Yes, with initial estimates being 2.2 million it has been great to see that the efforts of Americans to come together saved lives.

It was not so great to see how absolutely clueless many of the experts were/are with their models. Sure they are extremely complicated with so many variables but don’t act like an estimated number is “The Answer” and unarguable.

A very complicated situation the world has yet to defeat and will have so much to learn from in really every aspect of life.

We are more than past the point of negative economic ramifications outweighing the impact of the virus. This IMO includes deaths directly attributed from the extreme downturn of the economy.

I still think college football is 50/50 and we really won’t have a good read until more mid/late June.

Btw, F the Chinese Regime and everything they are and stand for!

60,000 Americans dead in 30 days. And that's WITH the preventative steps we've taken. Absolutely awful.

But as the “reopenings” begin the cases and death count will rise and this thing will linger for many many months. There are no treatments or cures beyond supportive care at this point.

If you believe the numbers, China got it right. Strict shutdown with draconian measures contained the threat of the virus in the most populous country in the world. Other countries have so far had varying levels of success. The US seems to have done a rather poor job. I think half of the people take it seriously and the other half do not. What we needed to do, our idealistic national culture could not digest and so here we are. Half measures that may or may have not been worth it.

Yes, China can take draconian measures because their general population does not possess guns. I'd like to see how draconian the American government could be with AR-15s pointed back at them. We are a "free" republic and not a totalitarian society for a reason - thank the Lord.

The moral high ground argument does not work. This semi quarantine consists of lining the battle lines with the working poor and 16 year old fast food workers to protect government workers and the elderly. If this disease as deadly as many people believe, it is not exactly the ethical way to treat the pandemic.

All these models that were presented were worst case scenario given no measures were taken to restrict movement. There were also projections of what would happen with strong lockdown policy. Those have been more accurate, but it doesn't make this any less real. Unfortunately, some of us will never take this seriously until it becomes personal and not something that only happens to people we deem expendable, like old folks and people who live in third world conditions and slums.

Keep an eye on Sweden and Iowa - they exist as controls as neither really implemented any significant mandatory lockdown measures. Both are experiencing a much higher mortality rate than their neighbors.

It is interesting to watch: Sweden has 2,679 deaths on 22,317 cases in a population of 10 million vs 66,570 deaths on 1,138,690 cases in a population of 328 million (Johns Hopkins data). Pick your metric to suit your argument. The numbers I question are the case totals. I believe those are dramatically under reported based on antibody studies and anecdotal experiences.
