I wonder where Coach Rhoades was this weekend. He had this tweet a little while ago:

Saw some great players this weekend I'd love to coach! I hope you got the GPA!

This weekend was the big AAU opening weekend, I believe, and also the beginning of the live period. Few of our 2017 targets were playing on the nike circuit.

Latest offer is for 2018 6-4 SG Trey Wertz. Only other offer is from Richmond. This also means Rhoades (or somebody on the staff) was probably at the Adidas Gauntlet in Dallas this past weekend, because that's where Wertz was playing.
Newest offer is Brion Whitley, a 2017 6-4 SG out of Florida. Rated 3* by ESPN, we are his first D1 offer.

Another offer is 2018 6-4 G Robby Carmody. Seems to be a consensus 3* with a bunch of high major offers (Louisville, Penn State, Xavier, Xavier, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh).

Also 2017 6-4 G Jarrett Culver. Offered by Texas Tech, Illinois, Texas A&M among others. He's from Lubbock so it seems like Texas Tech would be the considerable favorite.
Taking a break from watching what some would describe as baseball, somebody from the Rice staff was at the AAU game between Philly Pride and DC Premier. There are a few 3-4 star guys, but nobody who we've extended an offer to as far as I could find. We'll probably know in the coming days if/who we offered.

**Saturday edit: Rice was in to see 2018 G Cormac Ryan again.
Newest offer is 2017 PG Myles Franklin out of California. Rated 3* by 247, he's got offers from the likes of James Madison, Loyola Marymount, and Portland. He's a 6-4 lead guard which is unusual, but he's an absolute twig (listed at 6-4, 155).

Monday Edit: Newest offer is 2017 SG Greg Elliott out of Michigan. Offers from DePaul, Duquesne, Toledo, and George Mason.
Thought I'd give a little update with all the new offers (I'm not using any inside sources, just research on visits, offers, etc.):

Guys who seem gettable: 6-5 3* Walter Whyte, 6-5 3* Eddie Scott, 6-5 3* Jordan Schakel, 6-3 NR Michael Hueitt Jr., 6-4 NR Brion Whitley

Guys who don't seem likely: 6-4 NR Jarrett Culver, 6-4 4* Christian PoPoola, 6-8 4* Wyatt Wilkes, 6-2 4* Aaron Thompson, 6-7 4* Justin Smith

Possible, but not likely: 6-7 NR Savion Flagg, 6-5 2* Caleb Simmons, 6-0 NR Colbey Ross, 6-7 4* Christian David, 6-4 NR Myles Franklin

Guys I'd want: Walter Whyte, Eddie Scott, Jordan Schakel, Savion Flagg, Christian David
Thanks for the updates.

elw4796 you are like the Moondog* for men's basketball recruiting. Thanks for the breakdown!

*That is a compliment
What do you see in the guys "you want" vs the others? I assume some of it is how these new guys would fit with who we have now.

Most of the guys I want are pretty similar in style in that they're 6-5 or 6-6, and can play inside and out (with the exception of Schakel who's a shooter). I think long and versatile guys probably fit Rhoades' style best, which is why almost every offer now is to a 6-4+ guard. Plus, wings are probably the biggest need right now, considering we just brought in three big men and the stable of guards we already have.
Remember that the 2017 recruiting class currently only has 1 spot open (Drone graduating). Basketball gets 13 total scholarships (making the number baseball gets seem ridiculous, but that is another story for another day). This presumes Marcus Jackson and Koulechov use their 5th year of eligibilty for 2017-18 at Rice.

2016-17 roster:
SR: Drone
JR: Jackson (RS), Koulechov (RS), Mency
SO: Evans, Letcher-Ellis, Cashaw
FR: Lott (RS), Harrison, Adams, Martin, Meyer, Douglas
Two new offers in:

6-4 Michael Adewunmi. 2017 SG out of Texas, with offers from Boise State, Utah State, and UT Arlington among others.

6-4 Matt Turner. 2017 SG out of Connecticut, with offers from Seton Hall, Rutgers, and George Washington among others. Looks like he reclassified to 2017 and is going to take a prep year.

6-1 Eli Brooks. 2017 PG out of Pennsylvania with offers from Kansas State, La Salle, and George Mason among others.

I'd argue that a true center is the #1 priority right now (now that we have a couple power forwards coming in this year).

From what I've seen from Meyer and Douglas, they both seem like more traditional bigs who don't stray far from the basket. Austin already has college ready size (6-10, 240), and Douglas has the length, shot blocking, and rebounding ability to play center. Plus, I'm still expecting Drone to have a big impact next year. There isn't a big man in the conference that's has the body to match his, so it all comes down to whether he can find more consistency with his finishing.

Agreed. Would be great to have another guy in the 6'9" to 6'11" range after Drone departs (with only Meyer fitting that range currently). If we can have two "center" types on the roster each year, I feel like that'll give us additional versatility with our lineup, especially from a rebounding perspective.
