2018 kicker/punter Matthew Trickett tweeted about how much he enjoyed visiting the UConn game, and his Twitter lists him as a 4.5 star recruit. Perhaps these are related?
Hey, whatever we have to do to be able to brag about getting our first 5 star recruit is fine by me.

I think it has been said on here the Vann and Whyle will be. I'd also assume since Bryant plans on EE'ing he'll sign as well.
Darnell Sheilds tweeted that he will be enrolling early.

Maybe he's expecting a lot of playing time here as a punter.

I think James Smith is our guy for now. We don't have a good placekicker though - hopefully getting a stud at this position is a goal of this staff.

He's a kicker first, every punt that I've seen on his training tapes he's slow to the drop and doesn't get much turnover on his high hangtime kicks, which tends to mean he's not getting a clear foot on the ball or putting enough pendulum velocity through it. Looks to be a solid foundation that he's already building on, although I would expect nothing less from an Iggy kid. He had two 50+ yarders against Elder off ground earlier this year, had another that was right on 60 yards against Glenoak that was probably good from 65-70, and was 12-14 overall with his only misses coming from over 40 yards. He was also twice named the national kicker of the week by Kohls. Kickoffs might be a bit of an issue given that his hang time seems a little low and he doesn't seem to get a lot of distance on them. His hips are quiet through his kicks and he comes through on his laces rather than with an open foot, so he's less prone to hooks (but slices can happen). All in all, he's got some serious talent, and his swinging motion is less susceptible to the type of injury we saw with Gantz.
I haven't worked with him or seen him at any of the camps I work for football...but I do know he's a damn fine soccer player from experience (even though that's not relevant here).
And can we please quash this James Smith being a bad punter business?! He was average as far as distance goes (42 yards per punt on the season) but was Top 10 in net punting and didn't allow a return of longer than 8 yards all season. If you'd have told me before the season that we get 41 yards of net punting from a freshman this season, I would've been absolutely ecstatic. I mean, 40.95 is the 5th highest Net Punt average for a Bearcats punter since they started recording it in the 80's for Christ's sake. For comparison's sake, Sam Geraci's BEST Net Punt Average while he was here was 38.22 yards. He's not O'Donnell or Huber (which given that they're both going to be in the NFL for 10-12 years is an unfair benchmark to begin with), but the dude is extremely good at what he needs to be good at. He won't crush one 70 yards, but he won't give up a big return ever either.

Sad to see that Gantz is transferring. Wish him all the best.
this recruiting class alone is enough to get me excited about next year (yeah, I'm betting most of them play).
While making a (crappy) bowl game would have been a nice accomplishment, in the long run, the extra time focused solely on recruiting will pay dividends in the future.
All things considered, Fickell is crushing it on recruiting.

We can go a long way with OSUs table scraps. Seriously.

Right, hoping for another strong finish.
Seen his name mentioned here and I know we've all been clamoring for at least one more OL. Looks like Nick Lewis will be on campus this weekend. Found this freebie on 247 this morning.
Quote:A towering presence, who is also committed to a Pac-12 program, says he is slated to step foot on Cincinnati's campus later this week after recently scheduling an official visit.
Nick Lewis, who tips the scales at roughly 6-foot-9, 348 pounds, is a Washington State commit who strapped up the pads for Jacksonville (Fla.) Bolles.
"I have an official (visit) to Cincinnati coming up this weekend," Lewis said. "That's the only one so far."
Tagged as the 34th-ranked offensive tackle on 247Sports, Lewis is armed with additional offers from Colorado State, which he officially visited in late August, Missouri, UCF, Maryland, Minnesota and Iowa State among others.
The three-star prospect will graduate next year with no plans to early enroll.
As always, stay tuned to 247Sports for more on Lewis' recruitment.

If he's 6-foot-9, 348 pounds, and has the ability to walk and breathe, I can't see how he wouldn't be a 4 year starter here.
Sounds like Brohm is moving on to UT. Purdue has some Midwest guys in their class. Would really like to see us push for Jimmy McKenna.
here to hoping we can flip some.
