Got to offer them to sign 'em.

But my excitement will come when we win recruiting battles versus our peers.
Yeah obviously seeing commits is more exciting, but still encouraging to see how high Cig and his staff are aiming with some of these guys. We probably won't land the guys with a bunch of ACC/SEC/B1G offers often, but it's very possible to snatch up one of those guys occasionally. Look at guys like this and the offers he had, this guy, this guy, or this guy. Definitely like seeing the offers that we can keep an eye on to possibly land some really exciting commits.

His reputation is criminally low.
I really like Ty Gordon, looks like a stud in his highlights. I’m getting Mike Greene vibes!
Let's be real...even if we had offered guys like this a couple years ago, no way they'd be taking the time to post on Twitter about it. Some of these guys wouldn't have taken a visit or even had an official phone call. I mean, if you get an offer from Oklahoma, ND, Penn State, Wisconsin, etc...you're not likely to take the time to worry with an FCS team. That's where moving up to FBS and especially the soon-to-be best G5 conference.

Just need to get the first big name to commit. After that, it'll get much easier. A good WR or RB wants a good QB and vice versa. All of them want a good OL. LBs want a good DL or secondary to make their job easier. Will definitely make commitment season more interesting.

Going to be a big weekend in the burg. Hosting our first Junior Day and by the looks of things on Twitter there will be a lot of highly rated players there. Hopefully we come out of the weekend with our first commit.

We already have commitments, I just think they’ve all been PWO.

Those PWOs are for the 2022 class, the kids coming to campus are Juniors so they are in the 2023 class. No junior is going to commit as a PWO as they hold out hope their senior year gets them a scholarship.

Yep. You’re right. I wasn’t thinking there for a second. Haha

Welcome to the big time. Recruiting at the FBS level is completely different. Player flips, decommittments, and rating adjustments. There will be a lot of untold reasons why things happen the way they do. Your recruiting staff is going to earn there money from here on out.

And any commitment that you get this week likely will end up somewhere else. It’s science.

You do realize there isn’t some magical barrier where everything is completely different in FBS?

Everything you just mentioned is something JMU has dealt with for the entire 50 year history of their football program. We’ll be just fine.

Any fan thinking we’re some bottom dweller just by being FCS is going to be in for a rude awakening when their team gets “upset” even though we were the on paper favorite.

Easy dude. No one is thinking anything negative of your program, at least I don’t. Honestly, it’s not the fan perception that affects this bottom dweller perception that you speak of. It’s the recruits that get sold on P5 offers are the holy grail and most of them will sell their mothers to get one. Your success at the FCS level doesn’t mean Jack at the FBS level. But you transfer that success to the FBS level through talent evaluation and every college coach and recruiting staff will have a list of your offers on their board looking to see who they can go poach to fill a last minute spot. It happens a lot at the G5 level and more often at good schools.

I’m excited for your fans to experience this transition. That’s why I come over here. It’s a long time coming for the Dukes. The Belt is happy to have you. Have a great day.
The transfer portal has given us a primer of what to expect. We’re all at the mercy of the big boys, trying to feed off the table scraps. It’s one huge pyramid with a trickle down effect, getting tougher to recruit at the bottom of it. The big boys can send a letter out and their letterhead speaks volumes, but when you’re much lower in the pecking order you have to develop personal relationships with the recruits. Hoping you find that diamond in the rough the P5s didn’t unearth, hoping he performs well enough that you’ll get a good one, yet not well enough his profile takes off and gets poached at the last minute. Verbals mean nothing until pen hits paper on signing day. And yes, these coaches will be earning their money, but not really doing much different than they have already been doing to get FBS talent to an FCS program. We’ll be ok.

This sums it up nicely. I’m not a fan of the ratings as App does well with guys that have potential. App had a guy locked up for 6 months. He was a low two star. The week after his final high school game, Georgia came in, then Auburn. He flipped to Auburn two weeks before signing day. We lost a long time commit two days before signing day this year because his “Dream School” offered. We at the G5 level just can’t compete with that consistently. On occasion you win. We beat Va Tech for a guy because Fuentes trashed App on a call with the kid. Relationships are extremely important, but they aren’t always enough.
