(10-29-2018 04:23 PM)Punk Wrote: [ -> ]Even VCU is selling beer at basketball games this year, really wish ODU could find a way to do it for football in the new stadium. It keeps people from watching from ground level endzone (Blue Room) and cuts down on last minute binging/bringing alcohol into the stadium. The big plus would be the extra revenue.

They want people to donate to be able to drink. But yes im with you.

Yeah, I get that, but I bet there's more money in the revenue selling beer than what they are getting from donors that want to drink ground level in an endzone during a game.

Damn, I also just saw that Richmond is going to be selling beer at basketball games this year too. Can't wait to check that out on Dec 19th!

I'd have to go back and find my post from last year, but when I spoke to Chris Schaefer about selling beer last year, he said ODU would get no money from that as all the revenue would go to Aramark. This is why its all run through donations. I believe our contract through Aramark currently runs through 6/30/2025. So unless we can renegotiate our contract with them, it will be a no go until then at least.
What a bad deal!

New seating article from HM

"A seating plan for the stadium won’t be finalized until January."

Oh.

EDIT: Does this mean we won't see finalized stadium plans until two months after construction begins?

Oh.

We have heard a lot of things regarding the North Endzone here, and it is getting hard to separate conjecture from facts. Can you provide the facts, as you know them, surrounding the North Endzone and what the actual options on the table for next season are? Thanks!

Edit: Hope this didn't come of as snarky. It is not intended to be.

Fact...nothing is planned for the North endzone currently in phase 1. No move of the scoreboard either. However there is a growing desire to remove the north end zone bleachers and create a raised events venue for students and place the New scoreboard / entertainment system above that venue. The last I hear the cost for that entire project was about $2.5M. The new scoreboard is in the current funding plan but the relocation is not.

Mr BigBlue knows what's up. I'll add that the NEZ bleachers need to be repaired to remain safe and up to code after this season. So that is helping drive this discussion.

Now, it would be cheaper to just repair it. But I think the product will be much better under this plan.

I was told if it does happen, it will be after the 2019 season.

Really curious to see what happens with all of this

Does this mean we'll see a new scoreboard next year but in the same place??

If they decide to move forward with this plan, they'll delay getting the new scoreboard until after the 2019 season. This plan allows for a bigger and better located board than what we would have in the corner.

Maybe they'll figure out a way to get it all done this off-season. Unlikely. But maybe. I can assure you the staff is working a lot of different angles to make this the best stadium they can within their financial and political constraints.

Very likely. My hope is they figure out a way to do the new scoreboard and move it this year. This would be a huge improvement and a real benefit to most everyone that attends the games. I think of it this way....you spend huge $s to renovate your entire house and leave the 1990's entertainment system in place.

That would be fantastic to get the board in the new spot, especially since the cost to tear down the bleachers is nominal. Hope it happens. Just wish we could get the decking built this summer too.
Will all these decisions about the north endzone and scoreboard be made before constructions starts or sometime over the next year? Im guessing the latter.

When they say decking, are we talking about like a wood deck that is elevated, or something else?

IDK, All I know is they said it would be a raised event space with covered seating benches and a stage area.
What is the percentage that we get a new scoreboard for next year?
Sounds unique to me... Sounds like we will end up with a nice product if we are patient.
