Yeah, you essentially ended their careers.

We're winning again today (although Anderson has sucked). If we hold on and then take 3 of 4 from the Mets and 2 of 3 from the Cubs, things will get crazy. At that point we'd be 52-51 going into July 26th and a series against the Padres. They still need to be sellers, but things could get freaky really fast.

Yep. Regression is almost a certainty but even without it long term improvement probably demands leveraging current talent for prospects and picks. Selling while in or very near the #2 WC spot is a very tough position for Zaidi. This is so weird - can I root for Zaidi (who is a really good guy) while rooting against the mother****ing Giants?

I think, yes. I used to root for Kershaw, while rooting against the Dodgers.

I think Zaidi is showing why the Dodgers never gave out a huge contract while he was there; if you're a great talent evaluator, you can sign reasonably similar alternatives for a fraction of the cost. Also, if your organization is good at player development, you can improve from within.
Time for football to start, baseball season over for Rockies.

was thinking this might even help San Francisco out. They can play the we might keep these guys card- making a contender who wants those guys to possibly overpay more???
Wow! Go into a meeting before the AZ-TX game starts, come out and Dbacks are up 12-0 going into bottom of 2nd.

Scored 7 runs in the first, 5 in the second. Jarrod Dyson has batted three times already
so something to kind of watch for- the Nats vs the O's started Voth last night and Fedde tonight. One of those was Scherzer's spot. Was hoping that they would send down Voth today to show that Scherzer was going to be able to start this weekend in the spot. But with Voth still up- makes me wonder if that'll even happen.

I read that Scherzer is going to do a bullpen tomorrow and if it goes well,he will start Sunday.

of course the pen blows one tonight vs the O's. 3-2 since the break and now the schedule gets really tough.

Wade Davis might be available along with some other arms.

we want to you know, actually improve???
And then they have a rain delay bullpen game where they are completely lights out.

Jansen, by the way, now has a trust problem. Roberts is pissed about the delta between Jansen’s in-game reaction to the comebacker that hit him in the ankle (insisted he was fine) and his post-game comments that he should’ve come out.
yeah I saw that. With what happened last night, you wonder if they need to get another arm if they don't just IL Jansen to be safe here.

Thought it was interesting in a close game they used Kelly 8th and Floro 9th last night. Would that be the order if he's gone? With recent performance, I'd be inclined to do the opposite- with Kelly in the 9th(something 3 months ago you'd be LOL'ing about for sure).

I agree with this, including the LOL. Floro was absolutely unhittable for the first 6-7 weeks but really tailed off. Kelly has been pretty stout since mid-June. My guess: Floro has looked better since start of July (except for BBs which are up - that's terrible for a RP) and they're looking to see if he can regain his early season form. With a 14 game lead I think we'll see the Dodgers try a few things (not unlike the Joc Pederson 1B tryout).
So we've got our first arguing-balls-and-strikes-with-a-robot ejection! Frank Viola (remember him?), pitching coach for the High Point Rockers of the Atlantic League, was tossed from his first inning with an automated strike zone.

Both Philly and LA used up their pens last night. Will be interesting to see how the starters fare in today's early game.
saw LA at least optioned a guy and promoted a different reliever.

watch a Dodgers pitcher get a resting type of "injury", and the pitcher they sent down gets promoted in a day or two.... What I like about next year is that then the guy has to be out for 15 days instead of 10.

Yup - the ones with options can be yo-yo'd. Glad they are doing a 15 Day DL instead of 10 to combat the fake injuries
