yeah know what you mean.

It'll be interesting to see come tomorrow night or Thursday what contender gets an injury that would have been able to get fixed with August trades....
Doesn’t look like much, if anything going to happen. I was hoping Rox would move some bodies.

I ******* hate Coors Field.

You just got the one starter who throws well there. Gray was dominant tonight.
His last 6 starts there,5-1 with an ERA under 3.40, he has figured it out, kind of.

It’s not so much Gray, which I don’t like but I understand. It’s that Maeda, who hasn’t really looked great in his last few starts, just didn’t need Coors field right now. It’s a rough enough place to pitch when you are feeling good. Hope he can shake it off. Today looks like a bullpen game; I’ll be thrilled if Urias just looks competent.

Fear not, Kyle Freeland picked up the slack. Besides, what are you worried about? Dodgers are a gazillion games up in division and 6.5 ahead of Atl. for best record. Just don’t get anyone hurt, all they have to do is pay attention.

and so the match has been lit. Reds trading with the Indians and getting Trevor Bauer.

Reds entered tonight 6.5 out of the division and wild card. They are losing tonight 8-3 so will be 7.5 out after tonight for division.

quick edit- Puig going to the Indians....
Braves get RP Chris Martin from ColdplayRangers. Gave up SP Kolby Allard, former #14 overall pick. Hope Martin can singpitch well in relief to help out our porous bullpen. Even Swarzak finally gave up a 3-run homer tonight.

Don't really count tonight's win as much, as it was basically against a AA pitcher for Nats. Dallas Keuchel has been worse than advertised so far, not really helping our rotation that much, which kind of shows you a) how bad the Braves rotation has really been so far this season and b) how much the improved hitting has helped overcome that more often than not.

Braves finally hitting their mid-season bad spell at an inopportune time. Yeah, we got the one win against the Nats to hold off the dam breaking, but with Markakis out, (And Swanson hurt) we really miss that help to our lineup.

Wonder if we'll get anyone else before the deadline. Hate to give much up for this season where Dodgers basically have a cakewalk to the World Series, and the AL boasts several strong teams and HF advantage (again) so it seems like, hard as it may be, Braves might be better off going with more or less what they've got rather than mortgage their farm when their window has barely opened. Luke Jackson will just have to be good enough for us this year it looks like. ( he walks the leadoff batter again in the 9th- sheeesh.) Minter has been confused, Wilson was brought up too early, and the rest of the kids are not quite ready to pitch up here. Don't want them to trade Pache or Anderson. And Soroka and Fried really will have innings pitched issues coming up in next month. Don't know that they should blow it up yet, just steady the course and hope for the best.
Tomorrow night's game is big, but we'll have to bite our nails next few weeks and see what's what.

Edit: Hey, maybe tonight's game is big. Turned 9-1 and 11-2 leads into 11-5 and now 11-7. The Braves bullpen is the Gift that keeps on giving (to other teams.) This is terrible.

Edit2: Kendrick doubles to center, Jackson's on fire!

Edit3: "Anatomy of a bullpen meltdown" now 11-8 as Wash scores yet again. Still only 1 out in 9th. Nats have run #10 at bat, with tying run on deck.

Edit4: Gomes mercifully helps us out. 11-8 final. Bullpen ERAs took a hit (again).
Braves hang on with their fingernails to win. Won't have any left to bite this coming month. We got the one game we needed, but that was uuugly.

Soroka vs Sanchez tomorrow in an afternoon game. Sanchez beat him 5-3 on July 20 to snap his streak of 9 straight wins. Soroka may be hitting his wall. I guess we'll see; and if any help is on the way.

well 8 hours to the deadline. I think the huge question -the Giants. They've all of a sudden lost 3 of 5 and 2.5 out of the wild card. Kind of their run has fizzled out a bit.

I continue to be confused by the direction the Reds are taking. During the offseason they traded two solid prospects to the Dodgers for a couple rentals, plus Matt Kemp. Naturally, a bad 2018 team became nothing more than a mediocre 2019 team. So instead of learning a lesson and waiting for the right time to strike, they trade another talented young player - Taylor Trammell - for 1 year + 2 months of Bauer. And yes, even with Roark and Wood departing as FA, next year's rotation will be nasty. But it's just one year. I don't mind going for it, but not for a guy with one year left on his contract. If I'm trading Trammell and Puig, it's for someone with more control.

Honestly, I no longer care about the prospects or draft picks. I'm just sick of all the Giants fans acting like we're so good. This run was fun and I joked that we were coming for the top WC, but one look at this lineup and rotation will tell you all you need to know.
looks like maybe SF will sell...

Sounds like they're not getting any convincing offers. I'd hate to lose Bumgarner for nothing.

My guess is Zaidi's been here all along but was playing up the "winning streak changes the calculus" angle to see how much leverage he had. That a deal didn't get done tells me not much. But it seems unlikely he'd trade somebody like Bumgarner for peanuts.
Listening to Dbacks GM Mike Hazen on the radio this morning, he is open to trades, but the return has to be good, MLB ready players. No trades for A/AA prospects (maybe an exception for a player on the last year of the contract like Dyson or Avila).

But Ray/Greinke etc aren't being moved unless it improves the team next year.

I don't understand these GMs. If you trade Greinke/Ray, your team is only going to be worse next year.
Saw Nats got Daniel Hudson from Toronto.

yep.

Gave up for Hudson a 22 yr old in A ball right now. #27 prospect on the Nats preseason MLB list.

Haven't seen the return for Elias as of yet.
Nats are screwed. They get Hunter Strickland........

Thought we were trying to upgrade?
