On the one hand, UCLA has a lot of good individual talent, on the other hand, I can see why we beat them. Welsh is soft as tissue paper. He doesn't play in the low post at all on offense, he got out-muscled for a free throw rebound on the other end and although he can pass and shoot well; he really has no back to the basket game at all.
He may get drafted, but I couldn't take having a center like that.

The team as a whole, rarely sets up close to get rebounds. It seems like the just sit outside the arc and wait for something to happen. Little passing, little movement, it's like Alford can't coach offense.

I think the bigger issue for UCLA is depth and turnovers. When they make shots they are very difficult. Anyway, UCLA over UK is by the best result of the non-conference season outside any Bearcat game. Not only does it give the Bearcats a quality win at UCLA it also knocks UK down a peg.

I think Lonzo Ball made them much better, but it can't be ignored they're missing people.
All those other sorry OOC opponents are really crushing the RPI.

Well that goes without saying...but the team we lost to in the tournament had a few more NBA players as well. TJ Leaf, Ike, and Bryce Alford were phenomenal talents.
Nice early Christmas present seeing UCLA beat the Cayuts. I might have to indulge in a little schadenfreude over on Rupps Rafters.

I secretly like rooting for UCLA in general especially to win more titles as long as they are not in UC's way. The blue necks hate the fact that they have 3 more titles than them.
Miami falls to New Mexico State. Another top 10 team falls.

A big that can pass and shoot is far more valuable at the next level then one that can post on the low block. He will have to improve his rebounding, but the truth is he would be better off adding three point range so that he can be a small ball 5.
UC drops a spot to 21 in the new AP poll...... X up to 6th. Four voters still have us not ranked.
Winning cures everything.

Especially in conference play. If the Bearcats continue winning, the polls will take care of themselves.
Conference play begins Wednesday when UCF visits SMU on ESP2 @ 9 PM. This will be a good preview of those two teams. Updated conference team records with (RPI) and Kenpom rankings.

Our SOS sucks big time.

Will have to win the AAC regular season and conference tournament if we want to get a four seed or better.
This team is not one of the best 16 teams around. If they get a 4 seed they earned it the old fashioned way...beating up on a bad conference slate.

Talent wise it’s a 5-7 seed. That has not changed since the opening tipoff.
Nonconference schedule was a trainwreck outside of the Cayman's (better than people on here think) and the 4 big games. Conference should offer more tests than last year with less absolutely abysmal games as well. If UC puts up another 2 loss conference season they'll be a top 4 protected seed and as high as a 2 depending on the conference tournament (this will be harder as Wichita and SMU are both really good). That said they'll be penalized for the number of sheer bad teams they played as well.

Kenpom and Sagarin are consistently the two best polls, both have UC as a top 12 team. That seems about right to me. If Cumberland can right the ship and Washington gives us the games he's given us the last couple weeks I really like where this team is heading.

So is this team supposed to be Mick's best team? And is a 5-7 seed talented team the best we as a fan base should hope for in a 10-12 year span?

Just wondering where we need to set our expectations too. I think alot of folks around here (myself included) expect more of this program, but also want to be realistic.
I think we're going to have to wait 'til February-March, to tell how good this team will be. I am curious to see where they max out at though. If Mick is to make a run, this is the year he needs to do it.

I missed the press release that this roster was the shiznet. I saw fans saying Final 4 or bust after our starting guards graduated. Which seemed odd. Set your expectations wherever you wish. Stark reality dictates that from surviving an effective death penalty after 2006, and overcoming continued economic constraints, outdated facilities and conference shakeout, this program has likely punched above its weight with all its faced in the past decade+ yet a small portion of its deluded fanbase serms to think we are UK due to the early 1960’s.

After all that this will be an 8th straight ncaa berth which I think only UNC, Gonzaga, Duke, Michigan State and Kansas can brag about. Life is too short. Enjoy the ride.

guilty (actually I think I said if we don't make the Elite 8, this year is a waste). Guess now I'll just be happy with the NCAA and if a miracle happens and we reach the S16, then great.
I sincerely doubt this team's woes are the product of Kevin Johnson and Caupain graduating... Cumberland and Evans are better than Johnson, Caupain was a decent college point guard, but we're not a Caupain away from the success some desire. I think it's an issue of consistency, both of effort and execution but also of not having an elite talent. Still, it's December. I'm not shook just yet. I still think they make a run.
