(04-08-2019 01:55 PM)Brookes Owl Wrote: [ -> ]Interesting stat: Hyun-Jin Ryu hasn't walked a batter at Dodger Stadium since last August 26 (40ish IP). His H/R splits last year were significant - 1.15 vs 3.58 ERA respectively (although his BBs allowed delta not that significant - he only allowed 15 all year). Home cooking, indeed.

He's facing Miles Mikolas tonight. I guess I was paying even less attention than usual to the Cards last year, while Mikolas was compiling a 2.83 ERA and WHIP of 1.07 - I had no idea. fWAR of 4.3! Dodgers may be catching him before he's gotten rid of the winter rust, as he's currently at 7.20 ERA and 1.50 WHIP. (Actually, WHIP of 1.50 isn't nearly as bad as ERA of 7.20 - making it possible he's pitching better than it looks. Although FIP is >8 so who knows...)

One thing about Ryu looking at the Dodgers upcoming schedule- and his place in the rotation- he's looking in his next 9 starts of 7 of those 9 being on the road. Only 2 home starts- Brewers and Nats.

Yup - it's a real test. But let's face it - they're not going to platoon him and only have him pitch at home. If he's a 3.50 ERA guy on the road, well, that's ok. They just don't want him to be 2nd half Stripling on the road.

yeah. Just bad luck quite frankly. Maybe he gets a well placed rain out and the schedule changes a bit.
And the Cubs, who apparently aren't in a deep enough hole yet, had to pull Lester from today's game for hamstring tightness.

Yeah, early yada yada yada but it really is remarkable how poorly the Cubs and Red Sox have started.

We tried to dig them a deeper hole, but bats went silent last game.

Still, 2 of 3 from defending WS champs isn't bad.

I saw the ass-whooping on Friday in person :)

Their offense is a nightmare. If I was a fan I'd be pissed that they didn't open the vault for Harper

Hope their trend continues through this series at home against the Braves. So far, so good, Braves up 4-zip in 3rd.

Man, Acuna, Jr. with 8 RBIs so far this season, but an ugly .156 BA.

Nats/Phils beating up on eachother. Hope neither team sweeps.

edit: Phils won. Nats need to win at least 1 if not 2 of these.

Meanwhile, good guys now up 7-3 in 5th...hey, the Rockies scored 3 runs already, so they're doing better! Swanson's been on fire so far this year, maybe it really was the injury last season that hampered him badly. Love to see him have an All-Star year. Move him up in the lineup!

Edit2: Rockies put up a 6-spot in Bottom of 5th. Now 7-6 Braves. Teheran just couldn't hold a 7-run lead...but in defense, it is Coors Field.

edit3: braves pulled it out 8-6. Teheran gets the W, Minter the save. Gotta like this year's version of Swanson so far. Freddie Freeman is still Freddie Freeman.
Joe Kelly is gonna be the death of Brookes

*SIGH* Guy’s on pace for about 40 blown leads.

And for those of you keeping score at home, Ryu hurt his left groin - the same one he tore last year. When he was out 3 months. This could make things pretty tricky with Urias, who was supposed to make only one more start and then go to the pen cuz they want to limit his innings.
Has anyone seen what Trout is doing? If we could ever get a full season of healthy Trout, I have to be imagine we'd be looking at like 11 WAR. His wRC+ so far is 317. But what's really impressive are the BB and K rates of 27.3% and 6.8%. I wish he hadn't signed an extension and instead played out his current contract. Would love to have seen him on a real team and not this garbage franchise.
Has anyone seen what the Reds have done? I'm just shocked that adding a bunch of mediocre players to a mediocre team hasn't produced better results. Really thought they were gonna ride that wonderful pitching staff to a playoff appearance (granted it's the offense that's been the biggest problem, currently sitting dead last in runs scored).

I was wondering about that....

I think Buehler now is going to be a real key for them....

Is any of this really going to be a concern? The Dodgers are going to win the division and I doubt it'll be particularly close. They have plenty of depth to weather any of these minor storms.

guys like Urias though that they will need in the playoff might not be able to go hard if they have to get run hard here in the regular season... Also, there are a lot of questions about Buehler coming off the innings that he threw last year... Depth is great, but the Dodgers depth is what they want to use in the playoffs, and if they're gassed, it's not good.

I don’t think Buehler is the problem - Kershaw and Hill are at the stage where injury recovery is something you can’t always count on. Yes, the Dodgers have depth to get them to a division win but a return trip to the WS and a chance to win it will need all of their front line guys to be healthy (and available) in the post season. Wearing out Urias by July isn’t gonna help.

And that's what the Mets were saying about Harvey.... Now, make sure you know- I'm not saying he's similar to Harvey, but guys with huge innings jumps sometimes never are the same. If he's not Buehler, I just don't think they can win in the playoffs.

Your last sentence is certainly true. But for what it’s worth you are the only guy I’ve seen writing about Buehler and innings. Team expects him to go 200 which kind of implies no limit. But I know you’re not gonna let me forget your warnings...
Sale hit again pretty hard.... 5 runs in 4 innings with only 3 k's. 13 runs in 13 innings for the season with only 8 k's. Definitely not good.

I feel for you, man...thought they'd be better than this.

Anyone want to talk about if Seattle is real this year so far? You could always adopt them this year while the Reds recover.
Max fried having another great outing this time at Coors Field, so far at least. Only the 5th, but the kid is dealin'.

Swanson with yet another homer. 4 for the year. Batting .344/.439/.813

Acuna, Jr. with the same BA so far as FA signee Josh Donaldson: .194. But Acuna, Jr. just hit his fourth homer as well, so making them count.
Robles just homered to left with 2 out in b9 for Nats to tie their game with Philly. Rooting for Nats to take 2 of these, and they lost last night.

Robles and Soto have a good game. Nats 10, Philibrets 6, 10inn.
