Maybe 18,000 at MSG is better than 8,000 at Dickies. As for the poster that said UConn doesn't travel well? Hmmm, I've heard the chants at Madison Square Garden. That guy is flat out wrong.

lmao he literally said you guys offered PT as his only statement for picking uconn ... calm down.. ecu lost its coach, you are acting like you picked a top guy who just voluntarily left. why do uconn fans add crazy context that isnt there in every debate

and msg is down the road from uconn, why would that make a case for traveling well.. i dont think houston travels well, we basically sold out the sweet16/elite 8 and had a home edge. using San antonio tx as justification for travel is weak, similar to uconn in msg

I want to see us ALL DO WELL in spite of the 4 letter kingdom just a few miles from where I sit. I'd love to see UH and UConn facing off for the National Championship. I was at that last game in Storrs (before Covid) when UConn beat Houston. It was like the old Big East days and is what college basketball is all about. I do fear for what the next round of tv contracts and re-alignment will do to college athletics.

will be curious how your roster fills out .. ill be honest you guys dont look very good right now, but you have 5 ships and with uconn ability to recruit thats a lot of room to improve

likely decision coming next week
rojas is more forward than center at 6'8 220lbs- unlike tweet from goodman

was a juco all american... plagues with injury at bama..

Not seeing a 6'8 220 Forward if they can't shoot 3s (23% 3 pt shooter). This is basically signing a smaller Udeze. I don't like this one.

shot 40% from 3 in juco (on 80 att).. and played the 4 at bama

he didnt shot it well (at small sample size at bama) but his game is definitely a 4 not a 5.. he pays face to the basket

CIB already noted he thought udeze might have been too small, for him to then recruit a smaller version of that would no make sense ..

with how many players you need, i dont think its a bad pick up.. bama was stacked and he found a way to get some starts on that roster..im more worried about the 2 significant injuries in 3 years than the on the court stuff

im not even sure we have room... we only have 2 ships (assuming sasser is back)..

there is all but certainity we have atleast 1 unknown commitment .. not to mention Kendric davis making a public statement that he wants to come to houston .. and there are rumors of others

Antoine Davis is a skilled player, but I don’t see the fit in Houston. He’s a volume shooter who struggles on defense at the Horizon level. That’s not really a Sampson kind of player.

You guys can likely fill that spot with a better fit.

his role at houston would be insanely different than at detroit.. sampson would never let him play like he did there.. but he is a valuable cheese piece type of player

antonie did 38% from 3 despite doing off the dribble step back, 1 footer fadeaway 3s with regularity... there is a real possibility for him to shoot 50% from 3 if you limit his shot selection

sasser was doing 45% from 3 before his injury (who also took it mostly off the dribble) ..can you imagine both on the floor together ..

sasser with either combination of kendric davis or antoine davis makes houston a scary team to defend.. obviously defense is a question mark with both, but sasser & shead are elite defenders, mark is really good defender (with offseason development might even join the 2 above)..they'll be way to mask them with the defense ..

not mention the rumored commit, that's still a rumor is a really good scorer

If Sampson wants him, then I think he’s obviously earned the trust to know what he’s doing, but having watched him in the horizon league, he seemed to me like it would be an odd fit in Houston. And because you guys have other good options, it doesn’t make much sense to me from a distance, but like I said, if Sampson thinks he is, I’ll defer to him.

(04-14-2022 06:30 PM)WhalerFan Wrote: [ -> ]So what you're saying is you'd rather get there and lose? I don't think so. This sin't about Cincinnati. This is about posts on this thread yapping at UConn for signing the ECU guy. Little bit hypocritical. AG went to Wichita State. Carlton went to Houston.
No problem there was there?

Here we expect to win. Of course it's hard and mistakes get made (KO) but there's a culture of winning in Connecticut. Every team is one or two injuries away from a 7 win season.

Somebody in Storrs saw the writing on the wall and said it's time to go. Many in this league prostituted themselves to the Big 12 a few years back only to be rebuked.

better than losing in the 1st round...also every single type of tournament advancement in uconn history was a Calhoun made team.. uconn has no major success without calhouns hand on the team.. you dont have a culture calhoun does!!! hall of famer!.. i dont get the expect to win comments Calhoun havent been there is years 07-coffee3

and wichita fans respected uconn, carlton wasnt recruited to houston to be major player but he stepped up

the newton point is that uconn fans to this day having been trashing and harrassing ecu online, called them a joke program, but now desperately recruiting ecu players to be the savior of your program...imagine if houston fans, trashing uconn as a joke basketball program for years unprovoked, and then a major uconn player goes in te portal and all hosuton fans are "we have to get him, he is the key to us being good again" you notice that is weird .. you want part of our program badly even though you been calling us a joke..

alsoyou are aware houston lost its bedt to playes for the year and made the elite 8 this year... which is why everyone has houston as the preseason #2 team?? injuries didnt get in the way of our culture 04-cheers

also no cares that you left, we hate the reason you tried to justify as why you left... you blamed the aac for sucking which was a joke..you were able to get 5stars in the aac, and despite being in the big east youve been reliant on aac recruited players, and will do so again next year with newton

As for the poster that said UConn doesn't travel well? Hmmm, I've heard the chants at Madison Square Garden. That guy is flat out wrong. Plus just looking at the ratings. The AAC final between your Cougars and Memphis got 1.32 million viewers. The NCAA women's game between UConn and UCF got 1.13 million. Just 200,000 more for your men's championship? Dude, get real.

I live in NYC and honest to god I've never seen a single person on the street with UConn apparel.

You may bring 5k out once or twice a year at MSG, but 18,000 gates? LMAO. Those days are long behind you.

I think this is a good pick up at the 4. He has a good motor, loads of experience to help our young bigs, and if he has healed from his ACL injuries enough he has the blue collar work ethic to give us solid D and enough offense to keep the opponent from double teaming so much. Also in a pinch could play a little 5.

probably has more offensive potential that probably give credit for.. he was a major scorer in juco

he played on a stacked bama team, there is only so many shots that can be take, and with quinerly, shackleford, keon ellis, JD Davison (all players expected to play in the league) 5star Bediako..
other context is a 16pt 6rbs PF from a top 100 furman (Noah Gurley) only did 6 per last yr at bama.. only 1 more point per than Rojas despite 5 more minutes per game

low stats on stacked teams doesnt always mean poor scorer.. like i noted im more worried about his reinjurieng himself with his track record than the on the court stuff..
for Wichita's recruiting prowess (which isnt that great right now), and needing so many players, this honestly isnt a bad pick up
Sean McNeil visiting UC next Thursday.
UC just got a commitment - probably Kalu Ezikpe from Old Dominion. Solid 3rd big behind Lakhin and Oguama. Upgrade over Koval/Ado given his feel for offense.

His stats match up very well against all the other forwards he was sharing PT with at Bama.
Jamille Reynolds from UCF is now in the portal.

He is a good player. ECU played ODU twice last year, and he was a problem.
