Damn... why does it seem like every recruit we are after, we are competing with UK for.

Vince Marrow. Let me know if you see anything Ohio related on this list: https://247sports.com/Coach/Vince-Marrow...meRecruits

Read his tweet, it’s an insult to an institution of higher learning.

No doubt, it is bad, but does it move the ball forward.

What do you mean move the ball forward?

There is no value in criticizing his broken language. I have this vision of a new excited recruit looking over message boards to see the fans reaction of his commitment only to find this. Not trying to be holier than thou, because I criticize players, but it bothered me.

You guys win, I edited it out of existence. I don't want to offend anyone.

04-cheers
Edit: Nevermind.

UC backed off him from what I've heard. Plus he was like a Plan D for UK. They turned down a commitment from him back in November, but they've missed out on everyone good since so they decided to start pursuing him again.

Even with Marrow recruiting UK still can not win in the SEC east. last SEC championship 1977 and they cheated to win that year. They were put on probation shortly after.
I'm surprised Marrow hasn't been snagged up by a B1G school yet. I doubt the Buckeyes need him because they get whatever Ohio recruits they want anyways. But I could see a MSU or someone like that being interested. Or maybe a bigger SEC school like Florida who would want to get into to Ohio.

Agree, especially if Tennessee and Florida get their house in order like they should. This past year was the worst the SEC East has ever been IMO. One good team and 6 garbage teams and UK still couldn't make a move, even with weak SEC West crossovers as well in Ole Miss and Miss State. I've said it before but Stoops is not a good coach.

Michigan tried to get him a few years ago. Rumor is he accepted then changed his mind. No clue what he's staying in Lexington for.

And UK is not a place where you'll ever win. You have very little in state talent, so you're forced to go to other teams' backyards to get people year in, year out. Essentially the same reason why teams like Purdue/Indiana in the B1G, BC in the ACC, and Kansas struggle so much every year.

As far as Marrow goes...he would ONLY be brought in for recruitment, because he is about the worst coach I've ever met/spoken to. Sat with him over a two hour lunch last year and the dude knows next to nothing about the game from a technical/x's and o's standpoint. There were 5 HS coaches at a table of 6 who were running circles around him in conversation about scheming and styles of play....after the lunch broke a few of us talked about just how jarring it was that a college coach didn't understand some of the things we were talking about (blocking schemes, offensive motion packages, route combination dynamics, defensive reads, etc.).
They signed Marrow through 2020 and gave him a bump in salary. He’s in on some of SW Ohio’s best for 2019 already. The guy gets it done for them.

100% agree on Marrow from an X's and O's standpoint. He truly does come across as clueless. I remember him from his days at Springfield HS. Same thing. Somehow he's able to recruit and convince kids, but he cannot coach a lick.

To be fair, UK was in on Lewis far before he was a true target by us. As such, I don't feel any sorta way about him committing there. Also, to Marcus's point, we weren't pushing as hard for him.

It's interesting....the talent we've passed on recently. Lewis, Sampson (both OL), and a few others. Unprecedented in UC recruiting history.

That said, now we're left with not much of anything on the OL recruit front. I wonder if we have something going on behind the scenes with a yet to be identified OL recruit - or - if we're simply going to go with a 'best available talent' kid at some other position

Looks like Sanders got a composite of .8513. https://247sports.com/player/myjai-sanders-46039749 Puts him at the upper end of this class. Nice grab IMO. From the small amount of video I could find, he looks like he'll need some work but he's incredibly fast and athletic and has a good nose for the ball.

He got a bump then... yesterday his composite was only an .829. I checked 247 and we moved from the 50th class nationally to 46th with his commitment.

I actually edited my post because he got the bump while I was typing it! 02-13-banana
I'm trying to figure out where he got a bump. He's still an 83 on 247. It looks like his Rivals and ESPN rating is still the same as well. Maybe 247 just had his composite calculated wrong and corrected it.

I'm thinking it was probably the composite calcs being off. 77 on ESPN is a mid-to-upper 3* (3* players are between 70-79) so between an 84-88 on 247 and a 5.6 on Rivals equates to roughly the same (3* is 5.5-5.79), so an 85 is a fair rating. Good pick up, extremely athletic hybrid type DE. Needs to add some weight, but he has the athletic gifts to produce if he's coached well and adds 30-40.

No doubt. He's extremely athletic. Moves well in space and laterally. He's someone they could even stand up and move around. I can see why he had so many quality offers.

Looks like a couple of other players got bumps as well. Mr Bryant, and the German Giant.

But, but, but.....247 hates UC. how can this be happening?!?! 07-coffee3
