Ya there is no way it's concrete with that schedule. At least I can't imagine. But then again I watched them build the new district 9 in town center with post-tension concrete damn fast.

Posted from mobile device. Hopefully it's coherent.

I can take exposed underside if it's concrete. That's the way ECU's stadium is and it's fine. What I don't want and you can't tell materials from the renderings is aluminum construction like FAU's stadium, Richmond International Raceway, and our current endzone. The aluminum looks cheap and has a weird sound coming off of it. And if you are walking underneath it, it's disgusting when people above spill their beverages and it drips down through the gaps.

Has to be concrete. Unfortunately with the extremely aggressive construction schedule, I get the gut feel that it's all aluminum decking. Hope I'm wrong.03-puke

This is a good point. The upper concourse is below the upper deck. Nobody will want to be there if it’s raining spilled popcorn and soda below. Hopefully there is a way to seal it up good. Concrete feels safer and higher quality too, but like you all, I’m not expecting it.
looking at phase 1 renderings, I don’t see where any new suites would go in future phases. I loved the previous design suites. I wonder if theyll build suites on the endzone on the other side of the gameday building.

I was thinking the same.

I think there is room for suites under the press box level on the west side. If I recall from previous renderings, that is where they were intended to go in phase 2.
Anyone else notice the ribbon video board around the rim between the lower and upper decks? If they're doing that like the TED, maybe they'll go ahead and update the scoreboard as well while they're at it. One can only hope!

The more I keep looking at the pictures, the more I get excited. Maybe it's the "just be happy we're finally getting something" taking over from my initial disappointment, but I think it's going to be a good looking structure once all is said and done.
I saw the banner and they made mention of it. Probably why they're waiting to do new scoreboard over North end zone all at once. I imagine it'll be mounted on that structure.

04-cheers let's hope Wood's lives up to this promise
Hopefully the design helps shield the visitor/east side from the sun. It’s painful to sit on that side of the stadium for an afternoon game.

Yea, ODU don't care about the sun on the visitor side if they did they would allow us to sit on the home side for spring games. The spring game is turning into my annual first sunburn of the year day. 04-cheers

I will give kudos to whoever supplied the unlimited free drinks at the spring game! That was great!!! I would have donated if there was a donation jar.

04-cheers I was sitting on the east side for Heinicke’s epic game against New Hampshire. It was an amazing game - but it was hot as heck and I definitely got sunburned that day. It was satisfying, although dehydrating:)
Anyone get any additional stadium information from the ODAF event last night?

We had three under three with us and had to watch the second half from O'Sullivans (RIP).

Loved the game. Was already in the dog house for skipping my cousins wedding for the game. Halfway through the game I was debating if I should haul @$$ to Franklin to save myself family troubles. Glad I stayed to witness history and earn sunburn blistering earlobes for weeks after the game!

Imagine being on the turf for that game, I was cheering and it was probably the hottest game I cheered for. The heat from the turf made it much worse and I had the worst farmers tan imaginable lol. I remember feeling completely drained afterwards. I can't imagine how the players felt
On the anniversary of the game I posted the CBS headline about the game on Twitter. I commented on the post that after that game I felt like I had been waterboarded. Heinicke liked the comment.
Thought this little tidbit was interesting in the "This Week In History" column of the Pilot:

1968 - The Norfolk City Council authorizes a study of the feasibility of building a stadium to replace Foreman Field in the mid-1970s. The city leases the 26,000-seat stadium from Old Dominion College on a 25-year lease that expires in 1974. Most expect the lease not to be renewed, and Foreman Field likely to be torn down for ODC campus expansion. Last month, Norfolk Mayor Roy B. Martin Jr. disclosed that the city had selected a tentative stadium site between Military Highway and Interstate 64 north of Northampton Boulevard.

More or less where Met Park was built it sounds like. Honestly, this idea probably turned into Met Park.

That's exactly where it sounds like. Maybe ODU decided not to tear it down (obviously) and the City decided to put the ball field there. Met Park was built in 1969 so the timeline adds up.
