Looks like as a sophomore he was voted 12th in the area a few spots behind Quentin Grimes who's really shot up and is now the #1 recruit in the state with offers by everyone. Grimes is a 6'4 PG while Byrd is 6'0.
Also a new offer out to 2018 PG Mac McClung out of Virginia. Ton of mid major offers.
This week reported Malcolm Duvivier grad transfer from Oregon State will visit Rice. He is a muscular point guard who sat out last year but graduated. I think he got the cold shoulder when Gary Payton junior was at Corvallis remember dad is a big alum. Being courted by Akron and Georgetown but we have the fewest point guards at 1. This would be almost a must get for Pera. Out of curiosity I looked up the Rice Oregon State game. Duvivier had 17 points in 36 minutes and 5 assists. Bishop Mency scored 11 in 17 minutes one of his best games as an Owl.Would love to see Bishop have a breakout senior year since he stayed with the program. Duvivier and Ako Adams would be 2 good point guards with different styles. Let's seal the deal.
He had 17 points his sophomore year when they hosted Rice. He had 14 points his junior year when they played at Tudor. Yes, this would be a huge get. I'm very surprised Oregon State won just 5 games this past season although losing the coaches' son to an early injury was devastating to them I'm sure. Georgetown only has 9 scholarship players returning at this point (and 2 of them have a status that is in flux) so they are going to be tough to beat out for him but we'll see. Pera and his staff have proven already they're pretty solid in the recruiting area.
Another 2018 offer out to G Trey McGowan. 18 mid major offers.
Rice still has 1 more scholarship for the 2017-18 season. But since the focus seems to be shifting toward the 2018-19 recruiting season, here is a list of the outstanding 2018-19 offers (according to VerbalCommits).

I should note that while I posted relevant twitter follows for the past recruiting season, I'm not going to do that for the upcoming season (until we get close to signing periods). Our current coaches seem to be pretty active on Twitter (Kreider is extremely active, Mance is quite active, Pera is somewhat active, and Linebaugh is less active), so listing every 2018-19 player they follow (or that follows them) is impractical.

Final note before the list. Rice is currently projected to have ~3 scholarships available for the 2018-19 season (Mency graduating, Dylan Jones exhausting eligibility, AJ Lapray maybe exhausting eligibility (though I still think he might be eligible for a 6th year since he was not even on the team due to injury this past season), and the currently unfilled scholarship).

If I'm understanding correctly, the Rivals #8 national prospect/WKY commit doesn't have any major-major offers? Peculiar...

Gotcha, I was looking at 247.. I have to train myself to use VC for basketball.
Offer to 2019 Houston G Cameron Cohn. We're his first offer.
Hope to hear something soon about Oregon State grad transfer Malcolm Duvivier. Played well against Rice when we played the Beavers in back to back years. Was us, Georgetown who just signed another point guard transfer and has at least 4 point guards, Akron and Niagra. Surely we have an upper hand for those schools. The kid is smart and seems to have a good handle. If he signs we still have only Ako, him and the preferred walk on, who by the way looks pretty good but needs more weight.
If he signs Pera has done an amazing job in a very short and late recruiting push.
Rice certainly lost as many transfers as any D1 team if not the most, and 4 starters.
Doubt the NCAA will ever do anything but there are now over 550 transfers and still counting. It is definitely free agency. We can still do well if we just get kids who want to be good college players but want a degree because the NBA is such a long shot.
