OK…I never give too much credence in to these early commitments and perk up once pen hits paper on signing day. Until then it just gives the big boys longer to poach your commits. Few guys will stay committed once the bigger caliber programs come calling. Im guessing this kid might have looked at the other commits coming in and didn’t want the competition.
I always wonder what kind of scholarship package out of state recruits got in comparison to in-state recruits when it comes to offsetting the costs of out of state Tuition. A quarter scholarship offer for instate students may be better financially than a half scholarship offer for out of state students.

Coaches have also had bonuses in their contracts to sign more in state recruits, presumably due to the cheaper cost of a scholarship.

May see him in one to two years. NC State must be tracking him hard and convincing him to come. Agreed on not worrying till paper is signed.

I'll assume he quit as he didn't record a stat for the rest of the season. So if I have this right its: 2017 - season ending injury; 2018 - played; 2019 - season ending injury; 2020 - quit.

We return 70% of our RB rushing yards, including 4 guys with more eligibility left and all 4 have rushed for more yards than he has over the past 18 months.

He did not quit, URI did. I'll leave it at that.

Kid went to the HS in my town and is uber talented player. For some reason URI decided to make him a defensive player his freshman year when he did not really play D in HS. Had pretty good success as a running back when not injured and have no idea how much he contributes at JMU, but Cignetti brought him in for a reason.

Yeah I mean we can play chicken or the egg (and mine is obv just speculation) but it's clear a freshman out played him on the field so whatever politics may have been there prior to that point didn't really matter then, or now.

I certainly hope he contributes, but I really just hope bringing him in for a 7th year victory lap doesn't change any dynamics in the RB room. We got 4 guys with plenty of years left to give to JMU and having their limited snaps split one more way could force one out. I think I can safely assume HCCC considered this though and doesn't believe it will be an issue.

Sometimes guys get lost in the shuffle of coaching staffs and passed over when they weren’t the new guys recruit; but the same coach has been there for years and would’ve recruited him. Right or wrong, the coach saw a better fit for the team to put him on D, perhaps too many RBs and wanted his abilities on the field in any way they could get there. I played against a guy that was a phenomenal RB but got bumped to D for the same reasons, loaded RB room and too much ability to not see the field, he had the ability to play D while others were strictly RB types. In the end the guy played in the NFL for years and was a 1000 yard rusher more than once. If the talent is there it will come out, just hope as a redshirt-redshirt-redshirt-senior he’s a good influence in the room.07-coffee3

Speaking broadly, and not specific to Bryant, but the HS QB/RB to a different position in D1 is not unusual / even common, especially at the FCS level and even more so for guys coming from smaller schools.

Breaking down the scholarship players my freshman year: 15 total and 7 played either QB or RB in high school. Take out the kicker and punter and it was 7 of 13. Take out the 3 lineman and it was 7 of the 10 skilled players played QB or RB in HS. Only 1 of those 7 got time at QB/RB at JMU.

Thinking about recent JMU players in the NFL that were ex-HS QB/RB: Josh Wells (QB - OT), Rashard Davis (QB - WR), Daniel Brown (QB - WR), Raven Green (RB/WR to S), Dean Marlowe (QB - S).
Yeah that applies to many sports too. When you look at baseball, of those guys who make it to the MLB and MiLB, more than 75% were either a pitcher or shortstop in the youth and HS levels because the best athletes and most skilled players tended to be in those positions.

Most of the best soccer players were probably either a striker or center mid at the youth level then switched to the wings or defense later on.

Pitchers and shortstops in youth ball... #Coach'sKids!!!

As MM said, so correctly, I may add. I would rather have 212 pounds on the tackle, than 245 on the way.
