Well... facts are facts, and nothing Durbin said was objectionable, IMHO. He was making a strong point that these are names that never should be associated w/ the USA in any way, shape or form. And further, he wasn't comparing anybody to Hitler specifically, as you know.
But as for Obama... no, not only is he Hiter and Stalin and every other tyrant rolled into one, he's also got that spiritual side... ya know, he's the ANTI-CHRIST!

Yeah, when are "the people" no longer calling the shots? When they elected Barack Obama by a wide margin? When a majority supports pretty much every aspect of his agenda (apart from the health care plan, which is "only" at 50%).
There is a vocal minority who is trying to disrupt progress and you've deluded yourself into thinking that these folks are "the voice of the people."
Well guess what - the people spoke in November, loud and clear. Denial on your part won't change that fact.

Yeah, those were the days when the shoe was on the other foot. Guess which party all those Wallace voters support now? Hint: glance at an electoral map from any recent election.
As for Robert Byrd, he's renounced his past mistakes many many times and publicly supported Barack Obama for President even though the state of WV widely supported Hillary Clinton.

Those same people you refer to as speaking loud and clear in November are the same people who are becoming increasingly disillusioned with Obama now. There are a number of people who will vote democrat regardless of who runs just as there are people who vote republican no matter what. Elections are decided by those in the middle who don't really consider themselves one or the other. 2010 will determine how those folks feel about Obama, that's why the democrats are in a hurry to push this thru.

Time, NBC and CBS all have him above 50% on the economy – even the most recent Fox News poll has him at 50%. As for Health Care, the most recent Time has it 46 approve and 46 disapprove, but CBS shows 46 approve, 38 disapprove.
I suspect it has to do with the sample of the poll chosen, and the specific question asked.
But two points:
His overall favorability rating is at or above 60% in every poll I’ve seen. His job approval rating is above 50% in every poll I’ve seen. People support him.
As far as specific issues – keep in mind that there is a wide swath of people on the far left who believe he is not going far enough on these issues, and will respond they disapprove of his handling of those issues. That doesn’t mean they will turn against him or support GOP proposals. It’s similar to looking at congressional ratings. One reason why they are always so low is discontent from their members of their own party that they aren’t doing more to stand up to and thwart the opposition.
The American people are behind Obama and what he is trying to accomplish. If you think that folks are suddenly turning to your way of thinking, don’t be deluded. I assume you’ve seen the recent Gallup study of voter identification? The GOP is in even more trouble now than they were on election day, and the demographic trends will only continue in favor of the Democrats (I suspect this is one of the reasons why the GOP is showing such desperation to put roadblocks in Obama’s path now.)
If you’re not familiar w/ the Gallup study, here’s a link: http://voices.washingtonpost.com/thefix/...-p-24.html

"a majority supports pretty much every aspect of his agenda". Not true.
Voting for someone and then going home and just saying that you have given your complete approval for that person to do whatever they want with no questioning from you may be your idea, but as you can see from all the protests, nobody else agrees with you. Voting for someone and giving them free reign are two differant things, as you know.
And the vocal minority that gets so much praise from the media for proudly standing up and expressing themselves all across the land are, are you ready, the organized, bused in, professional protesting liberals. It is extremely hard to get the conservatives and Independants riled up enough to get them out, partly due to the pesky jobs they have.

Nobody has refuted anything Durbin has said - in fact, nobody has addressed it at all.
And I understand... usually when someone comes over to the spin room that doesn't have a far-right view point, he - at some point - will get called a troll. If that's the case, why pretend it's a political forum for all viewpoints? Why not just call it the Conservative Cafe or something snappy like that and be done with it?
Don't you all get bored being in an echo chamber all the time, with hardly any opposing viewpoints? I guess it's just a comfort thing - you like others to agree with you. It makes you feel valid.

And you stand by what you said about that caricature. OK. So now caricatures can no longer be drawn of blacks. I guess at every fair across the land we will now see signs saying, "Sorry, we can no longer do business with the black folk. We apologize for what would appear to be a racist policy, but due to the charges of racism for taking your perfectly good money and drawing your picture, we are in a no win situation and just give up."
Maybe you could just point out to the rest of us what exactly is racist in that particuly sig?

What should be more important--marginalizing opponents with some stereotypical pejorative, or distinguishing between good and bad policy for addressing real problems? I vote for the latter and I would hope that you would too.
Unfortunately, that does not seem to be the way much of our political leadership--on either side--is voting.

What has happened to it since he took office? It has plummeted. His support erodes weekly.

Now you're changing the point after being shown to be wrong. It doesn't matter why they disapprove, the fact is they do. That runs directly contrary to your assertion the majority support him and his agenda. They, in fact, don't.
Quote:The American people are behind Obama and what he is trying to accomplish.
No, they're not. If you were intelligent it would be an indicator to you that as more people learn what he wants to do his numbers drop. His numbers have done nothing but drop since he began to make clear what he wanted to do.
Quote:If you think that folks are suddenly turning to your way of thinking, don’t be deluded. I assume you’ve seen the recent Gallup study of voter identification? Yet over 40% of the electorate ID themselves as conservative. The fact is you lack the depth to grasp what polls really mean outside the number on the paper.
Look it's pointless to try and discuss this stuff with you because time and again you're proven wrong and you just ignore it and then move on to something else to be wrong about. You've constructed a nice little reality for yourself that exists outside the true reality the majority of people live in. Enjoy it.
