Still not sure if I should pay attention to the WBC (other than to hope no Dodgers will be playing in it and possibly getting hurt). I know you're a big fan - why is it so great?
The young player I just became really impressed with is Soto of the Nats. He could very well become a superstar and make Nats fans forget Bryce Harper.

Zack Greinke just hit his first ever triple in Pittsburgh

he entered today tied for 288 in total bases this year batting....

he's now 6-12 with 2 2b, 1 3b, and 2 hr this year. An insane 1.872 OPS-- best in MLB of all guys with more than 1 PA.

He's also got 5 scoreless innings pitched today. Since that 1st start in LA, he's got a 2.35 ERA in 30.1 innings. Yeah, I think that was a Dodgers thing and not a Greinke thing.
oh saw this fun factoid about Greinke's hitting....

he's got 5 extra base hits in his teams first 26 games.

The last pitcher with as many in as few games.... Someone named Babe Ruth. Wow.

He hit for the Cycle for the month of April. How many pitchers hit for the cycle in a year, let alone a month.

Yes, it is clear that Game one was in his head.

Well, guess the Silver Slugger for NL pitcher is pretty much decided. He is a great all around athlete.

Zack Greinke of the @Dbacks has now hit a single, 2 doubles, a triple and 2 home runs in April.

He is the first pitcher to hit for the cycle in a single month since Dontrelle Willis in August 2011 and the first righty to do so since Larry Christenson in June 1979.
Top of the 10th vs the Padres and the Nats pen is imploding again. They've given up 4 runs and there's still 1st and 2nd with only one out. How can Rizzo keep trotting out the same disastrous bullpen without making an addition?

Edit: make that 6 runs
Nats with the kind of win that can get you on a run for a few weeks today. Down early to the Padres 6-0 the bullpen pitches 8 scoreless innings and the Nats win 7-6 on a walk off homer by Adams.....

and saw this factoid about the game...
How crazy was it that Juan Soto, Victor Robles and Carter Kieboom each homered on Sunday for the Nationals? The last team with three players 21 or younger to homer in the same SEASON (let alone game) was the 1993 Expos with Cliff Floyd, Wil Cordero and Rondell White.

LOL I knew this exact post was coming
The thing the Nats pen has gotten is another good guy in Joe Ross. He gave up 3 runs in his first outing of .1 inning. since then, he's gone 6.1 scoreless innings with only 5 hits and 2 walks with 5 k's. no extra base hits. a babip a sustainable .278. His last 3 outings- a 1 batter hold in the 7th(2 lefties were up next so Sipp came in), then in a tie game in the 8th and a tie game in the 9th.

So now, the Nats have Doolittle, Barraclough, and Ross.

Only stever can be this optimistic about the worst pen in baseball. If a Dodgers SP pitches poorly on the road in one game, the sky is falling. Nats pen has one good game and they have a great pen.

They have some bad guys for sure- I'm expecting some moves anytime. Having Ross added to Barraclough and Doolittle is big though- gives them a 3rd option. Sipp is doing better with lefties- last 5 outings only 2 guys have gotten on vs him in 13 pa's-kind of to be expected given how late he signed that he'd struggle early. It's been Suero, Grace, and Miller that have been the killers. I'd expect to see those 3 change over pretty quickly.
And sorry but the Dodgers pitcher pitching poorly on the road is Ryu- his numbers last year home/ road were very stark. So it's not just this year for him. Of course he got hurt so that changed that for him.

I'm sure the 19-11 Dodgers are not overly concerned about Ryu and his 2.96 ERA

Home ERA 2.25
Away ERA 4.91

he was on a stretch where he was going to have to make something like 8 of 10 starts on the road. And even now, he's got 5 of his next 8 starts on the road. And it's not like this year was 1st time he had a huge home/away split. Last year it was 1.15 to 3.58 regular season. So when he struggles on the road- it's not just 1 start.
big stretch coming up for Yankees.

So far this year they've played 3 games all year long vs team with current winning record. They went 0-3 vs the Astros... 17-8 vs everyone else...

they now start a stretch with 12 games vs winning teams and 15 of 18. Pretty big stretch for them coming here....

You're not paying attention. Ryu has 7.1 IP on the road and 5.2 of that was a respectable 2 ER @MIL. So, one short 1.2 IP bad outing @STL. That's perfectly manageable unless, as you note, this is just a Ryu-on-the-road thing. But MIL tells me this might not be as bad as it was. Let's face it, a road ERA of 4.91 isn't that terrible in MLB 2019. (ETA: I'm definitely not bragging but LA's team road ERA is 5.07).

Kenta Maeda, on the other hand, is ABSOLUTELY bringing the gas can to his away starts: 14.1 IP, 7.53 ERA. Tonight @ Giants and their team wRC+ of 64 would be a nice opportunity to get that particular monkey off his back but if I'm going to worry about a Dodger starter on the road, it's definitely Maeda.

Speaking of SFO, I know somebody here was bashing Samardzia a little while back but he's actually off to a decent start this season. His BABIP and HR/FB seem a little on the lucky side but not egregiously so. If he keeps it up he's a guy the Giants might be able to leverage into a decent prospect or two at the trade deadline. I think that plays to Zaidi's strengths and it wouldn't have the awful blowback of trading Bumgarner.
