Oats has his official to OSU this weekend. If they offer he is going there. Eleven Warriors thinks he is now a take and that he will round out their class.

mc

I think we have a lot of this guy from TN on the OL roster already.

if this is it with where we are with OL recruits I'd prefer if we just went with BPA with the last two scholarships.

I’d say OL is the hardest spot to gauge in HS. Remember we started 3 walk ons last year. If the staff thinks they can develop him in a couple years then I’m for it. We need help bad.

We need help now, not down the line. We already got OL projects in this class that are 2 years away from contributing.

Agreed. Bragg fits that mold as well. Huge project. They have not really been able to address their immediate need on the OL in this class. I feel good about the way they recruited everywhere else, but I don't see any improvement with OL recruiting. This is a very surprising offer IMO.
What makes him a huge project?

Physically he looks nowhere close to contributing. I'm fine with a project or two on the OL, problem is all of our OL commits already fit that mold.
Yep. He is built more like a small forward. Weight program will help him but this is probably not a guy who who’ll likely make a 2 deep for 3 years. It’s a really odd offer in the final week before signing day.

They guys who have a half dozen FCS offers and a few sun belt offers only usually have them for a reason.

Agreed. I'd rather try and find a grad transfer type that can help right away and hope your OL recruiting improves in next year's class.

Tennessee has some interest it seems.

Man I guess 6-6 286 ain't what it used to be. I agree that just looking at his pics with Gino and the UT coach, he doesn't look like some monster with a massive upper body and arms ready to destroy at the college level. But let's be fair here, even at 6-6 286, he still looks pretty lean. Give him a year of redshirt muscle and I'm not so sure he won't be ready to compete for the 2 deep.

Realistically, there aren't many true freshman ready to play OL anyway and it looks like the grad transfer OL pickings are pretty slim too. And even though it was on a different scale, let's not forget finding that "who is he?" 25th guy was Fickell's specialty at OSU.
Any official visits happening this weekend?

Its all in the feet. I would take 6ft 3 265 that has quick feet over a 6 ft 9 300 plus.
That kid looks to be a lot of biscuits shy of what they list him at.

His HS is in the 4A division in TN. Anyone want to guess what the Ohio equivalent would be in terms of school size and talent level?

822-1,102 is the enrollment range according to the interwebs, so I would say it's probably similar to division III football in Ohio. Division III is 278-388 boys in grades 9-11. If you figure half of the Tennessee 4A numbers times .75, you'd be looking at 308-376, if that all makes sense. Plus senior classes are usually smaller, so the Tennessee numbers might be more like 320-400 in grades 9-11.
Thank you. I was guessing D3 or D4 based on the 6 divisions just didn’t know what direction it went in terms of size.
Here is an article about him being the region player of the week once this season but it was as a D Lineman.

He’s 6’5 or 6’6 depending on source...that is legit ...that photo in this link from this season is not a 265 or 285 pounder unless he has fire hydrants for lower legs.
Looks like UC got a commitment from an OL today. Might be a PWO.

I wouldn’t guess all that much.

I’d be more concerned that Urbie would try to hire someone from UCs staff like trying to bring Joker Phillips back.

This. Coombs leaving will have no effect on UC. In general, UC and OSU don't compete with one another for recruits.

Was looking at Oats profile on 247 and Coombs is his primary at OSU. Not sure what impact that'll have on his recruitment.
I've heard Oats has an OV scheduled with the Tennessee Titans this weekend.
Very pleased with the recruiting at this point. Only thing that gets me excited for this class is 4 plus stars or decent linemen. We have come a long way.
I don't even know who he was primarily there to see, but you've got to love this:
