Excerpt:
College football has an attendance problem. Average announced attendance in football’s top division dropped for the fourth consecutive year last year, declining 7.6% in four years. But schools’ internal records show that the sport’s attendance woes go far beyond that.

The average count of tickets scanned at home games—the number of fans who actually show up—is about 71% of the attendance you see in a box score, according to data from the 2017 season collected by The Wall Street Journal. In the Mid-American Conference, with less-prominent programs like Central Michigan and Toledo, teams’ scanned attendance numbers were 45% of announced attendance.

Even the SEC is not immune. Schools like Arky and Ole Miss have less than 60% in attendance below what they announce. The list of bottom ten is mostly SB and MAC teams, but UTEP appeared at tenth worst. Rice is not listed. They could probably not get our data.
In before Western is here to assure us that, if anything, they under report their FB attendance...

WKU is definitely one of the better ones in the chart.

Western Kentucky 94,234 89,635 95.1% 6

Rice, and the F_Us did not respond to the request. UAB has an asterisk because they admit the count is inaccurate "due to operator, system or equipment error".

I've always said NT has pretty great attendance considering how awful we've been for the last decade. Hopefully we can continue winning and really increase numbers.

Thanks loki_the_bubba for the article

So going by the above chart Western was 3rd in avg attendance when actual scanned tickets. Could even be 2nd with UAB's mistakes .....

hummmmmmm
Does the report break it down by game? I would be curious to see if the % by game changes much for cases where the opponent is regional?

MT vs WKU
USM vs LaTech
USM vs UAB
FAU vs FIU
UTSA vs RICE
NT vs LaTech
Check out the Attendance Gap Leaders chart in that article. 04-jawdrop

Well this report is obviously erroneous, Western fans will gladly explain how they underreport, just wait.

You need to worry more about Middle and their 8,427 average for football games. Personally I still think that is counting a few fans 2 or 3 times.

Just in case you cant read the chart.....

Middle 54% so that means Middle is 2nd worse at actual "counting" and reporting what they counted. LOL
Wow. I don’t think anyone in CUSA can smack talk WKU about attendance ever again. WKU had the third highest actual attendance in conference. Higher than those who barked the loudest, too, like Marshall, ODU, LaTech, UTSA, etc

Can we all just LOL at MTSU and their almost 50% real attendance rate?? Wow that is embarrassing.

Just as I suspected we are one of the worst offenders since high level donors will buy the rest of the tickets 1 minute before game time for the sole purpose of having a sellout streak. I am personally not a fan of it but I could see the argument of "who cares, we got our money". But our ticket sales in particular is a poor metric to measure fan support, in my opinion.

Just funny that mtsu fans said something then got smacked down. Haha.
Basically Navy is the only school who didn't lie

It's not a lie. It's two different measures.

I suppose. "Announced attendance" should not equate to "ticket sales."
In before all the Middle fans come over here to dispute Western numbers.

Oh. They won’t. LOMFL.

Guns been trying to tell all you fools this for years. All he was met with was derision by the oh so intelligent Middle crew and many, many others dogging us out for our weak attendance.

I haven’t looked at the actual article but going by the snapshot we may not be an attendance powerhouse but at least we don’t lie about it.
I go to every home game...there is just no way that the stadium is only 60% full on average at kickoff. Don't know how the data is pulled and all that, but I would guess more like 80% on average.

If by 'lie' you mean report tickets distributed instead of 'butts in seats', then yes, you lie like everyone else.
