Rockies have scored exactly 1 run in the last 31 innings. Hopefully this is just an anomaly.

It's a bit early to freak out

I find freaking out early sets an appropriately pessimistic tone, so that I can be pleasantly surprised later. Alternatively, if it really IS that bad I can say I told you so (hey stever!).

That’s one way of saying it. The other is that he was a sub-replacement level (or worse) reliever who had a few anomalously good weeks.

Yep, and he did ok: 6 IP, 3H, 1R, but only 1K against 2BB. Is this the new lower velo Sale the BoSox staff is looking for?

Quote:to give you an idea of how putrid the Red Sox starting has been- Price last night gave up 4 r in 6 ip with 3 homers. And that was the best start of the year for the Sox so far.

Red Sox and Yankees both struggling to start the season.
(04-02-2019 11:10 PM)stever20 Wrote: [ -> ]well I think Greinke is ok. 5 innings pitched so far with 2 runs and 10 k's.

oh, and 2 homers hit.

Yeah, if he can do that every game, he will earn his keep 01-ncaabbs
And the Nats horrific pen blows another one, as McCutchen clears the bases of all 3 runners with a double. In a tough division, you can't keep doing things like this.
have got to wonder if Rizzo and or Martinez is going to get the hot seat this year.

How was Martinez not already on the hot seat?

Also, the Phillies pen turns around and blows the lead. All tied at 8. There's some really bad relief pitching out there.
Wow, David Robertson starts the 9th in a tie game and proceeds to allow a single, followed by 3 walks and the Nats literally walk it off.
Rickies 2 runs in last 42 innings, but they won today 1-0.

Their offense is a nightmare. If I was a fan I'd be pissed that they didn't open the vault for Harper
Realmuto is the one Rockies should have pursued.

the dodgers are unstoppable, in terms of offense.

the bullpen in another discussion
I dunno - Jansen looks like his old self and that's by far the most important thing. There are a couple of guys who are carrying gas cans with them but they'll likely be optioned or dfa'd (Garcia) when Kershaw and Hill are back in the next week or so, with Urias and Stripling moving to the pen. Joe Kelly is the guy you really worry about cuz he's not going anywhere. Looks like he's having a good night tonight though; hopefully he's figuring things out.

ETA: And pretty much while I was typing this, Kelly was giving up a couple of hits and got yanked (both guys scored, natch). His FB and changeup appeared to be working, until they weren't.
I'm definitely happy I drafted Mr. Bellinger to my fantasy baseball team. Won week 1 9-0, despite the fact that my top 2 picks were Trea Turner and Giancarlo Stanton.

So with Bellinger, if there's a sophmore slump, does that mean there's a junior jump?

I like it.
Interesting stat: Hyun-Jin Ryu hasn't walked a batter at Dodger Stadium since last August 26 (40ish IP). His H/R splits last year were significant - 1.15 vs 3.58 ERA respectively (although his BBs allowed delta not that significant - he only allowed 15 all year). Home cooking, indeed.

He's facing Miles Mikolas tonight. I guess I was paying even less attention than usual to the Cards last year, while Mikolas was compiling a 2.83 ERA and WHIP of 1.07 - I had no idea. fWAR of 4.3! Dodgers may be catching him before he's gotten rid of the winter rust, as he's currently at 7.20 ERA and 1.50 WHIP. (Actually, WHIP of 1.50 isn't nearly as bad as ERA of 7.20 - making it possible he's pitching better than it looks. Although FIP is >8 so who knows...)

Here's a guy who isn't just putting his new contract in the bank and sitting on the couch eating bonbons.

It's crazy how he keeps having great seasons where one guy happens to have a *slightly* (or not at all) better season. Dude's due for another MVP. In the last 7 seasons he's won 2, finished second 4 times, and a lowly 4th once (when he was hurt and only played 114 games but still had 4th highest WAR!). And of course there are STRONG arguments he was a significantly better player in both of Cabrera's winning seasons. Not to mention Josh Donaldson's winning season. But you know, RBI and ****.

One thing about Ryu looking at the Dodgers upcoming schedule- and his place in the rotation- he's looking in his next 9 starts of 7 of those 9 being on the road. Only 2 home starts- Brewers and Nats.

Yup - it's a real test. But let's face it - they're not going to platoon him and only have him pitch at home. If he's a 3.50 ERA guy on the road, well, that's ok. They just don't want him to be 2nd half Stripling on the road.
