I must say...after duping his cds for myself and dubbing my cds for him my poor little cd burner is tired 03-weeping Thats about 30 some odd discs back to back 04-jawdrop

BTW if you need some blank cds Office Depot has their off Brand ativa in 100pk for $12.99 this week. I usually don't buy off brand discs (prefer Sony, Memorex, Maxxell, TDK, ect...) but I had good luck with their store brand a long time ago so...
Just bought:
Frida Hyvonen- Until Death Comes. Fantastic, fantastic album.

And, Beirut- Lon Gisland. It's only an EP, but the song Elephant Gun makes it all worthwhile.

blah Wrote:Dinosaur Jr. - Beyond (new album with original lineup)

I liked it. J. Mascis' guitar work stands out, as it should. Sounded more like the album "Where you been", which is one of my favorites by them (him).

Here, you can listen for yourself....

Dinosaur Jr. - Beyond
Thanks. I'll give it a listen tonight.
I've been listening to the new Dino Jr for the past week. Outstanding. I have a feeling it will be up there at the end of the year for me.
how good is Dino Jr? I mean I liked their track on the Judgement Night Soundtrack and around that time a song of their own cd that had a video.

I must say that I have enjoyd Lil Jon & the Eastside Boyz.

I like Mike Jones a lot more than I thought I would...but the only thing that would make him better is to cut down on the "Mike Jones" chant in every song. I know that is his style but c'mon...its overkill.
I used to listen to this J. Mascis solo show streamed from some music site (unfortunately, I forgot the name...had all sorts of archived shows) and it was incredible. It was just him and an acoustic guitar, but he'd throw distortion on for his solos. Great stuff.

His guitar playing holds a lot of similarities to Ed Roeser of Urge Overkill.

If you liked that, you should check out the CD, "Martin & Me". It is J. Mascis playing Dinosaur Jr. songs acoustically. Good Disc.

Thanks, I'll check it out.

I've listened to the new record and it's fantastic. Almost Ready and We're Not Alone really stood out. The guitar work is great. Frack, I wish Urge Overkill would get that new record done.
Kyuss- Blues for the Red Sun. They make me want to drive through the Arizona desert in a topless Jeep.

I'm really digging Crumble, This Is All I Came to Do, and We're Not Alone.
I found some samples of Martin and Me, but none of them had anything other than singing on them. I liked it, but does he do the overdriven solo thing on this record?

His guitar work is not as tight with the acoustic guitar as it is with the electric. I mean it was cool as something different, but imagine if Eddie Van Halen were to play some of their songs on an acoustic guitar. It probably wouldn't be quite as good.

Speaking of that, did anyone catch Slash playing as "Eddie" at the HOF induction? If you didn't already think Eddie was a guitar god, this would have sealed it, as Slash (who is not a bad guitarist in his own right) sounded like an amateur trying to duplicate what Eddie could do.

The three things I like about his acoustic performances are:
1. It highlights the song structures
2. His voice blends well against it
3. How he uses distortion with the acoustic

I was listening to that BBC record that's on the same link you provided above. There're two songs that have that accoustic distortion thing going on. The last track is one of them.

As for Slash and Velvet Revolver doing VH, I've heard a few decent things about it, but most were not impressed with them.
The Eels - Live at Ancienne Belgique, Br
Ok further comments.

THree 6 Mafia... so far better than I tought it would be. I wish this cd has "Sippin on some Syrup"... I loved that song.

Gonna try to hit up the Mobb Deep tomorrow and Friday.

Well now that i have gone through all of the Mobb Deep. They are usually good for some nice beats...however their rhymes are sometimes off and on.
Patrick Wolf- Lycanthropy. Dude reminds me of this dude I traveled with in Ireland, very eccentric. His new video (on pitchfork) is very weird. Then again, so is Wolf. But he's an amazing musician, an accomplished violinist.

Wolf Parade- Apologies to Queen Mary. Got into this band (usually shy away from the "Wolf's, but apparently, by coincidence, it's becoming a theme today) via the indie supergroup Swan Lake. Really enjoying it.

Smoosh- Free to Stay. Was reading the year end review in Under the Radar, and they asked Smoosh about their year and favorite albums. Never had heard of them before. What struck me was how young they looked. Turns out their sisters ages 14 and 12!! Out of curiosity, I checked out some of their songs, and I'll be honest it's not bad. Definitely not what I expected from some preteens. A whole lot better than Be Your Own Pet. It only begs the question, how much help did they have with this album?

Is it me or does he look like the snotty Blonde kid from Harry Potter movies?
