Btw, that article above cites an ACC coach who says essentially what I have been saying all week.

Said an ACC coach: "There's no education on how we are allowed to handle this, or at least the education that's been given is awful. The way the rules are designed right now make zero sense."

Sure it’s a grey area but here is a million if you sign with us is not the same as, we have X amount of NIL money to distribute to the team, or we have sponsors that will pay 7 figures in nil for highly ranked players and aren’t you top 10? ~wink wink~, or these are what past players have gotten and you can expect similar. Same effect with both? Yes. Are you essentially buying the player? Yes. But it’s not the same thing as far as “illegal”.

its not that grey, i didnt want to drag out the conversation so i didn't mention it earlier, but cbs sports did a full article on NIL recruiting yesterday, with close to 20 coaches as sources (anonymously).. they note that certain teams are just straight abusing the system, mostly focused around miami but wichita and memphis are lightly mentioned. they tie kendric davis in as a player they know (among others) was a NIL player.. as the players tell other schools the offers they got in an attempt to get other schools to out bid them

the coaches think regulation is coming, this isn't sustainable ..and schools like miami who are obviously skirting the rules better hope the implementation isn't retroactive

side note the article points to Oscar Tshiebwe as good NIL, oscar doesn't have a 2mil pay for play deal .. he was told he is marketable and "could" make 2mil if he came back from legitimate sponsorship as the NPOY

I wouldn't describe that as "Wichita lightly mentioned."

Lol
Man, I don't think Ludgy will be in the starting lineup, I hope not at least. Schwartz allegedly likes him for the defense he runs though.
My take at ECU's lineup would probably be

Walker
Tabbs
Bayela
Diboundje
Ausur/Jones/Johnson

smu is the most interesting ..they have good players at risk of portal (bandoumel & nutall).. and also a ton of not great players that it would benefit smu to put in the portal.
only 2 ships but zero 4s on roster, no touted centers.. and about 3 scholarship guards that arent expected to be major impacts

top 50 2023 hs recruit rayvon griffith is committing today (cincy), elon transfer mcintosh is committing today (woichita).. so today should be interesting

Note of clarity .. players have until today to submit paperwork to the school to notify them but the school has I think 48 hours to put them in the portal officially. So could be Monday or Tuesday before it's all final.

Even then they can still transfer but would need a waiver for eligibility which may not be that hard to get.

Also McIntosh is expected to go to Nevada now that we signed another guard last night.

i put ludgy as a starter as literally the only player on your roster with any legtimate recent experience

--Walker - deep bench last year, minutes but zero production as a true fresh, injured senior yr of hs
--Tabbs - hasnt played ina 1.5 years
--Bayela - hasnt played in 1.5 years
--Diboundje - deep bench at tennesse, limited games in a college prep league the year before
--Ausur (true fresh)/Jones (true fresh)/Johnson

and if your going the 4 guards i think lacount would start over walker ...
walker has zero history of major offensive production .. no one but tabbs has offense creation besides lacount...i think he'll use lacount like Zakai Zeigler

jones is 6'8 but weighs less than our pg he isnt seeing any time at the 5..especially paired with 4 guards
ausar could play 5 but takes away the one notable thing about him, his selling point to people high on his is defensive ability and a very switchable 4 (can stay on guards).. put him at the 5 and he is just an undersized 5, where having fast feet is meaningless

between his adavantage his height, weight, age and experience.. then add the weird french connection, ill be shocked if he isnt starting...johnson is the real competition tho
for the most part the aac offseason has been disappointing.. memphis is expected to have a bunch of big pickups at some point but overall really "meh"

im kinda hoping we find a way to sneak in a couple more guys like this

collins who just entered the portal, might be overlooked by the big teams because he was deep bench at Michigan but would likely jalen cook if he came into an aac team {is likely 1st/2nd team all conference on a aac teams not named houston/memphis)

outside of davis/nolley already aac players... every other transfer are likely just role players, no big time potential

Iowa State transfer Xavier Foster has committed to SMU, he tells @On3sports.

Former four-star prospect who did not play during the 2021-22 season.
that's a really good pick on the basketball front for SMU..
they should be down to 1 ship (assuming band is back)...if smu could find a way to lose some deep bench players they could be really good

they have no true 4 on roster..no true pgs...they are playing 4 guards lineups (with tall guards) with the current roster.. adding a pf/a touted pg and id really like their roster

-----------------------------
side note about the NIL stuff, looks like duke and kentucky are refusing to do guaranteed NIL deals (That are disguised pay for play)..they are telling recruits that playing for duke and kentucky will make you a national name, that wil lget you brand deals, they wont do donor brand deals

Baylor Scheierman is looking for a guaranteed/Minimum amount NIL deal, and both kentucky and duke pulled out ..its mostly just rumors at this point, but the people saying the rumors are credible, and they are separate reports from duke and Kentucky saying the same thing.. note Scheierman's agent is wongs and pecks agent.. the guys in the miami situation

side note i think Baylor Scheierman is top 3 overrated transfers along with Norchad Omier and mark sears ..they are good but nowhere near the hype

Good take on SMU. LANIER is still working on a true point guard. And having a four who can get up and down the floor would be a bonus. Perhaps Todorovich becomes that guy.
As for deep bench guys on Darius McBride is totally useless. Lundblade may have potential to contribute and Agunanne is a decent bench piece.

This is shaping up as a very long, very highly touted group. Can Foster and Williamson deliver on the promise they showed coming out of high school? If so, just give us a point guard please. We ready.

Great catch.

Michigan fans are very disappointed to see him leave. Many thought he could develop into an all Big 10 PG.

If he lands anywhere in the AAC he'd automatically become a cornerstone piece towards making that team a contender.

That’s gonna hurt them a lot if that’s the way they are gonna do it. Of course someone like bates can get deals outside of his school because he already had the name. But someone like a boogie Ellis who was committed to Duke before memphis… yea they are probably gonna go to the school that tells them I’ve got 6 figures right here guaranteed
Yeah, Duke and Kentucky are such paragons of virtue that they don't have to give out NIL deals. Except they have both been paying players under the table forever. K used to bypass one and dones, until Calipari started kicking his butt, then K jumped in with both feet.

And Tscheibwe just got a rumored $2M deal. But that's okay, b/c he "earned" it. What a crock. Money is money. Without that NIL deal, Oscar would be in the draft now. Yet he's still at UK. Oscar isn't going to give anybody in Lexington $2M+ of business. What garbage.

Come to Kentucky! We're so good we don't have to do NIL deals! 03-lmfao
