huh? i can probably pull up a dozen cases of players rated higher than both of them that redshirted freshman year.

Quote:The reasons outside of Bennett’s rationale starts with a simple one, balancing out the classes.

The next, according to the Virginia head coach, is simple math. Adding those two to the rotation would make minutes tough to come by.

“You could make a case, but again, opportunity to progress playing time wise, there’s so many guys. You can’t play 13 guys.”

Hunter and Huff were both rated significantly higher than these short memphis pg's. happens all the time.

i dont get your point...

uVA coach :we are so deep we dont need them, lets redshirt them

memphis- didnt make the nit, second most talented player transferred out, and next
year will lose over 50% of the roster..so lets red-shirt one of the most touted recruits in our league..so we lose more games in 2018 and are more inexperienced in 2019?

I personally dont think they will be redshirted- have said that 2 or 3 times already.

Assuming antwann jones sees some minutes at the 2(fair assumption), brewton gets his 20-25, and jeremiah martin needs 35 minutes. Where are there minutes remaining for 2 undersized pg's pesik? because i just dont see them. One, absolutely. Two? i dont see it

that's really the only point i'm trying to make.

only reason for bringing up the uva example was because the guy said "Players like Lomax and Harris aren’t getting redshirted". insinuating 4 stars dont get redshirted. which is extremely false. wasnt comparing the memphis situation to uva
"Joe Dooley putting together big time staff at East Carolina.."

jones is definitely playing the 3...thats almost guaranteed to me

also you distributed the minutes the way tubby would have distributed the minutes....
penny has said time and time again alex is his go to guy.....he has been his go to guys since middle school

i can almost guarantee alex will be a starter
brewton isnt guaranteed any kind of minutes penny holds no loyalty to him

this is how i see it happening...
alo/harris rotate at the 1
martin starts at the 2
( i think 2 of the 3 will always be on the court most of the game)

brewton and jones rotate at the 3
davenport and thornton rotate at the 4
parks and maurice rotate at the 5

starters: lomax, martin, jones, davenport and parks... harris and brewton 6th/7th man off the bench

baylor was recruiting harris to be the starting point guard next year..they will only have 1 pg on roster next year (an ivy league transfer)..when lomax commited harris' parent basically said they were leaning towards baylor, and dont want to platoon harris

penny told them something to believe tyler was going to get a lot of pt..he visited them like 6 times in a 1 week span

Must have missed the news of Kyvon Davenport transferring out.

Our top 4 scorers return. Only 3 players had a positive rating on the team(Davenport +13.1, Martin +13.3, and Mike Parks +1.4)....they all return.

Im assuming you were talking about Jamal Johnson as our 2nd best player. Which is wrong and not supported by any statistical measure.

I appreciate the well thought out response. we just see it a little differently. I have a hard time believing whichever of lo/harris isnt as far along in their development wont be reduced to a small bench role. fast forward 4 years when they are both competing for all-conference honors, memphis fans would love to have a 5th year out of one of them. I suppose we'll just have to see how it plays out. I've been wrong before

lets not confuse pt/per with talent..i said most talented...
lets not confuse freshmen year stats with talent potential...

ie fabian white at houston, he had 5pt per for us as a freshmen last year...most people believe he was one of the most talented players on our roster..most predict he will be all aac by his junior year

or galen robinson pg, he will never produce points. 4pts per, his stat sheet looks abysmal, but samspon/anyone who follows houston always state he is one of our best players

We also have a 6'6 top 100 SG coming in as well, so while height may be a slight concern for our other two guards, our whole team is going to be big besides them.

I personally wouldn’t sell Brewton short, arguably the most improved from beginning of season to end last year. Could see him really buying in for his senior year.I bet Penny likes his motor. Penny will make the new guys earn minutes . Ps , Johnson wasn’t close to second best player. Closer to 7th than second
I surmise most AAC schools would be quite satisfied with the likely 2018 -19 Tiger backcourt despite their perceived shortcomings.
UCF fans are now basketball experts. 03-lmfao

So if I wear a Duke shirt I'm more of an expert? As the FBI has clearly shown...comes down to the best cheater anyway. Nobody getting top level recruits has their hands clean. I'm fully ok with playing the game outside the court with Penny. Helps the league.
I wouldn’t try to tell you I know more about your team than you do. When you don’t have all of the details, you end up sounding ridiculous. To the point that we’re digging up examples where a kid redshirted a UVA once upon a time. So maybe at UNC you have a 4* guy that is willing to ride the pine or redshirt, but most kids want to play now. Tyler wants to play. He wouldn’t be coming to Memphis to redshirt nor do I believe he would have gone anywhere else that asked him to do that. If you want to act like an expert, you should at least do your homework.

I don't know which ucf fan you're talking about. I personally think Memphis is going to be good. NCAA tournament team in 2 years.
Corey Evans reporting that Austin Reeves is transferring. Sheeshhh.
WOW! Big loss for Wichita.

Doglando made the comment that it would be in our best interest to redshirt Lomax or Harris. I guess he thinks both will grow 4 or 5 inches over the next year and that we should roll with just 2 guards all next season (Jones may play the 2 some, but I would expect him to play the 3 more)?

Then we get examples of where some guy reshirted at UVA. Go ahead and provide me the percentage of 4* recruits that redshirt in all of college basketball. After that maybe collect the list of 4* guys that have redshirted (non injury related) in the AAC. I’ll wait.
