I live in a no excuse city when it comes to hockey. We average over 21,000 attendance per game which is the highest in hockey every year, and at one point went something like 16 years selling out every single game. We have 41 regular season home games per year, plus 5 exhibition games. The average ticket price is $90 USD, and season ticket holders have to buy tickets to the exhibition games at the full price. At one point there was a 20 year wait list for season tickets.

When we played a road playoff game in 2010, 21,000 tickets to our HOME arena were sold in an hour to watch the game on a giant screen.

South Carolina mostly sucks but still averages 80,000 per game when they go 4-8. Nashville...frigging NASHVILLE is the 3rd most expensive place to watch a game in the entire NHL and average over 17,000 per game.

Our fans have so many excuses it is ridiculous. Games aren't played on the same street they live on, and they have to drive 30 minutes or more to games, games aren't on campus, are downtown, are in the Pinch neighborhood with nothing else to do, traffic leaving the stadium/arena, games against not great opponents, no stars on the team, bad weather, church, high school football, no parking, ticket prices, the cost of concessions, the cost of food and drinks on Beale, the coach isn't good, the coach isn't nice, the conference sucks, crappy music on the PA system, don't like the Ashley Furniture commercials, too many ads during timeouts, PA system is too loud, don't like PA announcer, helmet stickers, heat, cold, rain, not wanting to spend the day/night at a game when the weather is perfect, youth soccer, the bathrooms, the scoreboard showing a couple singing Rocky Top, the sirens, poor sound quality, no chairbacks, portable chairbacks going up $5 per game in price, Tiger Lane prices going up $200, The Grizzlies, the circus, flat screen tv's...

I've never seen anything like it.

You left out had to work 12 hours in an office.

Yeah --the guy from way up north always pointing fingers/blaming others--his M.O.---when I lived away from the MEMPHIS area --years 94-99-in Augusta--years 2000-08 in Myrtle Beach---I still had season tickets and still attended many many games . WHAT'S HIS EXCUSE .

He was at a hockey game

Montreal- the die hard sports town. Fans so passionate that the Expos moved to DC

Some posters will be mad because I am being mean to you and your clown friends.

Montreal
- Hockey hotbed with 21,000 attendance at every game, every year, even if the team sucks, which it often does
- NOT a baseball hotbed

Memphis
- Alleged basketball hotbed, and fans making every single excuse under the sun

Not only do you stop going to games and not renew season tickets, you stop watching on tv every single January because (according to you) we suck and we will be lucky to make the NIT. Our games cause so much distress to your mental state of mind and digestive system, that you can't even watch them on tv. Yes, you sure are "passionate," good God. 03-lmfao01-wingedeagle 04-drinky

If you were smarter, I wouldn't have to be so "mean." Sorry for offending other posters for being such a meanie.

Not enough people want to go downtown and chance being shot or their car stolen to watch a team not in the top 30 play a tomato can.

There. I said what many wanted to but beat around the bush.

It amazes me how some posters give a pass to the dude. Are they afraid he will call them an idiot/dumb/stupid or less of a fan. Disagree with him and thats his M.O. every single time.

Being born and reared in MEMPHIS, I thought we had a clannish attitude and mentality .

It was always us against the world .

Heck we even had slogans/mantras/motto.

We had tee shirts with "MEMPHIS AGAINST THE WORLD"-"MEMPHIS AGAINST EVERYBODY".

The guy comes on here and berates/criticizes/critiques/attacks and makes fun of MEMPHIANS and mid south fans excuses for not going to games .

He suggests that we are not real fans like the people where he is from. MEMPHIS people bad but Montreal people good

Yet he admits that he has ONLY been to the forum ONCE in his entire existence . Was it (concert-nba-TIGERS) ? but just once

He comes on here and points fingers and accuses others of what he HIMSELF IS GUILTY OF. There's a word for that.

The way he attacks and insults MEMPHIANS and the people in the area --reminds me of Andy Kaufman back in the day LOL

Mediocre teams + revolving door of players = mediocre fan interest.

It really is not hard to figure out… Win at a high level and people will show up.

RE: Memphis BB Season Tickets down 25% last season.
The population in Memphis that has disposable income is incredibly small. I see the same people at Tigers games, Grizzlies games, the zoo, festivals, etc. This is why Memphis feels like a small town.

So yes, the Tigers and Grizzlies are fighting over the same (small piece) of pie. We may be a city of a million people, but we probably only have 100,000 folks or so with disposable income. It's not like that in Montreal or Nashville. This costs us with conference expansion, too. Memphis is a biggish city but a smallish market.

We also continue to charge top 25 prices (both in donations required and in ticket prices) without delivering top 25 results. This is going to catch up with us. If we try to get into a nuclear arms race with bigger programs by milking our donors for more money, we'll continue to lose donors and season ticket holders.

It's a catch-22 dilemma-- the athletic department asks for more money to "compete" but we will continue to lose fans and $ until we are competitive. The fans (rightfully) say "show me some results and we'll deliver" while the school says they need money to be able to deliver.

The NIL thing is also a huge problem. Big donors have fled the city. Money is tight with FedEx and IP. If you're a donor, would you rather spend your money philanthropically? Or would you rather fund an Emoni Bates?

The NCAA screwing us on Wiseman, and then 3 years of NCAA/IARP, screwing us on Williams, the AAC not letting us play Houston and Wichita 3 years ago, our entire offensive line decimated by injuries, Penny not knowing everything about coaching right away, losing Gainwell before the season and Coxie two games in, not practicing for an entire month because of covid; ALL legitimate reasons.

What was your response? YOU were the one calling out anyone who disagreed with you going on your usual gibberish tirade the same as you do in every post. Now you have the nerve to be insulted when I use your own argument against you?

Q: Are we the only fanbase whose fans have issues with attending football and basketball games?

YES or NO? Simple question.

I don't live there but I'm not oblivious. I know crime in Memphis has always been bad and in late April, the report was that it had risen even more in 2022. I get it.

The whole point; which everyone except the guy that wants free tickets, wants a 70,000 seat stadium so tickets can still be free, and doesn't support the program because of stickers 3 years ago; is that we have a lot of excuses.

Economy stinks. Prices are too high for a lot of fans to go. Crime is rampant. And then you throw the NIL in there and it’s one big mess.

You need that more than me lil buddy. I'm not whining about having to work 12 hours a day. 03-lmfao

Nobody’s whining. That’s what you don’t get.
And trust me, you don’t wanna compare our jobs.
