I assume weapons. But it could be booze. I know they have this policy at NFL games. It sucks there too. Hope this doesnt deter fans.

It's security theater at its finest. Any male can easily walk into the game with weapons and booze tucked away with no bag. These rules are just silly, and I can't believe we, as a society, keep thinking they make us any safer.

Implementing a no diaper bag policy should be a huge crowd pleaser. Tell just about any mom out there that they have to unpack their diaper bag and repack a clear bag for a 3 hour game...only to have to unpack the clear bag and repack the diaper bag.

Well she will be glad that ODU is one of the last to implement this policy and you should have told her to enjoy her diaper bag while she had the chance. Pretty much every stadium in the country has this policy.

Interesting. In the last 7.5 years, my wife and I've been to at least 10 different stadiums WITH a diaper bag and never had any problems.

Geez. And I thought my son was taking a long time to become potty trained.

Of course they don't make us safer. But they do help the lines move faster, which brings value on its' own.

There is something to be said for these policies in preventing scale of disaster. Yeah, someone can still sneak weapons, but the potential of death and damage can be limited with these policies.
I'll respectfully disagree with both of you on this one. I think it creates unnecessary lines and makes us exactly 0% safer. But, oh well.
When I go the NASCAR events, the clear bag policies have made entry so much easier. I don't drink and actually want to see the event, one less dude with illicit booze works for me.
What about students who come straight from class? Especially when there is a Friday game?

Right on point ! I will add that guns are not the issue. It is the person. 100% gun control and inspections at the Garlic festival and a BAD guy with a gun still got in and killed. It is not the guns. As a matter of fact...when a bad guy knows good guys don't have guns they know they can take advantage of people. Just look at the 7-11 incident in Va. Beach last week. A good guy with a gun saved the day. Suppose they had clear bag or inspection policy. What do you think would have happened ?

They were checking bags before this. The only difference is this will make it faster for them to search bags. How does that not make lines move faster?

I'm not even going to get into the politics of it. I just thought it was silly for them to be checking bags before. I walked right in. Could have brought all the airplane bottles I wanted in my pockets. Meanwhile, I had to wait for my wife to get her purse checked. Dumb.
I'm gonna have to ask to please refrain from using the recent shooting as a point in talking about stadium security. I'd rather you all save the mods from unnecessary and thankless work.

Getting a clear bag isn't difficult. This shouldn't stop those of you who sneak booze to continue sneaking booze. And as others have mentioned, this just bringing odu into the modern world of security. You can hate it all you want, but this is the direction most stadiums have already taken.
They do this at Heinz Field. Nothing to see here....

I haven't mentioned politics once. They do it everywhere. Why? It's not security. It's to lower their insurance liability. So if you want to complain about anything, complain about actuaries.
Are there express entry points for fans who don't have bags to check? If not, they should have them ..... fan experience

I'm not sure what the point is of bringing a clear bag with you. This is nowhere near a NASCAR style policy.

They have had this in the past, so yes probably.

Wondering if they're also taking the opportunity to install metal detectors. Liberty had full on security protocol with metal detectors, bag search, etc. Think NC State and Maryland were the same.

Agreed. I never carry a bag and I walk right through. I don’t sneak anything in but I could easily just put things in my pockets (especially when it’s cold and I’m wearing a winter coat). This policy is silly.
I have never been to a stadium with a "no personal seatbacks" policy.
I will say the ones with armrests are annoying at Lane, but just the seatbacks?

It's related to safety, but it's more about lawsuit protection. Without a policy in place, they are defenseless.

It's another example of the few making life miserable for the many. It's why we have laws and rules throughout society. Some humans are flawed, therefore we all must make sacrifices. Meanwhile, another lawyer buys a Mercedes.

I wonder if any nefarious plan has ever been subverted due to a clear bag policy. #securitytheater
