What made old school baseball better in your opinion? Dull personalities and then trying to injure the opponent when you feel slightly offended over mostly nothing?

The current style, homerun or strikeout is not that appealing. Analytics has ruined that and caused it. Players are not as invested as years ago, because money ruined that. By invested I mean, they care, but they are not nearly as connected with the community aspect as decades ago (Yes I know many are quire charitable). If these are your reasons, thats fair, but n not sure why guys showing personality and celebrating matters. It keeps the game interesting and pumps the crowd up

All the reasons you point out are valid. In terms of the old school policing, i think the attempt to injure a guy comment is a bit misguided. 99% of the time they would hit a a guy in a spot where it wouldn't do any damage at all, but it would send a message. But pitchers won't do that these days, hell most can't even stay in the game long enough to see the guy his next time up.
Kris Bryant is good at baseball.

He had himself a night at the dish! I can't help but notice how superior starting pitching is on the NL teams Vs. The AL
What a crazy crazy call. Rays got shafted. I compare this to the tuck rule, no one realized it was wrong, until it was. Wouldn’t be surprised to see that get addressed this off-season

Not surprisingly, SF- LA headed to Game 5. Really sad these two don't get to slug it out in a best of 7, clearly, the best two teams in the NL.

That brings up an interesting point, i know it's been talked about in regards to the NFL, but what do people think about re-seeding based on record once in the playoffs? Would be a bit more convoluted here because of the "play in game" whereas the NFL doesn't have that
Being a braves fan i will be pulling for the dodgers since the braves will get the 1st 2 games at home or if 7 games 4 at home.

That's also crazy considering they won 18 more games than the braves

With how unbalance MLB schedules are with divisional games, that would be a tough sell. With that said, the fact that the 2 best records came from the same division and for a while a 3rd nearly made the playoffs, is impressive, to say the least. Then again you had 4 90 game winning clubs in the AL East which is equally impressive.

To me if you get rid of divisions within the conference then you can more easily talk about re-seeding. With divisions I think it will always be a tough sell.
Who you guys got tonight? It's hard to bet against Webb........ Man i'm torn

Hate to see the Giants lose like that. Terrible call to end the game. Dodgers staff is ridiculous, umps giving them calls off the plate sucks.

I didn't make it to the end? Bad strike call to end it?

Checked swing called a swing by 1st base ump. It wasn't particularly close.

Reference to calls off the plate was more throughout the game. In particular, Bryant's AB in the 4th where the the first 5 pitches were all balls, but he found himself in a full count and then struck out. These pitches weren't that close either, and I'm not talking the pitch track tool they use, they were easy calls that the ump got wrong. If he walks there, 1st and 2nd with no one out; Urias threw a wild pitch to the next hitter, so you're looking at two in scoring position with nobody out. Ump completely changed the dynamic of the inning by being bad at his job. It's frustrating to me to see a great series impacted by bad umps.

Not a fan of either team but the calls were just terrible all game long and in favor of LA -like they need help with that staff . The Bryant at bat was so bad it makes the argument for robo ump behind the plate all by its self . Check swing to end a game like that also is beyond being a joke and is an insult to the game .
While the ending was a bad call, no arguing that really, I have never understood how the first base ump ever gets that call right, and they mostly do. Their angle plus distance is terrible to try and make that call. Umpiring is not easy, thats for sure, especially at that level with that much movement on the ball.
Here's how the DODGER'S Fansided page described the 4th:

The fourth inning, though, was a challenge for Urias — or it would’ve been if not for Doug Eddings, an extremely helpful addition behind the plate.

After a shift-beating single from Brandon Crawford, Kris Bryant stepped up to the plate. He was serene. He was patient.

He took a flagrant strike one on what should’ve been ball three, then got blatantly hosed on the 3-1 count, too. Needless to say, Bryant and the Giants did not break the scoreless tie in this particular inning.

I made it to the 5th, i feel like it was loose both ways. Webb was getting a few inches off the corners too with that slider. I went and found video of the check swing after i saw your post. Agree, that was a terrible check swing call. There has been a lot of that call in the PS, heck the Yankee-Sox WC game had three bad check swing calls in the first 5 innings. It is a shame that with two great teams, the umps had to have so much to do with the outcome.

I'm fine with a generous outside corner strike zone and there were a couple of other examples of Giant's hitters falling behind because of that generosity (Posey in the eighth). If it is consistently called, players have to adjust. That is partly why the KB at bat was so bad. Strike one was inside and strike 2 was down. Apparently Eddings is always bad though. He finished the regular season as the 6th most pitcher friendly ump in MLB.

Yeah, and when you have two great staffs like this that's a recipe for disaster for hitters. I guess my question would be how does an ump that rated that low wind up working a playoff series.
