Got an email last week about some strategic plan ODU is doing and decided to check out what it was today. Somehow I randomly ran into this little gem.

http://www.odu.edu/life/buildings/buildings/projects

Thought it would be appropriate to post it up on here again. The new Ed. building is huge and brock commons looks pretty sweet.

There's is some good info ther, like the new locker rooms at Foreman Field.

Locker room looks like it could really hinder pedestrian flow since it looks like there may not be an entrance to the end zone stands or north home side at that spot any more. Hopefully we just use this for a couple of years. I'd like to see the new place up in three seasons so we don't have to go through reseating.
I doubt the stadium will be up by 2017. I'm thinking it will be finished by 2018. Housing needs to be built first and foremost for the 700 students that will be displaced by the stadium. That itself probably would take 2 years to plan and construct. My timeline for the stadium:

2014: Initial seating size for stadium and plan for new student housing
2015:Begin construction of new student housing
2016-2017:Begin demolition of Powhatan and construction of stadium once new dorms are built
2018: Finish new stadium by Summer 2018
Okay first the stadium must be finished by 2017 because of contracts with fbs teams. If stadium is not complete we will lose that team. I think its tech. We must be in a new stadium for that game. The dorms won't take long to build.

Also the sidewalk traffic will be fine. The locker room is going to the student gate line or where the gate is now. The new student will be built around entrance somewhere around flamingo joes sttand so foot traffic can flow underneath the stands or down the west side.

No, we need to notify Tech of the status of our stadium by August 2018 for the games played 2022 and onwards (I believe)

Our first agreement with va tech stated we needed a larger stadium for them to come to Norfolk for any game.

The first time VT is scheduled to visit ODU is 2018.

After looking at the Capital Project plan link I will NEVER understand why Rogers & Gresham doesn't get bulldozed for the new stadium. The other apartments on that block are junk anyhow...

Brock Commons (link above) would tie the University Village to the Stadium. Why have the new stadium over a mile from the crown jewel of campus? Dumb, dumb, dumb.

Where would students live? You gotta remember, ODU is going for what will benefit them, not what can benefit us. Rogers and Gresham will be gone soon and that area is going to become tailgating. But not until they have new dorms to replace that area. Plus the stadium wouldn't fit in that area.

Plus nothing against anybody else but as a student I would not want tuition raised to huge amount for a new stadium. I want them to take there time on it and plus since VT is coming in 2018 then it gives ODU time to raise more money for the stadium instead of hiking up tuition.

The Systems Research building was talked about in 2010 when I first started as a student here and now is going to be finished in 2014. I'm not holding my breath about those new dorms being built right away. Designing and getting state money takes a huge amount of time cause I'm pretty sure the state has to approve all drawings of a college building.

Pretty sure thats not the case. Wood said they have agreed to possibly play at Foreman Field for the first game. The rest of the series must be in the new stadium.

That is correct Monarx.

Tech plays here in 2018 sandwiched between two years up there.

Yes. Which is why if a stadium isn't finished in 2017 for some reason, it won't affect the Tech game.
Forget the stadium....lol. I just want to know how parking is going to be affected. I was working on homework today and a friend told me that the parking lot behind the Deihn building is shutting down next semester for the new dining hall. Anyone know about this? ODU is quite sneaky to us students sometimes

Yup they sneaked it past us. By making it one of their main points of the Master Plan meetings. I went to those presentations, and they put heavy emphasis on the new Webb Center and Dining Hall. It's been out in the open for a while, although I didn't know of the timeline.
I don't have much faith in seeing a new stadium for about ten years. I.e. the basketball practice facility. What is the time line on that? Nothing has started, nor has it been mentioned lately.
