Looks like it's worse. Their offense is a total joke. It will improve, as Arenado and Blackmon are not likely to go homerless for the season, but it's unlikely to be a good offense. And now they're 3-10, which is a pretty deep hole in a competitive league and a semi-competitive division. To channel stever, if they want to duplicate last season's 85 wins they're going to have to go 82-67 the rest of the way. A .550 pace is not easy when your offense stinks and the competition is fierce.

It's worse than that swoosh.... they won 91 games.... So would need to go 88-61 the rest of the way- a .591 96 win pace.

This is baaaad, Samardzajia is one of the worst in the league and he looked like Roger Clemons juiced up last night. It is not over yet, but this needs to turn around quickly.

Apologies, don't know where I saw 85. But yeah, 91 is long gone.
2019 Nats bullpen: as consistent as the rising of the sun

2019 Anthony Rendon: MVP and likely to sign mega contract

And now Colin Moran with the pinch hit 3 run HR off Miller. It was an 0-2 count.
right now, MVP would be Bellinger and it wouldn't be remotely close. He might hit 50 homers...…

but it might not be enough. The Dodgers vaunted starting rotation is not doing well. Urias shelled tonight....
I think it's official: the Rockies have the worst offense in the league. 7 shutout innings with only 1 base runner against Vincent, Gott and Bergen.

Except Rendon is remotely close, but it doesn't really matter at this point
So Mike Rizzo, the GM of the team with an MLB worst 8.12 bullpen ERA, designated Trevor Gott for assignment and then traded him to the Giants for nothing. So far Gott has pitched in 6 games, going 8.2 innings, striking out 10 and walking 2 per 9 innings, with an ERA of 2.08. Not saying it's such an egregiously bad move, but man could they have used him. He's been such a good addition to what's predictably been one of the best units in baseball so far.

If it was the end of the season, Bellinger would be close to unanimous. He's even ahead of Rendon in fWAR. 8 homers to 6 for Rendon.

He is ahead of him, but it's not like Rendon is more than a couple good games behind. They've both been tremendous.
Bellinger/Rendon may be the MVP so far in the NL, but the MVP of today is Chris Davis. 3-5 with 2 doubles and 4 RBI. His average is up to .079.

Can't decide if I'm happy for him or sad the streak is over
Giants up 3-0 through 5. Freeland looks pretty ****** and the Rockies offense is still quite offensive. If we hold on, it'll dig their hole even deeper.

Meanwhile, I love what Zaidi did with this team. He knew that aside from spending big money on Machado or Harper there was no obvious way to greatly improve the offense. So instead he improved the defense. Costs much less than improving an offense. And it has worked. Look at the difference between our team ERA and FIP. A lot of that difference comes from our very good defense. It just shows that in this era of ubiquitous shifting, defensive skill still matters.
The Giants still suck, they are just playing a team that sucks more presently.

They do, nobody is saying otherwise. But it's also true that they have a good pen and good defense. My statement and your statement are not mutually exclusive.

Definitely the latter. Now he's just a terrible hitter. During the streak he was a HISTORICALLY bad hitter.

There's gonna come a point when the Orioles have to eat the contract and move on. There's almost no point with where the franchise is now, but even for a guy you're paying that much you can't keep a sub-.200 hitter in an everyday role.
