Stealing this from a Monarch Nation post about Wood's interview on 94.1 yesterday...

He said his phone and email were blowing up with interest in the job. He will look at all applicants... Head coaches, assistants, etc. Wants a good x and o person, good fund raiser, familiar with the Hampton Roads and Mid-Atlantic recruiting areas.

The fact that fundraising is a priority makes me wonder if he will go the assistant route... considering assistants, at least upstart assistants, really don't have any record or experience of fundraising. Xs and Os and familiarity with the recruiting area point to Wojo and Rhoads. Throw the recruiting area out and Bret Reed looks good.

Looking at all 3 criteria points more toward Jeff Jones. I have a suspicion that is where he might be going given their personal history together.
Jeff Jones hasn't won an NCAA tournament game since 1995 when he took UVA to the Elite 8. He's had two NCAA appearances at American (last one in 08-09), but he hasn't exactly set the world on fire there. We can do better. If we were looking at a coach with a history, I'd like the success to be a bit more recent. Wood needs to take a chance and go younger with this hire. I'll be extremely disappointed if he doesn't.
If we hire Jeff jones I will be very disappointed. He hasn't been hired by a bigger program since he left UVA and went to American for a reason. It's not because he is in high demand.
Brett reed literally fits every single criteria there is that we need.

He plays an uptempo style, he recruited an nba lottery pick to freaking Lehigh and then took them to the tourney last year and upset Duke in the first round as a 15 seed.

Lehigh is 16-5 again this year despite their nba lottery pick being out for the season and could win the Patriot League yet again.

He's young, energetic and very knowledgable about the game of basketball (his dad was a coach and won a d3 national championship I believe).

If there is any chance at all he is interested in the job, he should really be a slam dunk. I can only dream about what he'd do at a program like ours.

The only reason he might not come is he will get a bcs job offer first.
I would not pick Jeff Jones either. I just have a hunch Wood might look that way.

I give Wood much more credit than to think Jeff Jones is very high on his list.

As far as fund raising, nothing succeeds like success. If we get a great x's & o's guy who can recruit like our facilities and support should enable him to, and he has a decent personality, the $$$ will flow into the program.
Jeff Jones does nothing for me either.

Picking someone out of the high school ranks to a head coach of a s/b top 50 D1 college is a stretch down IMO. I would bring him on a an assistant.
He's an odu guy and coached dematha at a very high level of high school ball.

He would make a fantastic addition as a big time recruiter for the program.

He could bring in a ton of top talent from the DC prep schools league.

I suggested jones a few months back for a "what if scenario".

His work with the Olympic development program for high school kids is huge!
Bring the man to odu, he has connections and he is one of us!!

I'm a bit confused. Are you suggesting we hire him as head coach or bring him on as an assistant to recruit?
A take on handicapping the selection process from david Teel:

I just do a quick copy and paste into a blank Word document and delete it when done reading it.
I just hit STOP on the page before it loads the popup.
Teel rarely speculates wildly on anything. if he's listed names there, he's got a good reason. Very well plugged in to the world of college basketball
Nobody mentioned Gattison?
I can tell you that he would love the job and I would bet big money that he shows an interest, at least privately.
I have no opinion as to whether he would be a good hire or what the chances are of being hired, but looking at the names being thrown about, his is more logical than many of the others.

I would not be a big fan of Milan Brown being hired. I would accept it, but I would not be a big fan.
By his own admission he just threw 12 blind darts, the most accurate part of that article was "I don't believe Selig even knows." I like some of his suggestions but a big factor is how much money is Selig going to have at his disposal. If it's comparable to what BT was getting paid then we will get a very good coach.

If it's considerably less then he may be forced into bringing in a retread looking to get back into the business.

There will be over 100 assistants/coaches/former coaches that will inquire about this job.

You nailed that. This move could be potentially money-saving, at a time when there are a lot of money needs building up in that operation. This is a much different proposition than a few short years ago when men's basketball was the clear-cut undisputed top priority.
Gattison has been in the NBA a long time. How many successful college coaches took a 10 year break from recruiting? I can see why he would want the job though.
