I don't understand that one. Newton could have done FAR better than UCONN. Who the hell wants to play for Dan Hurley, either? 03-puke

i read the interview he did.. he went for secured PT (at his preferred position- PG)... which he is guaranteed at UCONN...as their roster is literally imploding...there was literally zero guards on roster for uconn..

but im with you, he didn't find caution in the fact that guards with guaranteed minutes on a team that just made the tournament are all choosing to transfer .

but curious what uconn does with portal the rest of the way, becuase as of right now they do not look very good.. but have the recruiting pull to magically put together a team from the portal

The guards that transferred played a combined 46 minutes all year.

Jalen Gaffney??????????? what?

lets pretend what you said was right (its not) they were guaranteed drastically more minutes on a team that just made the tournament for next year, and still chose ot transfer...

lets not pretend that this isnt some issue here to save face for uconn... your own fanbase has noted that this is disturbing trend

Jalen Gaffney was a total bust and Hurley didn't even trust him to back up Cole for more than 6 minutes at the end of the season. Come on man. He wasn't being handed the keys and will likely end up at a mid-major. UConn has a great core of big and wings and is upgrading their backcourt. More to come.

i watched the game and that was becuase rj cole was carrying your team, not because he couldnt trust gaffney.. cole and teddy buckets were going back and forth.. no one was coming in for cole

and that gaffney talk is literally word for word the same nonsense uconn fans said about josh carlton, you know the aac all-1st team, starting center of a elite 8 houston team ("mid major", "not good" ..literally same lines)

if im honest i think carlton played a huge part in the large transfer situation... half of your transfer players like this post by our coach, about carlton betting on himself

alos there's a sorta irony and hypocrisy that happens with uconn fans .. non stop harrasing about recruiting is why you had to leave the aac, they cant recruit in the aac (which made no sense based on recruit rankings)..but every year since leaving have been extremely reliant on aac recruited players (bouknight, polley, rj cole, whaley) and for the next 2 years will be again reliant on an aac player (newton)..and all the touted players you recruited as to why the big east had to happen all transfered out

im not questioning the move, obviously with the big12 move it was the right decision. i just hate how the uconn fans justified it

Gaffney averaged 4 points this year as a junior. I think we'll survive and maybe do a little better by upgrading in the portal. Diggins played 46 minutes and Floyd 0. Also, our big man Adama Sanogo was 1st team in a 6-bid conference and we couldn't also keep Josh especially having Big East DPY Whaley using his extra year.

and carlton averaged 3pts as a senior (4th year).. and was a major core of the #7 ranked team (his 5th year)- uconn did not finish ranked....and you can hide behind conference.. but houston advanced way further than uconn in the tournament, and didnt lose to a mid major ..and you missed my point, the sentiment wasnt that Carlton was a good player that we couldnt use becuase of depth issue had to go.. but that carlton sucked and should be in a low major school..and not a loss to uconn..it even happened throughout the season..i remember when houston lost to smu, there was a popular uconn tweet that said "anyone who thought a team built around carlton is good doesnt follow basketball".. we then went on to finish top 8.. yall are saying the same things about gaffney

and your take on diggins and floyd... houston barely played pg jamal shead last year, and didnt look great in the very few minutes he played ..6 months later considered one of the best point guards in the nation.. judging on freshmen year pt is odd
like a million rumors' swirling around the houston areas right now lol

we dont have enough ships so most of these aren't going to happen, so the only time to talk about it is now..

a new one that is supposedly not davis, davis or lofton
but according to credible people on the houston sites, a major player already in the portal is already a done deal .. and that there is a super shocking mega player not in the portal, that wants to play for us and inquiring if we'd want him, that even them being in the portal would make national sports news ..
yikes..

likely their best "healthy" player returning

ECU has known about this for a couple weeks. There is some family situation that will dictate where he ends up. Would have happened even with Dooley, per sources close to the program.
insanely long list for kendric davis.. but noteable is that Houston has thrown its name in..
after the statement yesterday that he wanted Houston to be be recruiting him, but houston wasn't at that time

former 5 star

That’s a very good pick up. Congrats, mustangs. But who’s going to get him the ball?
Kowacie Reeves enters the portal. Probably will remain the P5 but he's a great, projectable athlete that UC/Houston/Memphis should make. run at.

ther are SOOO many good players in the portal. there arent enough p5 slots (with projected starting minutes) for everyone

any aac that is patient, strategic and smart with how they target can probably put together a great class but probably later

Dude, Carlton is like 25. Congrats to him for eventually getting good and graduating from UConn, but he wasn't playing over a future NBA first rounder in Sanogo (named a top 5 center in all of college basketball as only a sophomore). UConn was ranked all season and beat Villanova who absolutely took you to the woodshed.

Not disputing this particular player but in general, Coach Sampson said take news of us being interested in players in the portal with a grain of salt. We run a very tight ship and don't go after a lot of players. I've seen a LOT of players with Houston in the interested list. I'm not convinced all of them are accurate.

the bold part is delusional.... he is basically a smaller version of kofi cokburn, who isnt projected to be drafted.. a smaller less accomplished version of Oscar Tshiebwe who is projected late 2nd...
but sanogo is a 1st rounder?.. NON SENSE !!!!

Villanova took us to the woodshead????
it was a 4pt game with 40 seconds to play...woodshed??
we went 1-20 from 3 (our worst shooting outing of the season) and we still could have won

and you beat vill 1 in THREE tries... a JOKE!!!!!
houston isnt going 1-20 in all 3 games if we played them 3 times....

you have ridiculous homer view on uconn!!!!

UConn is done producing NBA players for the foreseeable future. James Bouknight is one of the biggest busts of the 2021 draft.

Tristan Newton would've been better off playing in France next season rather than UConn.

They bring embarrassingly weak crowds to MSG too
Nice to see UConn fans are still as delusional as ever.

We lost to Nova by 6 pts in a game in which we only made 1 3pt and they went a perfect 15-15 from the line. That's not really taking someone to the woodshed but if that's how you want to be, fine. I'll take our loss in the elite 8 over your embarrassing first round exit to NMSU (7pt loss btws) any day!
Damn! I didn't realize UConn struggled to even compete against teams from the WAC.
Jahmir Young updating on his situation
(2x 1st team all-cusa- basically did 19pts 5rbs 4ast the last 2 years)

list Cincinnati as one of the 4 teams he really likes.. you can tell PT and role is important, as he eliminated most of the big teams recruiting him, and flat said he eliminated uconn because they got a commit (despite newton being the only guard on roster for uconn).. then notes the ability to win will also be a major factor (thats the one thing he hasnt done)
