everyone knew would happen. He is getting recruits, lots of them from the teams he has been coaching/involved in. He needs to win some games first.

EDIT: Should be clear ... I’m ALL FOR him stealing recruits from UK. Anything to piss off that retarded fan base.

You are making an assumption that Wichita, Houston and UCF wont be good also. That’s not a good assumption .. 2 of those 3 have proven coaches that know how to win no matter the talent gap.

Safe assumption that the Magic won't be good anytime soon.

I agree caution is prudent, but Penny’s performance to date has been exemplary.

I want success for all AAC schools and expect it in particular for Houston, UConn, Cincy, and WSU.

Notice cincy did not make the list. Glad to know that you understand your place in the universe. Just kidding, it is great for the conference to have a strong Memphis/Cincy rivalry.\

why would anyone be bitter??

1) we are a league fighting for respect, memphis becoming elite is great..we are ALL hoping you land those guys..we prefer them at memphis than UK

2) for a team that JUST had a great recruiter and did nothing spectacular with it (pastner) you guys sure seem locked into the idea that simply recruiting well is a guarantee for greatness without ever seeing him coach

a) gregg marshall has made the tournemnt 15 of his 21 years & has a final 4 ..(one of the 6 he did make it he was the nit champion)...his incoming class, with no espn 100 his best overall recruiting class to date

b) before "rebuilding houston" sampson made the ncaa on 13 of his last 14 seasons (including an elite 8 & final 4)..when his teams become good they stay good... note that in sampsons 20+ years of coaching he has 1 lottery pick total and technically it did not count as he was fired before he became the lottery pick (eric gordon at Indiana)..sampons isnt a great recruiter and has always won with less
Yes, I agree with all of you. Good competitive rivalries are fun.

Memphis
UConn
Cincy
Temple
Wichita
Houston

All have varying degrees of tradition. Hell, even Tulsa does and SMU has been good lately. Would love nothing more than to see 3-4 AAC teams consistently ranked and 4-5 getting in the dance every year. If the P5 is going to jack us around in football, lets piss on their NCAA tournament parade.
