players are doing visits this year, and the school semester isnt over, so they have to do it over the weekends..

no visits last year because of covid ..it will naturally take longer

That makes sense. Longer means more time for the tension to build. Could be interesting.

If there are some hidden gems and late developers among the late/spring recruits, some Coaches may opt to add more youthful players, as opposed to journeymen. Having multiple freshmen on a team and playing significant minutes isn't necessarily the liability that it was once considered to be, and younger players can be more adaptable, flexible, and energetic. Starting to question the assumption that adding 4 or 5 transfers would necessarily be best for some of these teams that need to add 4-7 players.

.
FWIW

depends on the level of transfers you are getting

4-7 "top 150" type transfers has shown to be a proven formula for immediate success.. texas, arkansas , texas tech, Auburn, and many others heavily relied on transfers (or to a lesser extent uab and smu with jank)

texas tech and arkansas have actually made it their identity

while on the other side there is no team full of underrated freshmen making the tournament.. building on freshmen is basically saying you are going for a long term rebuild

but the caution of transfers is getting touted transfers, - get star or rotation players from high majors or elite teams,& all conference players from mid major ... there are tons of cautionary tales of taking a ton of rotation players from not great mid majors ... every team that was built off middling mid major transfers were all really bad (ie. 7-9pts per transfers from 14-17 team in the ovc)
you are better served getting a 2mins per (on 5games total) transfer from a title contender than a 11pts per on 21min transfer from the MEAC
Darin Green hits the transfer portal. Sheesh this conference is going to be bad next year.

It is difficult to state with certainty, yet. The portal giveth as well as taketh.
I think the influence of NIL deals (new this year) will make a big difference. Schools (indirectly) with deep pockets will have more options, but they will also need to exercise caution to find the optimal "investment" - a tricky proposition similar to free agency in the pros.

Just my two cents.....

horrendous!!

like really bad... we've lost SOOO MUCH TALENT..

and our total commitment list:
1) an 11pt transfer from a not very good drexel
2) extreme bench Tennessee players, that wasn't a touted recruit

while i do think 2-3 teams can pick up super late great hauls, we are at a point of needing so from 10 teams, the odds don't favor that

its more than that... tons of small schools are cleaning up in the transfer portal ...the mwc is barely losing anyone but already landed major transfer, we offer more NIL money

my opinion is that the aac is poor at hiring coaches
Memphis just got a commitment from Elijah McCadden - Georgia Southern.
at this point all eyes are on memphis, theyve lost alot of talent...but they were so deep its survivable..

they were a top 3 calibur seed, that ended up a lower seed...to a team that probably should be a low seed but still making the tournament (especially with how weak the league is).... the issue is that none of the retained stars have committed to coming back

lomax, bates, deandre williams, lester quinones, dandridge are all heavily considering leaving and havent committed to returning... good news is that there is a may 1 deadline for transfers

but tulane, temple and cincy have a real chance to exploit this.. imo all are probably a legit big pickup from #3 in the league, and another touted guard transfer from 2..the oppoortunity to look better than you maybe might be to make the tournament is there

You expect Houston as #1 and then Memphis as #2 (based on what you outline above)? I think UC could have a much deeper roster than both Temple and Tulane but not sure we will have the top line talent, especially compared to Tulane. What a wild thing to type...

He is a senior.

He is a senior.

I assume he's being added as a depth piece rather than an expected starter?
uab picks up one of the best transfers available in eric gaines, who has 2 years eligibility and likely to play in the aac
UC makes top 2 with Butler for grad transfer Rob Phinisee from IU. Not a scorer in the least but good defender that would hopefully play 15-20 minutes max. Clears the deck for UC to offer everything to Isaiah Collier in 2023.

imo the short term future of UC basketball (next 4-5 years) imo will be defined over the next 3 months ..
this years transfer portal, & Collier and Rayvon Griffith (the 2 great hopes of UC basketball) will have committed by the end of summer
