Even in empty stadia, there will be millions wanting live college football telecasts and advertisers eager to reach those viewers.

FWIW, Ian Rapoport tweeted this out:

We might have football this season!
"The NFL tonight issued a memo laying out protocols to teams on how club facilities may reopen, including consent from local state government officials, establishment of a club infection response team, social distancing, temperature screening and other measures, per sources."

-Tom Pelissero

Also, on the local front, Kentucky Gov Beshear announced today a return to youth sports-(outdoor and low touching) on June 15.

Indiana High Schools can resume school sport activities on July 1.
All good signs. If these things progress without major error we may yet see meaningful football played this fall.

A buddy in Columbus told me to look out for what Indiana does to see what Ohio will likely model for high school athletics...so that's a good sign.
NCAA president says no fall sports unless campuses are open to all students: 'It’s really that simple'

https://www.foxnews.com/sports/ncaa-pres...rts-return

This may shut down revenue sports for the fall if even one institution fails to open it's campus.

I read it more that ones that are open can play but shutdown ones cannot.

Agreed. Emmert's comment certainly seems to imply it and the author of the article obviously sees it the same way:

Quote:“That doesn’t mean [schools have] to be up and running in the full normal model, but you’ve got to treat the health and well-being of the athletes at least as much as the regular students,” Emmert said. “So, if a school doesn’t reopen, then they’re not going to be playing sports. It’s really that simple.”

It is conceivable that leagues would play with some members not participating.

I think we are starting to see the divide between AD's vs Administrators and the divide between football is religion vs football is marketing.

I just don't think things get better soon enough to have a fall football season. Honestly wish they just do a 6 to 8 game season next spring that culminates in a 16 team tournament where all conferences get an automatic bids. Basically play everyone in your division than a conference title game and then the playoff. Let the Independents join a conference for one season.

So you want:
ARMY - CUSA or MAC
BYU - MW
Liberty - SB
NMS - MW or SB
ND - ACC
UGonn - AAC (YUK)
UMass - MAC or AAC
After watching the UFC fights yesterday, I think I can deal with the no fans aspect of sports for a year

Beginning to develop some optimism about the possibility of a football season. I would encourage all to watch Avik Roy and his plan to reintroduce the economy. He notes that the chance to die from Covid is 3 out of a million if you fall between the ages of 0-34. Outside of New York, fifty percent of the deaths have occurred in nursing home type facilities. We need to develop a policy like Sweden that protects the most vulnerable but allows for the rest to go back to work. Germany has approached the situation very similar to Sweden. They never shut down factories and they are opening for soccer today. Dr. Faacci is doing his job, but he is only focusing on infection rates. There are many unintended consequences to the lockdown.
PAC 12 is talking about an 11 game schedule that is intra-conference only. I think something like this is very likely across the country. Of course, would suck not to get to play Nebraska.

For the AAC that would be a 10 game schedule.

I guess the Indy teams would need a flash conference of:

ND
Army
Liberty
NMS
UGonn
UMass
BYU

Playing home and away each for 12 games. I would love that for ND. No ND v Stanford or USC.

Would ND want a one year full ACC membership? The ACC should tell them **** or get off the pot. If ND was forced into the ACC then the ACC would long term need another member. I can dream.

ND continues to have the ACC over the same barrel that the Irish utilized so successfully against the old Big East. Your point is well taken; a "conference only" modification puts independents in a very difficult spot. Imagine ND having to swap out games against the likes of Michigan, Stanford and USC to play UMass, Liberty and NMS. Wouldn't NBC find that special?

Sadly, I'm guessing a "special accommodation" would be made for the Irish.
Fauci testifying before congress today. Talked about multiple vaccines in clinical trials right now. Mentioned that it's possible to have a vaccine in commission by the fall (September/October) if things go well. Important to note his group at NIH is involved with one of said vaccines

Roy mentioned this morning that we probably should not put too much reliance on a vaccine. He noted that Aids has been around for 35 years and still no vaccine.

Notre Dame would love this. Tickets are already sold and TV deal already inked. Pretty much a guaranteed 12-0 and invitation to the playoffs.

There will likely play a bunch of ACC and B10 schools. Remember, those conferences have 14 members so there will be a couple of those teams left out in a scenario were everyone plays a 10-11 game intra-conference schedule.
