Liberty University released their master plan and it looks great from what I have seen
I'm getting excited about the Master Plan, all projects have been put on hold till its released. It will kick off a new Old Dominion with about $500mil in plan projects. And of course the football field expansion. Don't think it will be Foreman Field after the expansion, cause dead people don't give money.

"You're going to like the way we look."
I'm more worried about where I can tailgate. They keep getting rid of parking lots.
Tailgating and parking will always be an issue, we just don't have the land. Lucky for us the city and mayor likes us. This may lead to using the fields of Larchmont. Also there could be a big push to see more tailgating in Kaufman Mall and to open other areas of campus. The parking will limit the max size of the stadium.
Parking garage tailgate! Yes!
I am one that uses parking garages on game day. In four years I have only had an issue once. That was last season when the Ted had an event at the same time. 80 percent of the last four years I have been able to park on the first level.
The definitely should allow tailgating at least on the top levels of the garages. They could have a "no grill" rule to make it safer. Make it so you have to have a pass to get to the top level. I would be happy to tailgate on the mall in front of Webb Center, but I dont want to have to tear all my stuff down right before the game and haul it all back across campus to the car. One benefit to the tailgate is that you can let traffic die down while you celebrate. Going back to the garage, hauling everything back to the mall and re-setting up is ridiculous. Perhaps they could keep security out there to look after everyone's stuff to be sure peoples spots arent getting looted during the game. Then folks could leave their stuff up. People in "the grove" at ole Miss leave their tents up all day, go to the game and return to them with no problems.
I actually don't care much about the tailgating. I do enjoy it, but really not much more than having some beers at Mojo Bones, which isn't quite as fun, but much less work.

Word. If we have to build more parking garages and give up tailgating spots in order to get large stadium (50K+ eventually) then I'm down. I am perfectly capable of getting down with some tablegating and it will probably end up saving me some money on a weekly basis.
At Perfectly Franks 1 dollar miller lite on game day. I take two other people with me. We are buzz and bellies full under $40.
In light of the offseason bore and recent comments from recruits, it's time to speculate. Do you guys believe ODU will announce plans for a new stadium, or plans for the expansion of S.B. Ballard Stadium? I hope it is the former.

In the event that the decision is made to build a new stadium, I hope we keep a few things in mind.

1. The sideline seating should be parallel to the sideline of the playing field. UNC's Kenan Memorial Stadium (bad) vs Stanford Stadium (good). There is no reason to push the seating at the 50 farther back. Doing so limits crowd sound potential and it worsens the view.

2. Fully enclosed lower deck > horseshoe. I say this due to crowd sound potential and aesthetics. Although, if it is necessary to build a horseshoe, for one reason or another Maryland's Byrd Stadium is a good model to consider. The bottom level has a seating capacity of 34,680.

3. If the plan is to expand by adding another deck, you still should not skimp on lower deck capacity. The higher the ratio of lower deck seating vs upper deck seating, the higher the ratio of good view seats vs available seats. Check out Michigan State's Spartan Stadium for an example of the concept I'm referring to. Charlotte's Stadium is an example of the contrary. For the most part I like what they've done. I don't understand why you would start out with a lower level of 15,000 if the intention is to expand to 40,000 someday. Perhaps they don't intend to build a 25,000 seat second deck. I don't know what the future is there.

4. Steep seating > moderate slope seating. Steep seating allows for greater sound potential from the crowd and more seating in a smaller area of land. Clemson's Memorial Stadium vs Michigan Stadium.

5. Symmetry > Asymmetry. A symmetrical stadium offers less variance in the view quality of different seats than an asymmetrical stadium. Consider JMU's Bridgeforth Stadium (LMFAO) vs Notre Dame Stadium and NC State's Carter-Finley Stadium. Symmetrical stadiums are also more aesthetically pleasing.

If I had it my way we'd build a lower deck similar to Stanford Stadium, Boston College's Alumni Stadium, or ASU's Sun Devil Stadium of seating capacity 35,000. Then we could worry about expansion down the road, if demand calls for it.

What do ya'll think?
I would much rather build new, but that begs the question, where? Looking at the map, I see 3 potential sites, all presenting challenges. I have attached them for comment.

1. East Side of Hampton Boulevard South of University Village.
Issue: Property Acquisition

2. Site of the Larchmont school.
Issue: This is an active school. Also should receive pushback from the neighborhood, which includes some powerful and influential people.

3. Site of the Golf Course.
Issue: Golf Course is fairly new and the site would pose major game day traffic, parking, and access issues. Also not sure if the ground is stable enough for such a foundation.
100% agree with all areas of that and with the 35k mark for right now. Yes... 40k would sound better but I think 35k will allow us to build a solid base stadium and then tack on later with a upper area to get to 45ish which I think may be a good sweet spot to stay at for a long while. Unless absolutely amazing things take place.

I like the clam shells but would be totally ok with them going away. We can re-purpose the bricks with a surrounding brick wall made in the same design? Or archway entrance.

Yeah, pretty sure the golf course site was not an option period. It's build on unstable ground and could not support that kind of infrastructure.

I haven't really been engaged with what has been discussed on stadium sites, but I'll take your word for it and take option 3 off the table. I literally just looked at a map and saw 3 potential empty spaces.

I tried to fit a larger stadium on the same footprint incorporating the clamshell bricks.

Thoughts?

Re: #2 Earlier in this thread (somewhere) I mentioned that S.B. Ballard has a contract with the City of Norfolk to build a replacement for Larchmont Elementary. I do not know if the land behind the current school could be leased by ODU from the school district, or even which entity controls that land.

What is the site of the replacement and what is the estimated completion?
ODNick-love it!

Those are good questions Ever, unfortunately I can't answer them. Here is the link http://www.sbballard.com/news_detail.php?news=45 to the story (4th. paragraph.) I don't know if this opens up any possibilities, but finding that bit of news got me thinking that something could be afoot in that area.
