This is the kind of move Scott would have made, get a filler player for short term. Reminding of Scott Thompson is not a bad thing. My only complaint was that he played too much slowdown for the players he had, and Rhoades's track record says he won't do that.

+1
Like Thompson, he seems to have hired a first-rate assistant coaching staff with a lot of go-getters. The ASU transfer was a result of us hiring Pera and I would suspect that the Columbia transfer is Carlin Hartman's doing (and that he believes in the kid enough to take a chance on a player who has sat out two years for personal reasons). We also have two walk-ons listed on the roster for next year so we're starting off the season with 15 players (and the ASU redshirt) which is exciting. If either the 7-1 freshman or the redshirt freshman (Davis) can contribute meaningful minutes up front, I do think we have a chance to win more games next year than I would have thought 4-5 months ago.
The kid from North Shore has decommitted and re-opened his recruiting process. So we still have at least one scholarship available for this next recruiting year (and probably more before all is said and done I suspect).

Indeed! There were a flurry of tweets starting five days ago concerning Jarrey Foster's decision http://www.verbalcommits.com/players/jarrey-foster
Sounds like Larry Brown and staff began the push for some reason (either just decided he had what they wanted or they had some shift in their recruits). Can't blame the kid if he can get an offer from SMU. In the short term that program is poised to do some real big things.

SMU has landed 6-6 wing Jarrey Foster of North Shore High in Houston, source told ESPN.

Three 3-stars for next year's class and now a 4-star (from Virginia) as our first recruit for the 2016 incoming class. Wow! 04-bow

So excited to see how our program develops over the next few seasons!
Quite impressive
I don't think the number of 3 and 4 star recruits we have had in our history total as many as Rhoades has already secured and all before he has coached his first game. Great job by Rhoades and his staff and great job by JK to hire Rhoades. Having the VCU pedigree is playing big with potential recruits it appears.
We've had a few 3-5 star transfers (Bobby Crawford comes to mind) who probably were a bit overrated, but I don't recall many top-100 signees period outside of Morris Almond and Jason McKrieth. There were a few kids who should have been top-100 types but were overlooked because they came from smaller schools (Michael Harris a prime example there).

The top recruiting classes I can recall from the past 20-25 years were back-to-back classes from Scott Thompson. The first one had Dana Hardy and Kenneth Rourke (and some other decent players), and the second one featured Brent Scott and Marvin Moore. Rourke and Moore might have been top-100's nationally - Rourke probably was higher rated nationally but Moore was the more dynamic college player of those two.
What a great job Rhoades is doing. We just need to get out and support him. How many season tickets have been sold this year compared to last year?
yowzer, proof of why it is easier to turn around a basketball program, very impressive!
"The 6-foot-6 wing held offers from Cincinnati, Houston, Kansas State, Louisiana Tech, Nebraska and Oklahoma State."

Now we're cooking with heat!
Basketball signs its three early targets including the nephew of Terrance Cashaw. Cashaw and Evans are 2 Star Recruits while Lechter-Ellis is a 3 Star Recruit.

All three are 3 Star recruits per Rivals. I don't care how many stars they are rated, they are players. Look them up on Google and just watch. The future looks bright.

These 3, plus Egor (the transfer from ASU sitting out this year), with both Gercy and Drone returning, should make the 1016 season a very special one for Rice basketball.

Yes 1016 AD should be outstanding. Although I have serious concerns and questions as to how well Coach Rhoades full court press defense will hold up to the impending Norman invasion of 1066 AD. 04-jawdrop
