Thanks, good pictures as always
Thanks for the pics. I see Norfolk is in a bit of a bad financial situation right now, which is part of the reason they sold the ODU golf course. https://pilotonline.com/news/government/...1a8a0.html That seems like a missed opportunity for the state to have acquired that land for the ODU campus. I cant imagine the politicians in Richmond letting land next to UVA get sold to a sanitation company. Any local insights are appreciated.

Norfolk is increasing property taxes to to cover costs for schools, vehicles, raises etc..

Part of the reason why the St. Pauls HUD housing are being phased out is to create more taxable land. Though it's only been in the news for roughly a year or so, it's been in the works since at least 2011.

That being said, the city seems to be pretty quick with repairs every time I call the Norfolk Cares line to report a pothole, damaged signs, street lights etc...

This shows they are renovating the Strome Entrepreneurial Center/Visual Arts building, only valued at $750k so nothing major.

This is my least favorite building on the mall, looks nothing like the others and is just plain ugly. I think a new college of business building is going there in the future.

That building was brand new when I was on campus. It never did fit in with the others, though at that time nearly all of them looked different. Maybe the renovations will help it match more on the exterior.

The '13 Master plan has to buildings at that location. The replacement is hinted at in the Webb Center replacement model.

I'll be on campus tomorrow. Not sure if any of you have seen the renovation in the Webb yet. I can snag some pics of this and 1201 if you want.
Always get pics of campus

Good pull. This tells me an indoor practice facility is appx. 15-20 years away.

I hope we eventually have enough money to waste it on something like that.
About a year ago I posted a pic of the layout for the renovation inside the Webb Center on the South side of the building. I can't find it right now, but I took some pictures this morning before my meeting on campus.
As always, sorry for some of the pics being crummy. Tried to grab as many as I could in a short amount of time.

When do we think they will tear down Webb and build the new student center?

I would assume with all the money and time they are spending renovating it that it would be a while before they tore it down.

Perhaps they'll just do it in sections, since it allows the continual use of a vital building to campus.

I don't understand that either. Why spend the money renovating when they are supposed to tear it down and make a nice new center there sometime soon? Thought that was already approved? Whatever they do, just make it beautiful and worthy of being the signature building of a top tier national university. Or at least better than CNU, JMU etc.

They likely realize they won't be able to rebuild it for a while. So you make renovations to better fit your needs and extend the useful life of the building.
Is the money approved? I thought it was. I dont think the renovations cause that much and they are only renovating a very small part of webb center.
