Janssen again for two innings. I listened to Buster Olney on M n M this morning talking about analytics and how it's affecting the game. He's of the same mindset as me, a good manager should use both in game decisions/adjustments as well as analytics. The interesting take was the organizations are moving to strictly analytics simply because they will be able to defend moves with information.
it was an interesting take.

That's a garbage approach in baseball and in life. Make a (reasoned) decision with conviction and live with the results.

I agree with you 100%, you can use analytics to defend and make some decisions, but it doesn't account for so many real life in the moment things!
Dodgers better get that offense going or they're in trouble. Still a lot of game left though.
for as great of a series as this was, kind of an anticlimactic game 7. Houston grabbed the bull by the horns right out of the gate and never looked back
I'm getting old. Absolutely could not keep my eyes open for the game last night.
Should have started Kershaw and if you get beat so be it. I learned that lesson the hard way .
That's probably true. Also true that they shouldn't have relied so heavily on their pen. IMO, it cost them two games. I just saw a stat that Morrow and Jansen threw a combined 404 pitches in the playoffs. They ran through the Dbacks and Cubs in quick order, so rest wasn't a factor, but that doesn't seem sustainable to me.

Darvish had been completely lights out until the WS. How can you predict that a guy has the two worst starts of his career in the WS?

You can't. There's no analytics for that. 05-nono05-nono Especially, being his first WS.

They also could have started Wood, who no-hit the Astros for like 5 innings and he would have been on 3 days rest (Kershaw was on 2).

If Kershaw had that many pitches in him I think there is no doubt he starts based on the previous start by Darvish. Darvish came out of the gate throwing breaking stuff away in the zone and that tells me he was just not sure he could get them out with his fastball. But we can all second guess when the wheels come off and I do think both managers did good jobs managing their teams.
Darvish will get somebody to give him a ton of money this off season-just hoping it is not the Yankees.

Who knows how many pitches he had on 2 days. Not to mention, Kershaw was just as ineffective in his previous start. I don't think the Yankees will be in on Darvish, but they might be in on the other kid coming over from Japan, especially is Tank opts out.
I'm not really sold on Darvish deserving all that much money. He hasn't had a career that warrants a huge pay day. This year he had a good year, but aside from that he's been a bit avg in the MLB.

I know the Cubs will be after some pitching, and if they pursue him I hope it's not big time money.
Darvish will get big money and a 5-6 year deal. Knowing that the Cubs have so many free agents in '20-21, I can't imagine that they'll spend big money on an ace this winter. They'll likelroll with Lester, Hendricks and Quintana while adding someone like Alex Cobb and/or Lance Lynn. I think there's a chance Arrieta is back as well, but I just don't see Darvish in Chicago. I think either Schwarber or Happ are the headliners in a package for a starter as well.

I hope Davis is re-signed as well.
Schwarber I think would have a limited amount of trade value, only AL teams I think at this point would consider him and not that many are looking for a high strikeout guy that just got sent down to the minors. Happ might be a better trade piece but even if you put them together I don't see much of a return . Frontline starters are not being traded for guys like this. I would take Darvish over Arrieta for the same money but I heard it said he is not going to be back.
Have no clue what the Yanks will do if Tanaka opts out. Starters have to be the focus at this time-maybe,who knows.

He said he's staying.

Tank is staying. I hope we get playoff Tanaka for the rest of his contract.

CG- Yu has a career ERA below 3.5 in the AL. He will get his loot for sure! My guess is he gets 15-20 per at 4-6 years.

Scwharber still has plenty of value. He's 24 and just finished his first full year in the MLB. As a leadoff hitter, he failed, but in the second half he hit .250 and on the year he it 30 HR. He can play.
Scwharber has youth going for him and that might be his best asset as a power hitter. No team is going to give up much for him at this point in his career and I think the the Cubs would be better off keeping him as a showcase piece, hoping that he gets off to a quick start and then you can something for him if they really want to move him. I think Theo will not trade him yet because that would be admitting they missed with a high draft pick. I don't think Scwharber is special but he does have immense power-like a ton of guys in baseball these days. I see him as a one trick pony who can hit it to the moon.
I don't know what Theo will do. He did strike out a lot, but he also has a very good eye, which is why they thought he'd be okay as the lead off. He was a major reason why the Cubs won the World Series, so I don't Theo is going to feel pressure to do anything with him. I think he'll be fine, but he would be better off in the AL. That said, he isn't as bad in LF as it seems, although he's made some really unfortunate plays in the OF during the playoffs. I don't know what he'd net in return if traded, but I really think he or Happ are moved. The other theory that scares me a little is the possibility of moving Addison Russell.
