I've been to China many times. I love it, for what it is. The government surveillance is a but ominous, but that hasn't stripped the people of their vibrant culture. Once you get out of Beijing it is absolutely remarkable how much there is to see.

And yes, they do like to experiment with food. I tried pig intestines while there. And pig brain. But by no means did I think any less of them because of it.

You went to China for pig intestines? Just go to a soul food place and order Chitlins. Save a lot of airfare.

With your sophisticated tastes go to Norway for the Lutefish. Yum!

60,000 dead in the last month. So sad. I'm glad most people have taken this seriously. This could have been (and still could be) so much worse. We're saving hundreds of thousands if not millions of lives. And despite the incredibly vocal minority, people have really responded in a way that we should be proud of. Hopefully we continue to do so.

Yes, with initial estimates being 2.2 million it has been great to see that the efforts of Americans to come together saved lives.

It was not so great to see how absolutely clueless many of the experts were/are with their models. Sure they are extremely complicated with so many variables but don’t act like an estimated number is “The Answer” and unarguable.

A very complicated situation the world has yet to defeat and will have so much to learn from in really every aspect of life.

We are more than past the point of negative economic ramifications outweighing the impact of the virus. This IMO includes deaths directly attributed from the extreme downturn of the economy.

I still think college football is 50/50 and we really won’t have a good read until more mid/late June.

Btw, F the Chinese Regime and everything they are and stand for!

60,000 Americans dead in 30 days. And that's WITH the preventative steps we've taken. Absolutely awful.
Enough to fill up a football stadium in a country of 330 million people. But I feel we pay the piper eventually. This mitigation strategy was never about stopping the death, it was about not overwhelming the healthcare system. It worked for the most part. But as the “reopenings” begin the cases and death count will rise and this thing will linger for many many months. There are no treatments or cures beyond supportive care at this point.

If you believe the numbers, China got it right. Strict shutdown with draconian measures contained the threat of the virus in the most populous country in the world. Other countries have so far had varying levels of success. The US seems to have done a rather poor job. I think half of the people take it seriously and the other half do not. What we needed to do, our idealistic national culture could not digest and so here we are. Half measures that may or may have not been worth it.

What the...? Is that meant to be some sort of victory lap? Wake up this morning feeling superior or something?

You throw out a number and then cast anyone of a dissenting viewpoint as the stupid and ignorant... wait, I think the correct term is "deplorable"... that we're somehow responsible for it? But luckily for those knuckle draggers, we have the enlightened such as yourselves to save us all.

First of all, it is becoming commonly known that the're counting just about anyone that dies noways as a covid death.

Lets also ignore the fact that nearly the majority of the people that have really died from it were in the mismanaged, overcrowded cesspool that is NYC. i believe that's been pointed out before, but we can't have facts
get in the way of an agenda.

It's also funny to watch you guys buy the oldest sales pitch in the book, hook line and sinker.

You know, where you show the sucker your most overpriced, expensive thing for sale first and then the lesser overpriced thing that you KNOW they'll end up buying doesn't seem as expensive to them.

It was going to be 2.2 million, but through these heroic efforts it is only...

You guys must be gold on a used car lot.

That 2.2 million was never going to happen. Just like there were never 100,000 infected people in Ohio on March 12. But as long as people keep buying the BS, we can keep creating that government dependent class that don't have two nickles to rub together.

But again, we have that self righteous majority who are rooting for covid19 so that they can post condescending rants as above.

So if you want someone to blame for people dying, blame the Chinese.

If you really want to see people who don't care others, you can simply look at the holier than thou "I got mine" crowd that seems perfectly content to watch the country crumble down around them while we all hide from the boogey man.
Holy sh!t... that is next level projection.

Only you could see lamenting 60,000 lives lost as a victory lap.

Things could be better they could be a hell of a lot worse.

Keep yelling at clouds and being pissed at the world. Thankfully you're the exception not the rule.

They shot the f'en victims and burned the bodies in the early stages--you promote that?

I am and have been curious as to where's your self righteous indignation has been about cancer victims? Murder victims? Car accident victims?

Drunk driving is certainly a preventable cause of death for many. Where's your campaign against that?

You just come across as a tad bit phony when you're so vehement about the covid19 and its a$$ backwards response of quarantining healthy people at all costs, while never showing a bit of concern about anything else.

You're so busy patting yourself on back that you've never bothered to address anything that anyone else has to say other than to lead the "YER STOOPID" crowd.

Now keep waving your flag here in the land of the locked down and the home of the scared.

Agreed. I've never ONCE heard Mark definitively say that he opposes cancer, murder, car accidents, and drunk driving.

Is Mark a hypocrite? The answer is a resounding 'yes'.

For what it's worth, I would like to take this moment to state that I am VEHEMENTLY opposed to death. Thank you.

Yes, China can take draconian measures because their general population does not possess guns. I'd like to see how draconian the American government could be with AR-15s pointed back at them. We are a "free" republic and not a totalitarian society for a reason - thank the Lord.

A Japanese Military guy said "No one can invade the US because everyone has a gun". Most of us have several. 38 Police Special, Taurus Judge, Pump Action Shot Gun, 22 Rifle. Bring it on!

The moral high ground argument does not work. This semi quarantine consists of lining the battle lines with the working poor and 16 year old fast food workers to protect government workers and the elderly. If this disease as deadly as many people believe, it is not exactly the ethical way to treat the pandemic.

...and...in breaking news, which I'm certain will horrify a lot of snowflakes and pantywaists...we have NO CURE for DEATH!!!!!

Better go hide.
All these models that were presented were worst case scenario given no measures were taken to restrict movement. There were also projections of what would happen with strong lockdown policy. Those have been more accurate, but it doesn't make this any less real. Unfortunately, some of us will never take this seriously until it becomes personal and not something that only happens to people we deem expendable, like old folks and people who live in third world conditions and slums.

Keep an eye on Sweden and Iowa - they exist as controls as neither really implemented any significant mandatory lockdown measures. Both are experiencing a much higher mortality rate than their neighbors.

It is interesting to watch: Sweden has 2,679 deaths on 22,317 cases in a population of 10 million vs 66,570 deaths on 1,138,690 cases in a population of 328 million (Johns Hopkins data). Pick your metric to suit your argument. The numbers I question are the case totals. I believe those are dramatically under reported based on antibody studies and anecdotal experiences.
