why would they, their best interest is to play both

lomax according to penny is a elite defender..pennny says he always put him on the best offensive player of whoever they are playing (and note they play in elite aau vs 5stars)

harris is considered one of the best scorers in the nation .. he was basically a 3 inch shorter trae young.. you dont get to be a top 100-ish player at 5'8 140lbs without some skill
why would you want to redshirt either?? these are going to be some of the highest rated recruits in the aac if we pretend uconn isnt in the league

harris is a liability of defense, but so was trae young...you just build around it

Well i would want to redshirt one to gain a fifth year of eligibility. seems fairly obvious01-wingedeagle I just dont see enough minutes to go around for both of them. I would prefer have one play 25-30 minutes a game and redshirt the other, then both play 10-15 each.

Again, i dont think it will happen because it probably isnt in the best interest of harris and lomax- who have nba aspirations. just saying from a memphis perspective.

to counter that...a team full of freshmen dont win titles anymore or even get far in the tourney... every single team that went far in the tournament had multi year starter guard..
there wasnt a star freshman guard, past the elite 8, Trevon Duval is the only one that really had an impact (stark, sexton, young all eliminated)

memphis will have 1 shot to make it work, in 2019...id rather have 2 experienced guards than 1.. 2019 is make or break for the penny coaching legacy
Players like Lomax and Harris aren’t getting redshirted. 0% chance unless somebody gets hurt.

I think the point was it's hard to build around when presumably one of your next best players in this same class is also under 6' that you would like to play beside him. Even if he is a great defender that's a match up most schools will look to exploit and have 6-5 types they can put at SG one of them will have to guard. If they can't play together I don't really see the concept of why you sign them especially in the same class because one will likely end up on the bench and eventually transfer. They would have to be pretty amazing to overcome the fit issues IMO.

but houston starts 3 6'0 pg next to each every game..literally every single team we played talked about how they were going to exploited that ..not a sinlge team did...
and the aac has an endless supply of tall bigs...sdsu guards in the tourney were 6'5 (and bulk)..6'6 (and bulk). and 6'2 with next man off the bench 6'6 (and fast)

or look at Michigan their top defender is 5'11 xavier sampson and he shut everyone down

alot of it has to do with physicality, posting up is more than size its how physical you are..i think lomax will be fine in that respect..

i think they'll be fine considering they will likely be playing with huge bigs their entire stay at Memphis...and if 2019 pans out like planned..they'll have the most dominant big line up in the country ..try posting up one of them and watch the help come and swat it away
James Wiseman's mom said on the radio today that "PENNY is like family" and that the fact that she allowed her son to come to Memphis was because of that fact. She also said that his development under PENNY has been incredible. On a side note her daughter is a student at the university of Memphis now and PENNY has an at home visit this evening COGS02-13-banana04-bow

To be truthful that's not what she said. They came to Memphis because his sister is a student. Now she's a senior. Penny became family . But she did say penny has been good at developing James. But he's 16. He better be developing lol.

huh? i can probably pull up a dozen cases of players rated higher than both of them that redshirted freshman year.

Quote:The reasons outside of Bennett’s rationale starts with a simple one, balancing out the classes.

The next, according to the Virginia head coach, is simple math. Adding those two to the rotation would make minutes tough to come by.

“You could make a case, but again, opportunity to progress playing time wise, there’s so many guys. You can’t play 13 guys.”

Hunter and Huff were both rated significantly higher than these short memphis pg's. happens all the time.

Close enough BROTHER 04-cheers04-cheers04-bow. But actually the family moved to Memphis because of the daughter
, where as allowing Wiseman to move from a great situation to come play for Memphis East is the what I was thinking her "move to Memphis " comment meant
Future Memphis 4 and 5 star guards...

When I heard her say that I thought of that pesky TSSAA issue. If you know what I mean.

Great! There is still 0% chance either will redshirt w/out injury. We need a true PG (Lomax) and another guard who can beat his man off the dribble/pop a 3. Tyler was promised all you can eat minutes at Baylor. There is no way he is getting redshirted.

We only have 2 guards returning from last season. Martin and Brewton who are both shooting guards.

i dont get your point...

uVA coach :we are so deep we dont need them, lets redshirt them

memphis- didnt make the nit, second most talented player transferred out, and next
year will lose over 50% of the roster..so lets red-shirt one of the most touted recruits in our league..so we lose more games in 2018 and are more inexperienced in 2019?

I don't mind small players in general like you said when you build around them. We have had several 6' shooting guards I loved but we always had bigger PG's to help switch and cross match. Also one of those 6' guys Akeem Richmond was 195lb's and built like a little minny tank so he was strong enough not getting backed down in a switch. I don't think any of those guys you mentioned are 5-9, 150lbs. There is the weight component that's also important. I think he clearly needs to get a lot more bulk and stronger, I know he's young but not every player has the genetics to do that.

It's funny you never see any other school in this conference tell another school how much they know about their city, community and how they should manage their players and program. But errbody knows everything about Memphis and how they'd run it and their players. Lol
everyone here making jabs about the height of te memphis recruits reeks of being a hater to me

"haha your 4star top 150 pg recruits are under 6ft.....our juco recruits are 6'2..suck it "

i think harris is a defensive liability from his size but if penny is smart, he will always have the weakest defensive responsibilities

rhode island did great with a less touted, similar sized player to harris.. it can work

Pretty incredible hire if it pans out. This is someone I would have been excited about as our head coach if Dooley didn't work out, forget an assistant.
