From the '13 Master Plan
From the Webb replacement artwork
The new building calls for "The proposed combination general fund and 9D bond project will build a new 158,462 gsf, multi-story building of standard
40 year construction on a pile-supported slab. "
IIRC the new chemistry building calls for 30 year. Odd.

From the master plan. The old Education building (Now Monarch Hall) remains. So these buildings will find a new location. They just spent a lot of time and money removing asbestos from that building and are starting the build out of the new maker space as well as moving offices and such inside....
HOWEVER:
Description: Consistent with the University’s masterplan,
this proposed general fund project is to augment the program space in the existing Health Sciences Building by demolishing the old Education Building and constructing a new 126,154 gsf Health Sciences Building, Phase I, of standard 40-year construction on that site. The new Health Sciences Building will house about 60% of the Universities Health Science programs. As currently envisioned the building program will include:
- Undergraduate and graduate instructional (wet) laboratories supporting multiple disciplines
- Specialized simulation laboratories for instruction within a simulated hospital environment
- Recording suites for use in evaluating student –simulated patient interactions
- A dental facility with examining and treatment rooms along with support spaces
- Physical therapy examination and treatment rooms along with support spaces
- Mediated classrooms
- Computer laboratories
- Meeting and conference rooms
- Faculty offices and dean’s suite
This project is being submitted to align the University’s six-year capital plan with its master plan. In developing the plan, a number of alternatives were considered, including building a 22,000 square foot addition to the existing building or leasing the additional space. The University discarded adding to the building as an option because site constraints foreclose our ability to provide adequate square footage in the long term. Leasing was also discarded because suitable leased space to meet the College’s needs is simply not available.
Demolition of the old Education Building will allow new construction of a multi-story Health Sciences Building which will serve the needs of the University, and the Commonwealth, for many years to come.
