Otherwise, why would they be selling this stuff to recruits? BTW, Lawry's quote is strikingly identical to what I overheard at the spring game - from a pretty reliable source.

So building new is the goal?
No. I heard existing site.

Where would we play in the meantime?

We should be able to do construction in phases.
Not certain of all the details, but I was told 35k first phase, with ability to go slightly larger than Lawry had quoted. I'm going to assume that the construction will be scheduled/planned as such so that it has minimal impact to ticket holders; ala JMU.
Not sure how that is possible with the clam shells... what did Lawry say? Can't find it. It would seem a full tear down/rebuild would be needed on that site to get to that capacity.

Here's the link to Lawry's quote:http://recruiting.scout.com/2/1300473.html

“They’re trying to build a new stadium with 35,000 seats and then expand it to 60,000. They’re trying to get new practice facilities and the football program is on the rise.”

Scout Foxsports Lawry Makes Decision

Old Dominion spent plenty of time the past few years recruiting New Jersey, and the dividends continue to pay off.

After Williamstown (N.J.) High cornerback Marques Little committed over the weekend, Kingsway High (Woolwich, N.J.) High running back Ray Lawry joined the class. He announced tonight he committed to Old Dominion "I took a visit over weekend and got to see all of the campus and I toured the facilities," Lawry said.
Lawry also likes the backing the football program is receiving from athletics.

"It was crazy how much money they have and what they are trying to do," Lawry said. "They're trying to build a new stadium with 35,000 seats and then expand it to 60,000. They're trying to get new practice facilities and the football program is on the rise."

Lawry rushed for more than 2,200 yards and 32 touchdowns as a junior, and he believes ODU will move to a more running-based offense with his arrival.

I wonder if the school might be eyeing the property by Central Radio that is currently earmarked for more student housing. That site appears plenty big enough to me. The fact that it is currently tied up in eminent domain litigation until September might also explain the delay in announcing construction plans. The administration may want to wait until that case has been won before announcing they plan to build a football stadium there rather than housing. I think it would be a great site.
I don't think that we're going to be getting another plot of land that large added on to campus for a long long time. Take that as either a boon to put a stadium there or not.

I think it'd be better used for a student housing high-rise, along with an extension of Monarch Way, and the addition of some outdoor activities like a basketball court.

Either way, I am excited to see what happens to that land.
If the 60,000 comment holds any truth, that says to me that we will be demolishing the clamshells. Exciting!

I belieive the clam shells will have to go. Makes no sense to keep them.
I think there would be huge public outcry if they took those businesses land and didn't use them for educational purposes. Yes, I'd be a good spot, but politically it's a really bad idea. I would love it if ODU could acquire the Larchmont elementary property and WHRO along with that field too. That would take some serious help from the city though. My guess is it doesn't move. The field and gameday building stay, but the rest goes. Perhaps the new admin building goes too.
Long been thought all the way back to 51 goes..rotc admin and whatever else is back there. That would become the vistors tunnel and locker rooms with storage. Move the score board and that damn cannon or as I call it the call of the drunks.
I'd love for the clam shells to go. A new 35K stadium with easy expansion potential would be phenomenal.

I like that idea. Let the success of the program pay for future expansion instead of killing all demand too early.
Can one side be demolished and a new side be built in a year?

JMU had their lower tier done in one off season

I think these photos are really cool, it's a great way to get people pumped and want to see the stadium first hand, although we don't really need to try and sell tickets, one day we might and it's always useful to stoke up some excitement.
Tear down the clam shell. Tear down Powhatan. Tear down Whitehurst. Build big student housing complex where the clamshell is. Build a big open ended stadium (35-50k) facing the Elizabeth River(it could be gorgeous and it would be right next to the practice facilities).

That would be ideal, but I don't think that could be done in a single offseason.
