Look guys, lets drop the politics for just a moment shall we. Is anyone here simply as alarmed and disgusted as I am that confidential documents can simply walk out of the government buildings to which they are sent and turn up in a hotel suite or a damned garage? Left and right aside, this doesn't bode well for any of us! The whole nation should be homed in on the apparent lack of security, not red vs blue! And when we are talking about a VP who is now a POTUS and an ex POTUS, it's beyond ridiculous. Either these guys are extremely careless and irresponsible leaders, or the government we see isn't the government running things and these so-called classified documents are just so much disinformation. No sane society should tolerate this! How damned numbed to reality have we become?

Im not defending Biden. And I agree with the above 100%.

I also have an extra issue that Trump, on the surface, went out of his way to obstruct the retrieval of them. To a massive extent.

My point gentlemen is that Hillary, Trump, and Biden are all guilty of the same wanton offense. The focus stays on the political buzz instead of on the crimes. If you look at it all objectively it tells us the following:

1. They are rubbing our noses in our powerlessness to demand and receive justice.
2. They believe we are all dolts who can't see past the red/blue, right/left smoke screens which perpetually envelope us from the media.
3. They are two sides of the same fascist coin. And like Dante's hell we are too busy chasing the proverbial banners and hurling insults to shake ourselves free.
4. The only way they can stay in power is by dividing U.S. All of this nonsense is to keep us engaged with each other while they access more power, turn automation and AI against us, and in the name of convenience and security surveil the hell out of our daily lives.

This is corporate elitism running government and no matter how you shake it out it can be only one thing, destructive to everything we all hold dear, personal liberty. The corporate Lilliputians are tying poor Gulliver down and we are too busy fighting each other and following a false narrative with oodles of holes in it to notice. Regardless of your side, the crimes are the same. And those crimes endanger our families, our way of life, and they have filtered in under both Red and Blue and are being used against us as PAC money buys our government. What represents hours of debate here is a dispute over what the Kabuki means. Nobody is criticizing the stupid soap opera the press delivers daily. Nobody is questioning how either party is truly substantively different besides social issues which is fodder for the masses.

Fundamentally there is no distinction in the crimes and no distinction in what the parties actually do, and hasn't been since too big to fail, and quite possibly before even that. While drama is presented on the tube, these crooks are raping us all for everything we own. Just wait to you get the bill!

04-cheers You always say it better than *any of us* ever could.

JR's ability to continually spin the prose, yet maintain a consistent message is 'beyond parallel' ... it's a mixture of Ruth/Cobb/Williams at the plate + Bo Jackson in any field...

He can do whatever the hell he wants. After it is done, IT IS DONE! Besides, it seems most normal people think “classified documents” and they conjure up visions of nuclear bombs. A huge amount of these documents are nothingburgers.
The truth is we don’t know what is in these documents. Neither those Trump had or the ones Biden had. Some could be valuable to certain entities and some could be valuable only to history.

The POTUS does have the power to declassify and there is a process for that. Im not aware that was used in this case. The POTUS can't just think about it making documents unclassified and make it so. Im getting real tired of this silly argument.07-coffee3

It is not an argument. It is the truth. Get tired of the truth all you want. You will not find what you believe to be true anywhere in the constitution or codified law. All you will find is the president is the final authority.

Can *you* find your conclusion anywhere in the Constitution or codified law re: the Jedi mind power / Vulcan mid meld power to declassify by thought alone?

Please be specific in our answer.

Since I can’t prove a negative, how about you prove me wrong. Go to it counselor. I’ll not hold my breath.

let's review ---

FoSh : The POTUS can't just think about it making documents unclassified and make it so.

You : Its the truth.

You are stating it's the truth. A statement of 'it exists'. I'd like a cite to caselaw, statute, of Constitutional provision that provided a President has the power to 'declassify simply by "think[ing] about it" '. Please be specific.

I am asking you to prove your positive assertion that something exists.

I look forward to your specific answer, or a comment that you are simply pulling this out of thin air.

The problem is this was never a real thing until they wanted to ‘get’ Trump. You only have to look at Biden to understand this. He had these for 6 years with no questions asked. Obama had them and his word alone was enough for the government. I’m sure every president there has ever been took some documents. To be perfectly honest here, the silverware and China the Clintons took were probably more criminal than Trump’s papers.
Biden on the other hand is neck deep in questions of influence peddling. We don’t know if these documents were in anyway valuable to foreign countries.

But you didn't phrase completely accurately, tanq. I've clarified it for you above.

It actually depends on things like clearances to handle the documents. But, dont let generalized rhetoric get in the way of that.

I consider the "contents" of the classified documents to be irrelevant. Neither had any business with them in their possession...PERIOD. It shows a blatant disregard for national security and should be addressed..not overlooked and washed over. The amount of water carrying and excuses... in both instances by their sycophants is really disturbing. If the clowns in Congress had any balls in their pants they would work together and charge them both with crimes..up to Treason if warranted.

Exactamundo.

There is one saving grace in that the Biden team has not, to this point, been implicated in obstructing the issue.

That could absolutely change given further investigation. And that changes and it is shown that obstruction occurred as to the level of the Trump pile of dog doo, they need to be held to that further accountability as well.

If there was a 'conspiracy of silence' ---- show me objective proof of that.

If there was something where Biden evilly laughs and drums his fingers on the desktop in his office while gleefully staring at the documents, and thinking to himself 'I have evilly gotten away with this' --- again, show me some objective proof of that.

If they prosecute Biden, it will only be to justify prosecuting Trump.

They sacrifice a pawn to capture a King.
No one can argue the President can not declassify whatever he wants. It is a moot point. HE is THE ultimate classifier and declassifier. This is a Politifact from 2017 regarding this issue. Politifact from 2017 regarding Presidential declassification
Quote:since the president is ultimately the decider of what is classified and not. If his appointees disagree with his actions, "he can overrule their decisions," Turner said. "Within the Executive Branch the president is the boss."

All this is true. It does however have nothing to do with either of these cases. The President is wide latitude in declassification. That is undeniable. That however does not mean he gets to neglect the "process" of declassification. Im not aware of any document at Mara Lago that underwent that process. So..Without that process? Those documents are still classified and illegal to have in possession. Same with Biden if he chose to do Jedi mind tricks and just "think" them unclassified.

This is a Politifact from 2017 regarding this issue. Of course they were going after Trump for something Russia related. They told the story regarding documents and Presidential powers regarding declassification.

Trump had a standing order regarding the documents. He CAN wave a magic wand on the way out and say, "These documents are no longer classified. I am taking them with me". The "process" does not apply to the Head of the Executive Branch and Commander in Chief. There is no one above him to dispute the declassification. Who is going to say, Sir, you have to let us "do the process". All the President has to say is, "No you don't." And there is nothing anyone can do. He IS the Boss and what he did is up to him. That is all.
