Just saw that for pitchers it's back to a 15 day disabled list.

Thank goodness....

Just for pitchers? You can just see Manfred eyeballing Friedman while he inks that one. 03-lmfao
Interesting...

Quote:...the players pointedly did not agree to a rule that will take effect in 2020 requiring that every relief pitcher face no fewer than three batters, and commissioner Rob Manfred pushed it through unilaterally.

saw something interesting with regards to this. the union didn't oppose it though- they're not contesting it. It's tough for the union because the batters are for this obviously but the pitchers(especially the relief pitchers)- aren't.

Yep, just for pitchers. They had to do it after what the Dodgers were doing... and starting to get copycatted.

Also options for pitchers will be 15 days again instead of the 10 days. So no longer able to do the bullpen shuffle...

If the reason for this is to speed up the game, Keith Olbermann had a better suggestion: Pitchers who enter the game in the middle of an inning don't get warm up pitches on the field. They have to do all of their warming up in the bullpen before they're called in. A quarterback who is substituted into a football game doesn't stop the game for 5 minutes to walk on the field and make several practice passes before he has to take a snap. A basketball player entering the game doesn't stop the game to take a bunch of practice shots before play restarts.

That is true, but networks use that time for commercials so it won’t change. Even a Socialist like Olbermann. Should know that.

The TV guys also air commercials between every half inning in a baseball game -- that's already 26 commercial breaks between the first pitch and the last out of a nine-inning game. Your argument is that 26 commercial breaks during a game is not enough? We'll have to agree to disagree on that one.

Unless something crazy has happened, there are 16 commercial breaks between 1st pitch and last out of a home team win after top 9, and 17 if game ends in bottom 9. 1 after top 1, 1 after bottom 1, etc.

Not arguing against you, but the teams will not give that up,

Wonder how much insurance protection a team has when a highly paid player gets injured. I assume they get compensated if a player misses an entire season due to injury, but do they get nothing if he misses a few weeks of games?
wow
how about this tweet-
Good for Trout, he deserves the $$$.

Who knows, maybe the Angels will make the playoffs once or twice during that 12-year contract. 07-coffee3
Told you guys he was staying, Hopefully he gets a decent team around him.

They are the strangest team. Top 10 payroll but very little to show for it. I'm actually pretty impressed they're doing this (wonder if Harper's flirting accelerated things) but I doubt they'll do much more until they can get Pujols off the books (contract runs through 2021). Their farm isn't the worst but it's lower tier - they just don't have much in assets and I don't think Arte is a big FA kind of owner after getting bit by the Pujols deal.
so 1st game of the 2019 season and 5 homers were hit... 18 strike outs. 9 walks.

And most shocking......

a 1-2-3 inning for Hunter Strickland to get the save for the Mariners.
interesting

wonder if we'll see more and more of this.
Of course. The last two years worth of FAs got deals smaller than they were hoping, or didn't get deals at all. Agents and players see the writing on the wall and under the current CBA the current set of conditions incentivize this.
