RE: Butts in seat is about 71% of announced attendance
I expect UTSA donates a lot of tickets to military personnel, which contributes to part of their discrepancy. If true, is that a bad thing? Heck no. They do play in a dome, so weather isn't as much a factor as for some of us other schools.

I guess the question is, what do you prefer?
A. Sell 30K tickets for a 35K seat stadium and only have 20K people present at game
B. Sell 21K tickets for a 35K seat stadium and have 20K people present at game

I'll go with A.

I guess it would depend on what you are selling the tickets for... a huge amount of deep discounted tickets or full value.

UTSA list $1,998,788 made off tickets sold in 2017

Western list $2,300,588 but I know for a fact around 800k of that is basketball

ODU list $3,526,444 for tickets sold and I assume over a million is basketball

I think I believe UAB for the most part. I think the picture below shows that the 45k figure from "The Return" was relatively accurate. Given that, the WSJ report is saying that only ~12k people were at the remaining 5 games? There's no way that's accurate.

The schools that apparently use those figures for NCAA reporting are very close. What incentive does any other school have to ensure a proper count? Other than internal purposes? You have a scanner malfunction or someone not trained properly then those numbers aren't accurate. For every game there will be tickets that go unused. But a lot f these numbers don't pass the eyeball test.

The eyeball test can be misleading especially when it comes to "the spread". No not the offense but the butt cheeks taking up 1.5 to 2 spots.

As for the scanners and problems with them, if there's problems....it's probably not just happening at one or two schools but all. But not in large enough numbers to make as much difference as the article shows.

Students at Western go through a turn style so are they counted as scanned? I dont know. But I do know that any picture of a crowd shot that can be blown up....

you can see gaps and spread that you dont see with just looking while at the game

According to the article ODU averaged actual attendance of just around 56% of capacity. I think a half filled stadium would be pretty obvious. Plus we had UNC at home and a couple more that were pretty close to capacity for sure. After accounting for those (even at say 80% which would clearly be low) there would have to have been 3 games where the actual attendance was 6-7K which in a 20K seat stadium would be pretty noticable. It didn't happen.

We're living in a post fact society, there's one person in particular who has played a big(ly) role in making more and more people just believe whatever fits their own narrative.

Lizard Breath is just another example...

No I do my due diligence . I don't believe **** I read these days, with bloggers, you tube, 24 news cycles, etc. I come from a family of lawyers, so that's probably where it comes from.

And lawyers never twist the facts to fit their narrative. lol

So because you met a journalist who couldn't handle being embedded years ago, everything the WSJ prints is just made up by people "chasing stories"?

Got it.

Your attempts at condescension are pretty funny.

You called 95% of journalists idiots. An entire industry.

Like I said, we all know who's responsible for this joke of a smear campaign on journalism that has lead to simple minds like yours believing that if they don't like what is being reported it must be fake. This is one of the bigger dangers this country is facing.

You're welcome to the last word, I'm sure it's very important to you.
