What's with the mom trying to talk to walker principle..After having seen the debacle with cal? seemed a bit lame. She even told daughter to stay away from boyfriend..But she's willing to get up close to a clearly infected principle?
I wanted to see a little more of society collapsing and a little less of heroin addict on the couch going through withdrawals.
Wonder what's up with the mom keeping so many pills? Is she a drug addict as well? Nice to see some emotion from her this episode.

I think last nights episode was definitely better than the first.
Don't get the mom and don't like her so far but she was better this episode. Like you said her thought process with the principal was flawed after her reasoning with the boyfriend was spot on.
Yes there was a lot about the druggie but we got some good society collapsing with Nick and having to hide in the barber shop because of the riots and looters. I'm sure we will see plenty of that next week.
Pretty sure the mom was keeping those pills. She had to use a crow bar to get into the cabinet so I'm assuming that was the nurses office or something. She had to go to her office to get Tobias' knife and she didn't need a crowbar to get it.
Last thought. I can already see they are going to play up the drama between Nick's old family a new family. He already got trapped in a different part of town with his ex-wife and son leaving his new GF or whatever she is and her two kids alone. Pretty sure they are going to play off that family dynamic for as long as we follow these characters.

Until she took the extra pills, I'd assumed that it might be the father that was an addict, but I'm now guessing that she's the reformed addict worried that she might revert back to old self.

Nice observation, I remember her saying that now you've mentioned it.
Also, apparently in the episode there was an airplane that flew over head. There's going to be a 30 minute webisode broken into pieces about that airplane and a someone on that plane, unknown at this time, is going to join the cast of FTWD in season 2

I didn't hear the line about genetics and batting 500. That's the downside of watching while trying to get 2 14 month olds fed and asleep. Did she take extra pills though. Later in the episode she said she had enough to get him to the desert and start weening him off or something similar. He was already having withdrawls less than 2 days after the church so i've got to imagine he would need a decent amount of drugs to get him to the desert and weened but that's just an opinion from someone who has no idea what he's talking about when it comes to this stuff lol.

Yes, the extra pills would most likely be mostly for him but there was just something about the way she did things that made me think that it was more than just for her son. I can't really explain it but I kept getting a feeling, after she mentioned genetics, that there was more to the story.

That's how I interpreted it as well. 2 kids, 1's an addict.

I imagine they showed her hiding the pills so that her son wouldn't find them and abuse them and consume them all in weakness.

My mistake. It was the pilot episode, not last night's episode, where she had the conversation about genetics. Here's the text:

That was said by that guy who dug all the graves and was bit in the first season and they left him to die under a tree. He was talking to Rick. Can't remember the exact episode but it was the first half of the season. I could probably cheat and google it. LOL

Nice...yeah it was Jim. It was actually the episode before finale in season 1, remember it was only 6 that season

I think some people are looking at this show from a different view than the way it's suppose to develop. If you have never seen anything like this before I would think think...is this really real. Even after seeing it up close. As for the mom keeping her daughter away from the boyfriend that's just being a mother. A mother is more protective of her child than she is for herself. Her job at the school is to help people so of course her first reaction would be to help her friend. While she seen it first hand I really doubt anyone would know how to react at first. Especially since the guy didn't have any visible injuries. Well other than the eyes, walk, talk/grunt so the first reaction should be to help your coworker/friend/boss.

Anyone that's dealt with a serious drug habit knows withdraws are awful and going cold turkey shuts a persons body down for weeks. The mother has seen it before and knows her son needs to be able to function at some level. I'm with Apollo, the mother or father was a former drug addict...with her saying it was her fault leads me to believe it was the mother. But with no mention of the farther it's clear he's not in the picture so that would be a very good reason why.

I rather see this develop and get to know each of them before jumping right into full blown self preservation. Also it needs to go slow because everyone watching hasn't watched The Walking Dead. So they must draw the new viewers in on a back story

You must have missed all that blood running down the principal's back when we saw him from the hallway before he turned around and came out through the doors. That dude definitely had red all over his back, it was pretty quick though but definitely there.

Between the dude on the off ramp, what nick said happened at the church, the cal adventure with the car...I'da given approximately -2 hoots in hell about the principal and woulda' been the hell outta there! And damn, they didn't appear to even make it out with all that food after that, shame.

I don't care which show addresses this, but I hope at some point they talk about what the virus is, how it is/was spread, where did it come from, natural or man-made, is a cure possible so people won't turn after they die...

I know they were at the CDC several season's ago, but all that really came of that was that everybody carries it.

I was hoping that in this show they would illustrate that a first wave of victims died from the virus right off the bat and that provided the initial wave of walkers. I love the shows but I have never bought that people turning into zombies only after being bitten or dying of some other cause would overwhelm society. An initial wave of deaths by the virus supplying a large supply of zombies within a few days WOULD overwhelm however.

I've wondered the same thing about how it could so quickly overwhelm a society but then when you think about it, it's feasible.

For instance, currently, in a typical week approximately 50,000 Americans die from natural and unnatural causes and they're spread out from coast to coast, in rural and urban areas. If this virus was only concentrated in one city, it's possible to contain it but since people die everywhere and they'd become zombies, it's very likely that they'd bite or kill others who'd then die and become zombies, which would grow the totals exponentially. Add in how quickly hospitals would be overwhelmed with their normal workload and now the addition of all the people being sick or bitten, and now you've got choas spreading quickly, resulting in some of what we've already seen in this new show....riots, uncertainty, fear, etc.
