So we should wait 100 years before we can dream of being at their level? got it. It was never about how long you have been around its about what you did in that time FRAME to realize your potential and what goals you have set yourself and what you did to achieve them. You can make excuses anytime and for example UCF/USF twins can simply say yeah we haven't been around that longer why set ourselves ridiculous expectations and compete with them but instead they went and did what most G5's weren't able to. Some of the fans are ******* unbelievable and with the current life expectancy most of us won't be around for wishing to see ODU in its glory as we might not be there when it finally happens if they proceed at current pace not that we want to play in the Access Bowl yesterday.

That contagious dream of "Aim High" escalated all our expatiations. The Administration seemed to fuel our vision of what we had to look forward to in the future. In fact it was not only a local anticipation of great things to come, but we were receiving national attention about our meteoric skyrocketing of a program destined for greatness, and we had a President and AD that seemed to want and desire that as well. Everyone was on board and fundraising was soaring and the next think we know is that the University has plans to move us to that next level and they were saying all the right things at that time. A new stadium with all the bells and whistles.

What happen to President Broderick and Wood Selig that had a vision that made us all so PROUD to bleed blue. However, they have more than dampened the hopes and aspirations of the fans and the loyal Alumni that have support ODU over many years. I do feel betrayed, especially after attending the inaugural event to announce the renovation and re-build of Forman Field with a beautiful presentation of Hope for our future. Yes, maybe Less in capacity than what we all wanted and many felt we would need very quickly to have the program continue to grow and influence recruits, but we still felt the dream was finally on track. It appears now it was just another time the University has betrayed the loyal supporters of ODU Sports. I'm sad to say I have lost faith in President Broderick and Wood Selige, but love my University and will always support, unfortunately my respect for those in control of our destiny will never be restored.

I'm as frustrated as everyone by this but I would say the Cox bill and the drastic drop in anticipated revenue from the conference due to TV money drying up have tied their hands greatly. I don't expect that we would see a 35K seat stadium being built but i would like to think our budget would at least be closer to $75 million than $55 million.
It's disappointing for sure, but I don't think the admin is any happier about than we are. It's just a perfect storm of financial hits in quick succession:

1. TV money from CUSA evaporated before we got a piece of it.
2. Cox bill cut 15 -20% of the total athletic budget.
3. Had to pay "total cost" to scholarships. Not a huge hit but it didn't help.
4. Construction cost rising to stupid levels.

All of which I don't know what anyone could have done about. Yeah it sucks to go from 30,000 to a new set of bleachers; but I don't think the admin is being purposefully mediocre.

I don't think it's purposeful either, but somebody dropped the ball somewhere.

JMU is getting ready to build an $80 million basketball arena. Surely we should be able to put that much into a football stadium.
Do you know where the money is coming from for them to build this? I don't. We may be talking apples and oranges here.

Not sure. It certainly hasn't come from success on the court.

But they did manage to raise it. Someone at ODU needs to get on the ball. We're FBS. We need an FBS stadium (or at least one that would compete with state FCS schools.)

It could have something to do with the fact that the person who wrote the bill (Cox) is a JMU grad and grandfathered in any projects which had already been approved so they didn't count against the athletic budget requirements.
The constant delays lead to frustration. I think we can all agree on that. I will hold off on any speculation until we see the actual plan. But at this point it’s past ridiculous how poorly this situation was handled in terms of communication.
i wonder if the administrations refusal to rename the football stadium is hindering a mega donor(alas ted constant) from giving a big gift to build the stadium or if we have any donors of those means anymore.

Our stadium would have been grandfathered in if the admin had worked faster. They didnt. Some would describe that as "dropping the ball". This stadium thing looks like a comedy of errors at this point. Again, we don't know for certain, but all indications are looking ugly. I'll try to hope for the best until we see the final plan.

The above is an article about the new tax law's affect on college athletics. Basically, ODAF contributions are no longer tax deductible. UVA was smart and sent all of their donors notification and said if they paid before the end of 2017 their contribution would be tax deductible, AND they could pay now for years to come. Had ODU done that, they probably would have received and influx of cash that could have immediately been used toward the stadium. Of course that means we would have a bit less money down the road, but we needed the cash now. Not sure why our guys didnt think of that.

Ballard may not want his name on this after he sees what they come up with. My hope is since he's involved, the fact that his name is on it will inspire him to make sure its a great stadium.
wish he would give us the Ballard hook up!
Ballard don't put out no weak sauce... we're in good hands 04-bow

Nobody said anything about waiting 100 years. Y'all must have expected a six figure salary and a corner office six months after graduating, too.

I agree with you 100% Oldtimer. I wrote in an earlier post on this thread that the lack of leadership and vision at ODU is very sad. Our leaders don't seem to have either. If they did at some point, it has disappeared. If President Runte was still here, she would find a way to get things done. Again, so sad.

+ I think you are right.
Our new stadium would make a perfect site for the Military Bowl every year, which is why I think they need at least 25K seats to begin with.
Any chance no news is good news on the stadium front? Maybe the powers that be realized they were going to have a disaster on their hands if the plan was lackluster and went back to the drawing board and donor pool to get something good for the team and fans. Though with signing day coming up, if its good, soon would be the right time to make it public.

I have a feeling it will be right before or right after signing day. If they feel so bad about it that they don't feel like there is a way to spin it as a positive, it would make sense to go after. If they think they can create a little buzz, then right before makes sense, but not too far before, because you don't want to give folks like us a chance to tear it apart between the release date and signing day. If they think it is actually really exciting, I would expect to see something about a week before signing day to give it time to build some momentum.
