Maybe that guy on Facebook will finally stop offering his services to trim the hedges.

I would be willing to bet that this story is missing a lot of facts.

Always easy to take facts from an anonymous message board and run with it. I mean, posters have all the knowledge, skillsets, and vision without any risk of losing personal income, losing money against ODU's budget, running into compliance issues, or anything. It's awesome.

True. I personally wouldn't have believed it had it not been an ODU alum posting it on our forum with the information from another ODU alum being his superior. There are always risks and I personally don't want to act like I know all the risks that comes with that decision because I don't but to a third/fourth person reading OP's input it's easy to assume it's rather easy to perceive it as stupidity when you have someone in the middle facilitating it. Again not everyone in that communication channel might have all the info but to say "No thanks" instead of we will consider it says something. Doesn't it?
It tells me that it quickly hit on something that makes it problematic, and rather than giving false hope, it was denied.

With the stuff that is going on at just about every college campus these days, I think that its possible that the Admin is trying to limit connection to the military as much as possible, or to put it another way, trying to not go overboard I would bet that people have complained about military flyovers (That's an easy bet because I know it has happened). Also, the howitzer is a bigger issue than many realize, and for the life of me, I can't figure out how we still have it, but happy we do.

I have absolutely no idea what the actual reason is (but I can probably find out in time), but I think there is a very good chance that there is an explanation behind this, whether we think it is a good or bad one.

The last 13 years or so have been full of very difficult decisions by the school and athletic department. Probably 10 times the number of all the previous years combined. Big decisions like football, FBS, conference, Title IX compliance, facility upgrades, where the new football stadium should go, etc. to smaller ones like seating prices, parking, tailgate rules, etc. The 13 years prior was a piece of cake compared to the most recent 13 years. They probably have PTSD.

You could ask Dabigblue he worked with me at the yard then. He saw all the emails - I forwarded him all my conversations with our VP and those from ODU. I have left nothing of consequence out. If something went on at ODU in their discussions I would have no insight at all. But hey this is America you can believe anything you want.

As to your other comment. This was 4+ years ago long before these “troubled” times and people distancing themselves from the military as you say...

Absolutely. I wouldn't consider the pre-FB 13 yr period a piece of cake but i get what you are driving at when compared to the later. It would be great if you can find out what caused the AD to say no to this bell idea. The idea of alienating ourselves from Military is a head scratcher to me, I personally believe they are part and parcel of society(although a part with problems just like any other entity), a part of society that took the oath to protect and serve us to which our dads, moms, wives, husbands, sons and daughters etc belong to. Why not use something that is lying unused paid and made from tax dollars. I get that not everyone approves risk taking ideas but come on where would be man with out them. Please do find out why the bell idea was a non-starter though. 04-cheers
Are they going to put up the ODU banners to cover the exposed areas of the stadium like in the earlier photos?

My guess is no but not sure

I would hope so. It really helps the exterior aesthetics of the stadium IMO and the price can't be too prohibitive (I'm guessing). I'd think that'd be one of the last things to go up, you don't want construction dust and what not covering them.

This is a good question for Ed Miller or Harry to research

I hope so too. They can really cover up that exposed underbelly and would do that job cheaper compared to any other temporary aesthetic choices we have at this point.
If any banners go up it will be one of the last things that go on as it doesn't affect substantial or drive work, plus if they need to get under there for any potential work it's best to leave it uncovered until they're fully done anyways. There may still be punchlist and QC'ing going on around the stadium, but who knows
I hope so. They add so much to the look of the stadium. Like icing on the cake.
Wonder when the signage on the press box will get installed.

I am informed they will go up in time for the second game.
I went by there today and it really looks impressive. I can't believe the amount of work that has taken place since I picked my seats. The banners will certainly add a finishing touch to the whole stadium and if not up the first game should be up by the ECU game. The North End Zone does look a little bit out of place, but hey maybe that will be corrected sooner than later. Bring on some football.

4 or 5 years from now for the NEZ.

You think that long?

Yes because from what I have been told there are 3 main drivers. 1) A design will have to be generated that minimizes impacts to buildings around the NEZ and possibly involve some demo 2) The NEZ Reno will have to be totally privately funded. 3) construction and moving the scoreboard. That will not be anytime soon.
