I'm probably an idiot for continuing to get my hopes up but I think Evans eventually decides to come back. Part of UC's pitch to Rashawn Fredericks was his role if Jacob Evans comes back. Also, I think a few things work in UC favor regarding his decision: Evans is very young for a junior, the draft this year is loaded on guards/wings, next year's draft is supposed to be terrible, Evans had an extremely poor finish to the year shooting the ball and the sour taste from the Nevada loss...

I really need to stop talking myself into this...

If Evans leaves, I don't see a single player on an AAC roster that will eventually be a first round pick.

Rose doesn't have the body or defensive chops to rise up boards. Jalen Adams is very old (will be 23 in December). Foster probably won't play the entire season and he will be a 22 year old senior. Needless to say, the talent exodus this year is pretty significant.

rose is 6'8 and plays the point guard position, i dont get him not having the body for the nba...at his size IMO for him to be good at defense is honestly effort, same for rebounding..if he puts effort into rebounding/defense this coming season first round is definitely in play

but i disagree with the talent exodus/no aac first round talent... the AAC is a guard league, most of the talent in this league is in the guard positions. the problem is that all the guard in the league left...but that doesnt mean there isnt talent

it just means the talent is unknown..there will likely be a Melvin Frazier type midseason jump for someone ....i also think adams stock could skyrocket if uconn starts winning and he improves his 3pt% regardless of age (look at grayson allen)

(also isnt it effed up that nowadays kids get punished for finishing college! being a college aged senior hurts your stock, has nothing to do with the topic, its just something that has been bothering me for while)

On Rose, I was referring to his strength rather than length. His length is a definite plus but he would get tossed around in the NBA without 15 more pounds of muscle. He has a boatload of potential, it's just up to him to reach it.
Adams has the talent to have been a high-level prospect. He simply did not have the mentor to develop and fine-tune said talent. One year with Hurley may help, but multiple years under a competent coach would have done wonders.
In regards to AAC guard talent, I don't know if he's a future first round pick, but Jarron Cumberland is poised to have a big year -- especially if Evans doesn't come back.

Completely agree. Evans was really good, but Cumberland looked like someone that could be scary good the next couple years.

Yeah, I'd agree. He doesn't have the length or jumping ability of Evans so he will never be an impact defender but his offensive skillset is better. Cumberland will be a monster this year.
marshall think wichita will be young but will be vastly improved in defense from last year

I'm extremely excited for this coming year. In a different way than normal. I'm not expecting a deep tourney run, but with having so many new athletic players, it going to be fun if they all buy in to Marshall's system. Lots of young players getting real minutes will only pay dividends in the future.

I think there will be some definite growing pains, particularly early in the year, but if these guys buy in and jell well, they could be pretty dangerous late in the year. (For those of you that think all of us WSU fans think we’re the greatest thing since sliced bread, you’re right, we do. I hope most fans feel that way about their favorite teams. However, I’m not at all saying, nor have I ever said we will steamroll the conference.)
A team full of 3 star freshmen and 1 decent upperclassman is not going to be dangerous at all in this league next season.

I’m not saying they’re going to win the league. But they could certainly be dangerous as far as knocking somebody off that thinks they’re sitting pretty at the top or going to cruise through the tournament. 3G has done more with less.

It seems a tad early to say a freshmen-laden team is going to be vastly improved in defense...

Probably not .. but if any coach is going to get the benefit of the doubt about getting more out his players than the stars indicate ... it's Marshall.

Buying in on defense and learning the D1 game is yet to be determined, but athletically they will be much improved. I think coach learned his lesson about great MVC players and where that gets you in the AAC.

Well when your starting point is one of the worst defensive teams that Marshall has had at WSU ... you have a lot of room to improve :)

winning the league is almost at zero percent ...but making the tournament isn't impossible

IMO it'll all depend on torres and mcduffie, they have enough pieces to be good defensively
itll all depend if torres and mcduffie can be consistent scorers as upperclassman ..torres could have a similar impact to corey davis at houston

but they are going in with A LOT of ifs...i wouldn't bet money on wichita being good, but i wouldn't be shocked

Sounds like our Final Four team.

I’m as pessimistic as anyone in regards to next season. I’m on record predicting somewhere around .500. With that said I can see the future and I see thousands of Shocker fans traveling to Memphis on a Sunday in March.

It could be a rough start to the season with all the new pieces, but I think Marshall has them ready for a conference tourney run in front of a very friendly WSU crowd in Memphis.
I'm not saying that Wichita fans shouldn't be optimistic about the future with this group of young players, but let's not pretend that they'll finish in the top half of the league and contend for an NCAA berth NEXT SEASON.

Don’t bet against Gregg Marshall, you’ll end up behind.
